PLOT: Communist spies from the upper class.

Philby, Blunt, Burgess, and MacClean are four young men "recruited" by KGB handlers. Recruited at a time when the Nazis are dominating the world they all feel that
"Communism" is the best route to go. soon all have jobs at the high levels of power, Burgess BBC contacts put him ahead and Philby is soon in the MI 5....(or what was MI 5 then) and MacClean is sent to Washington in the Foreign Service.... they soon pass atomic secrets to the Russians. Tom Hollander is fun and outrageous as the Gay Spy who stops at nothing. Several become alcoholics and suffer near break downs from the incredible stress. They are soon under scrutiny when "HOMER" the Russian name for McClean is being narrowed down to 2 men. This begins in 1930s and continues to the 1960s. BASED on real life spies. All but Blunt ended up in Russia escaping his fate. This is a very well done movie and is both entertaining and fascinating how the good old boys in the upper echelons of British Class both 'covered for' and 'enabled' this spies to continue. Blunt was the Queens Art Expert and was giving a Knighthood and then was granted immunity for his cooperation but was "outted" by Margaret Thatcher PM in 1979 and lost his Knighthood. Philby fled to Russia where he died and was giving a STATE FUNERAL for his part in helping Russia.In reality once the SPY "heros" are in Russia they are often given little to do as they were not trusted.... by the KGB they worked for all those years. Great movie!

This is a great story and a very well-made movie with very appealing actors. Before the pandemic, I used to borrow this from interlibrary loan, but the DVD is no longer available. I'm thrilled to own my own copy now.Lire l'avis complet...

Boys go to Cambridge and come out in Moscow

I love this mini-series. I am so happy to have found a copy of it that is affordable. The true story is very British and very engaging.
