Sharp Wildlife Lens

This is a sharp lens, especially at f/8 its sweet spot. It is considerably sharper across all levels compared to the Tamron 150-600mm. The weights are about the same. It has considerably less chromatic aberration than the Canon 75-300mm whether the cheaper stm or the USM IS version. This is great when shooting great white egrets in the sunlight. It is sharper than the old glass canon 70-200mm with an old 1x teleconverter. The autofocus is not as good as the canon 75-300mm even if you use the setting so that it does not have to use the full range. Consider fine-tuning your focus tracking and lock settings to be less sensitive when there is a busy background or with birds in flight to help avoid back or front focusing. But when it does not back or front focus or you are spot-on with manual zone focusing the results are spectacular for wildlife including hummingbirds, ospreys, cat birds, wax wings, jays, squirrels, deer, pelicans... The IS works well on all three settings 1-3. Lire l'avis complet...

Buy This Lens!!!

Purchased this lens three weeks ago to replace my Sigma 150-600. Mainly because the Sigma is only sharp from 150mm to 400mm. As well as only being sharp from f8 to f what ever. With f13 being the sharpest. Problem was, using f13 limited the shutter speed and was VERY difficult to get hand held shots under low light conditions... NOW HOWEVER- with the canon 100-400, its tack sharp at all focal lengths and ALL fstops!!! for me, I really see little difference in sharpness between using f5.6 and f9. at any focal length. Im amazed! The image stabilization is top notch!! You can get away with using a slower shutter speed, thus, a lower iso setting, for a much cleaner image, and still get sharp images taken of moving objects due to the absolutely rock steady stabilization system. Absolutely great lens!! ive posted a few images ive taken with it over the last two weeks.Lire l'avis complet...

Great size, easy to carry

This is probably one of the better zoom lenses I've used for aviation photography. It's a good compromise between size, weight and portability. The range of 100mm to 400mm will take care of a good majority of the aviation images I shoot. I've used the Series I and I would have to say that the Series II is sharper and faster. Actually, in my opinion, both lenses work well, I just like the 2nd generation better. I guess it all depends on what you shoot.

I really have come to appreciate the size the more I've used it. Especially covering an aviation assignment for several days, it is a welcome relief than carrying my larger prime lens.

I shoot sports as well and this lens has worked for a majority of my events, i.e. NASCAR, IndyCar, MLB, NCAA, etc. I have even used it for night sports. It works for some, but not on others. It all depends on the venue and how well it is (or isn't) lit.

Perfect replacement part

If this isn’t an ORM salvage part, then it is an exact copy if one. Recently I purchased a Canon 100-400mm IS USM II, but the previous owner had failed to not damage to the mount. I purchased this item as a replacement as was able to make the repair at a fraction of the cost of sending the lens to Canon to fix out of warranty. I was concerned that the mount wouldn't be a precise copy which would shift the lens’ focus range, however this mount appears to be exactly identical in every way to the originalLire l'avis complet...

Fantastic Lens

This lens came in near perfect condition. The sharpness is just amazing, even when wide open. The weight is manageable, given the size. I packed it on an 11-mile hike and photographed Mountain goats with little to no trouble. I love it.Lire l'avis complet...

It beats the Sigma 150-600mm Sport lens!!

The lens came to me packed very well, arrived on time. The lens is superior to anything I have had before. It is very fast to acquire focus, the images are tack sharp and the lens is light enough to hand hold and get great results. I think I will be happy for a long for a long time with is lens. I do want to try a Canon 1.4X III teleconverter to see if the images are as sharp as I have read. This is an outstanding lens, go for it you will never be sorry.
The blue flower was taken, hand held, standing up-right from my shoulder height. That is a close focus, in my book

Great lens!

Sharp pictures, fast focusing, and heavier than I was expecting! It cost a small handful, but I think this is a lens I’ll be able to use for years. When combined with a 1.4x tele-extender, I was even able to snap pictures of Jupiter and Saturn.Lire l'avis complet...

Great sharp lens, a bit pricey and heavy

Great image stabilization for wildlife shoots. Very sharp to the edge, with minimal aberration.
