Canon EOS 60D. Its a Winner!

I LOVE Canon EOS 60D. This is my fifth EOS digital SLR, and before digital I owned Canon 35mm SLRs. All those cameras were great, but the 60D surpasses them in several really important respects. Namely, excellent image quality--usable pictures up to 6400 ISO means less reliance on flash, more natural looking photos; features like hi-res articulating LCD; Quick Mode live view; and HD video. The 60D offers exactly the right balance of size and weight. The controls are intuitive and easily accessed--the control dial is great. It has built-in wireless flash control and an infrared remote sensor for tremendous versatility.

While the 18-135mm lens isn't the best in the Canon line-up, it's perfectly suited as a walkabout lens, and that's the whole point. You can get some breathtaking pictures with it. It's wide enough to get tight shots indoors and long enough for just about everything else.

I also use Canon EF 70-300mm f4-5.6 IS USM and Canon EF-S 60mm f2.8 Macro USM. With these lenses in my kit there's not much I lack for.

The camera is the perfect size and weight, and it has weather sealing to protect it from dust and moisture.

I rarely leave home without my 60D--I feel naked without it!

Opens up so many options. THIS is where you start.

My 1st (and current) DSLR. Wow... For what you get, the 60D is often priced at a very good value. Not a full-frame and not a FF lens but pretty rich detailed, clear pictures down to the pixel. Great options for color balance. Love the way you can dial it in to fill in shadows with detail. Lots of good professional level options. Fast enough to capture facial expressions, light sensitivity let's you get away with no flash indoors with moderate light. In outdoor lighting you can capture which tooth on the bride's face still has a little film at the gum line that was missed during brushing - from 30 feet away (if you drill down). At night during the reception in dim lighting for the dance you'll need a flash or have to accept grainy pics at ISO 6400. Still about 2 stops less light sensitive than a Mk 5dII or III. Because you can focus looking at the LCD or looking through the viewfinder some people find the two styles of focusng confusing. I'm happy with the focus options, but it took awhile to learn to take full advantage of the viewfinder method and the way you can drill down almost to pixel level to check the focus using the little swing out LCD screen (very handy for tripod night shots). Has the ever-so-slight bias toward redder skin tones that some people claim they can see in Canon. Software lets you adjust color and all kinds of other things. Can tune the camera to permanently interpret images from specific lenses. 18-135 is a great all around starter lens at an affordable price. Perfect zoom range with this sensor to capture people at the table while eating out, weddings, BBQs etc. For outdoor nature shots, when you tune your photos later with the software and drill down to pixel level, you will somesee a definite color separation halo on far away objects due to chromatic aberration, a lot of which you can eliminate with the software. (Love the software). You'll also be surprised sometimes at what you pick up in outdoor pictures when you drill down later with software and get beyond what you were able to see with the naked eye. Image stabilization is very effective (and a wonder to behold) Perfect lens for this camera, though it won't work if you upgrade to a FF camera. Software is phenomenal for a freebee, with nice easy interface. It's nice to be able to capture those human moments without a flash and now people always bug me for copies of my pictures or want to know what I was able to capture whenever the invite me to their gathering. It's nice to be able to give that. I've taken some phenomenal pictures of regular people with this just sitting around a table. I was surprised how much joy this brought into my life. I'm a visual person whose studied some art and design, so maybe that's it, but after holding off for so long, I found this to be a surprisingly good investment. Cameras do a lot more nowadays. With this camera, I don't miss puttering in the darkroom or working with a premium film camera. Good cameras cost a lot more than they used to as well. This is really the camera you can start at where you get those professional options that dial in the things you care about and give you lots of tools to fix your mistakes. And this is the cheapest you'll be able to do that.

This could be your last camera, or it could make you want more. (Now I'm saving for a 5d or 6d for even MORE light sensitivity).

Great Camera for price.

The Canon 60D is a step up from the 40D and the Rebel XTi I've had before. Although the 'kit lens' is a good pick, it does lack some features of a higher quality lens. To get the full use of the 60D, by reading the manual, you'll learn how good this camera is. Many adjustments and fine tuning can turn this into a near professional camera. For cameras in it's class (not a full frame sensor), it does just fine. Shooting in RAW format gives a multitude of options to use in Light Room or Photoshop. Very pleased with it given the price. There is not all that much difference as going up to the 70D, 80D or 90D.Lire l'avis complet...

