Canon 430EX Speedlite - A Great Flash at a Great Price

The Canon 430EX Speedlite is not the latest generation electronic flash from Canon, but it works perfectly on all the latest Canon cameras. All this and you can find one for less than half the price of the latest speedlites.

This flash has an LCD display that shows you its operating range, and fully controls the camera. It also has custom functions, and offers automatic zoom to cover the lens in use, as well as bounce and swivel of the flash head.

It does everything a Canon EX flash needs to do, and you can find one at very attractive prices!

great

I love that you can move the flash around and bounce it off of walls and the ceiling. I have found that makes better photos that way. It's amazing how much better this flash makes photos, Huge difference. It's easy to use. I took about 150 photos within an hour mostly continuous shots of 6. The flash stopped working after an hour and had to recharge the batteries. I use the same type and brand batteries I have for my camera but the flash kills the batteries a lot quicker. I have an extra set of batteries for my camera but have decided it may be good to also have an extra set for the flash.
Other then that I am very happy with it.

Excellent, well made, easy to use flash.

Put batteries in it, attach it to the camera, turn it on and you are ready to go. I am not into messing with anything other than the auto modes and, for me, that meets all my requirements. You can set it to bounce flash for indirect lighting and redeye reduction, it takes care of everything for you. Not as powerful as its big brother, but for the everyday photographer, it is a good match. For those professionals out there, looks to me it has just about every manual setting you could ever desire.Lire l'avis complet...

Nice smaller full feature Canon E-TTL flash for DSLR

This is the smaller but still fully-featured flash for Canon DSLRs
• Fairly compact
• E-TTL shoe-mounted or indoor slave with optical triggering by:
- ST-E2s transmitter
- 580EX flash
- 60D or 7D camera bodies
• Silent recycle/recharge but audible pop when triggered
• Beam zoom (following lens setting)
• Tilting/rotating head for ceiling/wall bounce effects
• Nice metal shoe mount bracket with quick slide lock
• Back-lighted LCD screen displaying settings
• 4 AA batteries
• Fairly solid plastic housing
• Button/interface not as easy to use but OK

Canon quality throughout

A perfect companion for the Rebel T1i or other Canon EOS camera. Totally automatic or manual with more control than most will use. Strong flash with a high enough Guide Number for most applications. Gets groups nicely at 30'. Requires a diffuser for soft fill-ins. It is not a standard slave and requires another 430 or higher to become a slave because it has no sensor for another flash so a pop-up flash will not activate it. It uses an optical pulse from another 430 to slave it (greedy Canon). The included stand has a standard tripod fitting or will allow the Speedlight to rest on any flat surface. It is a heavy flash, weights almost a pound with 4 AA batteries.Lire l'avis complet...

Great flash and excellent build quality

I had been researching what i wanted as far as an external flash for a while. I am a photographer going through college so my funding was short and was not able to afford an external until recently. I had much experience with flashes before hand and knew what to expect as far as what quality would be.

I must admit though, after having only used 580exII speedlites i was a little hesitant as to how any other inferior flash would perform. I am proud to day that this flash is in no means inferior. It comes with a few less features such as master mode over slave flashes, a bit more angle changeability, and a some what better guide #. However... if you plan to use only 1 flash and are going not going to be 150m or more away, there really is no need to "upgrade" to the 580 series.

I have had this flash for over a week now and i must admit... having been around many people with externals that whine during recharge... i am very glad that the 430 does not whine seeing as i was so use to silence with the 580. It is fully capable of keeping up with my 50D at full 6.3fps and the recharge time between full flashes is very quick. I tried the flash in complete darkness to test the AF assist beam and it worked very well even with no light at all in the room.

I have not found anything to complain about yet but then again it has only been just over a week. I am sure that over time i would be more likely to find something with it that irks me. But then again, maybe not. I have had my 50D for over a year now and have NO complaints about it and am very glad i purchased it over the 40D predecessor.

Great Intermediate Flash Kit

The Canon Speedlite 430EX II is a great intermediate flash kit. It has a good enough output at a consistent speed when attached to the camera via hotshoe and can be used off camera as a slave flash unit. I have only used this unit as an off camera flash for more artistic control over my lighting and have not been disappointed. Lire l'avis complet...

430ex II thumbs up

wokrs great. I use the 580ex on camera and I use my 430ex II as a slave off camera. I knocked over my light stand and 430ex II the first week and it survived a pretty hard hit to the concrete. Love the new shoe mount instead of the dial screw thingy. They removed the master slave external switch but I take mine in and out of slave mode all the time by holding down the zoom button for a sec and its not a hassle. Great low cost portable flash and havent noticed a difference in power from the 580.Lire l'avis complet...

Great purchase, just what I was looking for.

I recently upgraded from my very good but 11 year old Canon XTI to a new Canon T7 , found out that Canon has no longer in place a central contact post so my non Canon brand TTL flash was not compatible . This unit mates and works perfectly with the camera . Lire l'avis complet...

Great flash, well built, easy to use

I bought this 430ex II to use for with my canon T3i for on camera and off camera flash. Worked great with shoot through umbrella as a slave. Created nice soft lighting.only small concern on camera pop-up flash and 430exII needs to have a good line of sight to ensure consistent firing in slave use. Great construction and very powerful. Used in 1/8 power in manual mode
indoors with umbrella, for nice soft lighting in taking my 3 week old nieces photos. Great flash , slightly above my budget
but well worth it.
