Shutter speed and steady grip

I bounced around looking for different Canon cameras, reading reviews, and looking for a great deal. I love this camera. It is superior in so many ways to my Canon T1i. However, there are two main differences to me. First, shutter speed. This is my first semiprofessional camera and the shutter speed blew me away. I shoot a lot of sports photography and knew I was missing that one shot in the middle that I was looking for very time I took a burst of images with my T1i. Now I don’t miss as many. Second is the shutter sound. My T1i is loud this 50D is much quieter, at least to me it is. Quiet day on the golf course and a loud clack of a shutter does not make golfers happy even after the ball is gone. I love this 50D and can’t wait to see what I can do with it. It will be a fun journey.

I also want to mention the complaints about weight of the camera. It is heavier to me in my hand. However, to me, weight means a more solid camera. A better built camera with quality. Also, I started photography way back when I started with a Pentax K1000. The weight I felt always helped me steady the camera. This Canon 50D feels steady in my hand and feels like I can steady the image much easier.

Great camera for a li'l price in 2023, and still decent in resolution, very great!.

It's similar of the 40D BUT totally different performance. except the 15mp resolution, the back screen resolution is incredible, the menus is deeper a bit of the 40D, it's a very very improved camera compared with my 40D, te 50D is a completely different beast, I not gained only 5mp of resolution with the DIGIC IV instead of DIGIC III in 40D, the pictures are very clean, but the camera 50D uses the same battery (BP511) and CF card, and other things the 40D uses. I LOVE THE 50D really!.Lire l'avis complet...

Great quality camera for the beginner as well as more expert.

This is my first DSLR camera. I feel that it is an easy camera to use and adjust all the features that makes taking pictures a lot of fun. This is an older model as I believe the new one is canon eos 90D but it is also about a $1000 and I paid $150.00 for this camera and I absolutely love the quality of this camera for as old that it is. The condition of the camera is mint and the seller was fast in shipping and it is a quality product. I recommend this camera for the beginner as well as someone that is more advanced in skill set. Beyond that, I need to use this camera more and I would be able to give a better perspective about the Canon EOS 50D .Lire l'avis complet...

Fast shipping; good customer service

I bought a camera kit containing a Canon 50D camera body and 4 lenses, plus other items from CCR Camera. The camera and lenses are genuine Canon products and carry one-year warranties by Canon. Extended warranties are available at additional cost. One problems I had with the kit is that it contained too much stuff I didn't really need and which was of rather low quality or too small, such as tripods, a camera hard case, a card reader, etc., but which added to the cost of the kit. Another problem was that the Canon camera kits sold on e-Bay by this company did not give me the lens choices I really wanted. For instance, I would have preferred an 18-135 or 18-200 mm IS lens, instead of the 18-55 standard lens in the kit, but they were either not listed on e-Bay, or the difference in price between trading the standard 18-55 lens for the other lenses was too high for my budget, so I was forced to settle for the kit. In my opinion, the company ought to consider more of an a la carte approach to selling kits on e-bay. Then a customer could select a camera body (for instance a Canon 50D, or a Canon 7D body), and select the lenses he REALLY wanted (say an 18-200 mm lens together with a good wide-angle lens in the 10-55mm area (I don't know exactly what Canon has available). The extra stuff, like tripods, cases, converter lenses, etc. could possibly be provided as an optional kit. These are meant as constructive criticisms. I do think this is a great company to deal with, but even great companies sometimes overlook ways in which they could make their customers even happier...Lire l'avis complet...

One of the best used DSLR values available!

I've owned a couple of the Canon 50D's.

If you don't need video on your DSLR, the 50D is a great option. I make 8 X 10 prints all the time and love them.

In my opinion - and I've owned both - the 50D is worth the extra money vs the 40D. Same size camera, but the Digic IV processor seems to help me take better photos than the 40D's Digic III.

The 50D is especially good for newbies who may not need all the bells and whistles (and cost) of the 60D, 70D, or the new 80D.

Though the shutter is designed for 100,000 clicks or accuations, I suggest buying one that has the lowest count possible - the one I bought on Ebay had just under 13,000. Anything less than 25,000 would likely be OK.

The Canon 50D is one of the best values on Ebay!

Canon 50D is great; Zeikos attachments mostly suck....

Let me say this: the Canonn is awesome and the price is well, ok. the primary lenses are Canon and quite sharp and authentic. Currently however, Photoshop can't really give you the size you need for a 15 mB file, so my 20D is as is good in this respect.... however, the 50D is faster, much easier to use, and is amazingly quiet shutter wise.

Now the rest of the shit in this package:
-the filters are just ok. got lots of distortion with polarizer.... UV is well, UV get the cheapest you can find if it's flat....

-the 'wide angle lens' is an attachment. not a prime lens. it's great if you want cyan/yellow red/blue fringes on everything.... in other words, cheap foreign trash.

-the 'telephoto 2x extender' is even worse. never would focus on my Canon telephoto that came with the package.... never. even removing the UV filter and mounting the adapter would it focus. this is also trash.... I will keep it to start fires or burn ants with while camping....

--the tripod is ok for travel. just make sure you have a remote cable for any low timed exposures. it's not that sturdy, though it is light....