A very good all-purpose camera

My main attraction to the Canon EOS 60D was the tilting viewfinder, essential for photography in my work. But double-pushing the shutter release button, required for focusing in that mode, causes a delay that would be inconvenient for action photos. The included EF-S 18-135 mm lens works well in most situations, but I usually use an EF-S 17-85 mm lens. This camera has plenty of features, but the easy menu settings make it useful for non-professionals like me. Long battery life per-charge is a plus. This is a big improvement over my former Canon Rebel XTi.Lire l'avis complet...

Great camera, has met my expectations and works well for me.

I love this camera, it is my first DSLR and I do not think I will grow out of it for a while. The kit lens definitely has its limitations, but it is also really nice for the zoom capability. It works great for going on vacation or taking pictures around and not having to change the lens.

I take some amateur macro photography because I enjoy it. I photograph equine sports which is why I upgraded to this camera because I needed the speed and focusing abilities. I also do some portrait photography with this camera and it is great. Same camera body my wedding photographer used too.

I would recommend this camera.

Great camera for old Canon AE-1 users

I have been using low end digital cameras for almost 10 years but held off on buying one that would compete with the picture quality and features of my Canon AE-1 film camera. This one is great. I can quickly switch to manual focus or many other user overrides without plowing through a long on-screen menu. I like to use linear polarizers and the quick manual focus button makes that easy. My hands shake and the image stabilization is awesome to watch kick in as the image goes from wiggly to almost frozen instantly.

The large fold-out/up viewfinder makes it great to lift above the crowd and get pictures clear of interfering heads. It is also very bright and clear. The flash is good for normal fill and closer work and my old shoe mounted flash fit the new camera perfectly and integrated with the exposure control nicely.

I like to take pictures in low light and the shutter delay eliminates the wiggle from hitting the shutter button so lack of a cable shutter attach point is not a problem. I also bought a 60mm macro lens for close up work but it also works nicely as an all around lens and gives a very similar "feel" to the standard f 1.2 lens on the AE-1 with high speed film.

It's Very good, it's with me every time

If you just want a point and shoot camera then comparing different models by different manufacturers makes a lot of sense. After all, you’re just buying a camera - the occasional accessory is merely a bit of icing on the proverbial cake. And such cameras don’t support interchangeable lenses; a key part of SLR systems.

But if you’re thinking of buying a new camera with interchangeable lenses with the interest of serious photography - amateur or professional - then you have to think in terms of the whole system that you’re buying into.

Comparing individual camera models from different manufacturers isn’t as important as deciding if the entire system of products works for you. It’s not just the particular camera but the lenses, flash system, technological options, widespread availability and so on. Remember that once you’re locked into one system it can be fairly expensive and troublesome to switch.

Whatever you do, don’t decide on a particular system because one camera you tried has a particular feature you like, unless you really need that one feature. The one thing I would double-check, however, is if the camera you’re thinking of getting feels right to you. The subjective feel of a camera - its shape, positioning of controls, heft and size, etc, are critical in regular use and you have to be sure that the camera you choose works for you.

Awesome camera easy to use and to get great shots with heaps of features

I upgraded to the canon 60D from a 450D, all I can say its like night and day the 60D has so many more Functions ,even as something as simple as a flip-able LCD screen makes life so much easier when setting up for photos
I have been doing a lot different types of photos ,from macro shots in very high harsh light to
Using a large telescopic lens for shots of the full moon and other very low light shots
Each time I find there is a setting that suits the situation
The Menus are very easy to use and are easy to access
I have already recommended the 60D to my friends

Great For Video and does well with still! Great Price to Quality Ratio

Coming from the canon dslr line, this by far has to be my TOP PICK for a dslr for VIDEO. It has MANY Manuel controls (aperture, shutter, audio, etc.). If your interested in a camera for photos, this does the job but I much more recommend the canon 7d instead (For Photography). If you want a dslr for video like I did, this is a no brainer, BUY IT. The video quality by far passes that of a camcorders quality. DISCLAIMER: you have to "pull focus" when in video. The articulated screen helps for when you need to get those fast shots where your moving the camera a lot. For Video= BUY IT. For Pictures= CONSIDER IT (but I recommend the canon 7d). The 60d was made to appeal to the videographer!Lire l'avis complet...

Love the upgrade to this camera!!

I upgraded to this camera from my Canon Rebel XSi. I bought this item because it has more features and I can take HD movies. My husband and I travel and lots of times I am taking pictures from the back of a Harley. The 18-135mm IS Lens allows me to take most of the pictures I want without having to use another camera to take shorter distance pictures....it is very hard to change the lens on a camera when going anywhere from 10 - 70 MPH snapping pictures.

I never really learned how to use all of the features of my previous Canon but plan on changing that with this camera.