--the flash is sufficient to get beyond the built-in Canon flash. haven't used it enough to see how badly it eats batteries, but well, there's no charger for it nor rechargeable battery pack.

--the lens cleaning stuff is what you'd expect to get at any camera store.

--the camera bag, however, is quite awesome, as long as this camera is all you want to carry around and don't require a second, backup machine, or more than two primary lenses. it was the best of the "Zeikos" products....

All the stuff not manufactured by Canon is from Zeikos (google for less information than you can imagine....). They must only sell to sellers like this.

The price for the 50D and basic lens were what I was looking for. All the other stuff will allow you to do some great punk/urban stuff, but nothing you want to enlarge to a 16 x 20 image and give to your girlfriend or mother (well, unless they're blind maybe...).

Overall, the service was ok, though you will receive a call to try to up-sale you with other lenses, etc. So if you already have decent Canon lenses, strobes, etc., listen, be nice and just get a good deal on why you clicked here to begin with.

My mistake was using the 'attachments' while shooting in an area I'll never return to. You don't see the defects on the 50D's preview screen. only in Photoshop when you go to edit... don't make this mistake. Try this shit before you go. Then leave it at home. Use it to burn ants and start fires....

Buy what you need without any cheap extras !!!

Canon 50d is a perfect piece meeting highest standards of even professional cameras. I'm still wondering what for high quality SLR bodies are usually sold with kit lenses (I got one with 28-i35 IS USM). The result - you have in hands two things of completely different quality standards. When you hold a camera you feel it like a smooth extension of your hands - until first touch of a zoom ring on you lenses. After you HEAR front glass is moving forward you understand that the fairytale is over and you definitely need L series lenses to have something compatible to your body and extra price you have paid for a kit lenses is only waste of money. Lens itself works as it has to, IS and USM helps to feel good in every situation, but it’s not the thing which fits Canon 50D and what for you need 15.1 mega pixels without a sharp glass?Lire l'avis complet...

New user of a Canon 50D

I decided to shift from Nikon to Canon a few months ago. I have no regrets so far!
I moved from a Fuji S2 Pro (6mp) to this camera. So far I only have good things to say about this camera. I don't upgrade my camera equipment very often. My Nikon lenses were 10-15 years old, and were still in good shape. The S2 pro was about 6 years old. I decided that I needed to upgrade, and then flipped a coin between Nikon and Canon.
Bought my Canon 50D from a dealer on ebay-got a super price. It came with 1 year warranty plus 3 years of extended warranty, which I hope I will never need to use!
I love the 3 inch VGA display, plenty of mega pixels for making bigger prints, and the software that comes bundled with the camera is really good. The body has a solid feel to it and the camera has way more features than I will probably ever need. Some features I like are:
LIVE VIEW: Sometimes it helps to see the image on the big 3 inch display instead of the viewfinder. You can actually see whether the image is in focus or not by magnifying up to 10x before you shoot the image.
AUTO SENSOR CLEANING: This is a pretty important feature, and I think every digital SLR ought to have this.
HIGH SPEED ISO NOISE REDUCTION: If you've ever shot pictures with High ISO speeds you know how annoying the noise can be. This feature takes away a lot of the noise but at the cost of leaving images softer. You get to decide how much reduction you want, Standard, low, strong, or if you don't want the camera to do the noise reduction you can simply disable it. You can go up to ISO 12800 with this camera, though I have not really tried or ever needed to go that high. Note to self: Try some images with the highest possible ISO!
AF MICRO ADJUSTMENT: This is a great feature as far as I am concerned. It allows you to fine tune the focus for any lens or every lens you decide to apply it to. If you have a doubt that a particular lens does not always give you the same sharpness as you get manually focusing than this feature allows you to set a + or - focus adjustment to it.
PERIPHERAL ILLUMINATION CORRECTION: Ever seen a sort of vignetting effect when you use certain lenses, this feature has the ability to correct this problem and the profiles of many canon lenses is already available and you can always add more lens profiles.
CUSTOM FUNCTIONS (Cfn): Allows you to set and save 2 of your most used/preferred settings. These can be then turned on/off by turning the mode dial.
I definitely recommend this camera, and if there one thing that I don't like, it's the strap that comes with it that shouts CANON EOS 50D out at you. I don't use it and have replaced it with an optech classic super low profile strap.
I hope you enjoy your new camera as much as I am enjoying mine. Be sure to read the manual from cover to cover. I read the manual every few weeks till I feel 100% comfortable with the camera.
Cheers!
Dec-2009 Update: I bought myself a Canon 5D Mk II a few months ago. I missed having a full frame camera. So now when I want to shoot wide angle, I use the 5DII and when I want my 70-200 to be 95-300(approx), I switch over to my 50D.
As far as focus goes, I find the 50D to be better (faster) especially for moving sports stuff. I can use my 24-70 and 70-200 L series lens for both the cameras. The 50D has become a lot cheaper than when I bought it last year and that's a good thing for anyone buying this camera now. Those who can afford one could consider the Canon 7d and get HD video as well.

Great camera

I bought this camera for two purposes. For a backup wedding camera body and for my photo booth. It works great on my photobooth. It's probably more than a person needs for a photobooth but i got it for a great price and the camera was like brand new.Lire l'avis complet...
