Fast paced and good graphics, but has some flaws.

Hello and I would first like to say that this is a highly addictive game ... I was a hard core old school Socomer and have to admit if it were set up a little more like Combined Assault it would have been A+++++++ ... this is a very good game ... it has a really fun storyline to play in the single player mode and is very good online as well ... although the multiplayer online is where I do almost all of my playing and thats where I call the flaws out ... for starters you can't pick which rooms you want in ... only the type of game mode for ex. if you play team deathmatch ... thats all you can pick and if theres a room up with a board you don't like you have to keep joining, then leaving and wait until another fills up or has an opening ... another thing I really don't like is it doesn't have the option to vote people out of a game which due to the fact that unless you have a mic/headset you can't mute other people and sometimes people will play with music blaring into their mic which comes through you're tv during the game and makes it not only hard to hear, but also distracts you from hearing when people are walking/shooting at you ... and one more annoying thing is that you can make a clan tag with your character, but thats it ... it has no lobby and to the best of my knowlwdge you can't do anything at all with the clan other than write your clan name there ... I mean ... what was the point of even making a clan name if you can't do anything with it ? Other than those things however ... the game is very fast paced and aggressive and should give almost anyone a good variety of game modes to choose from so that anyone enjoying these type games should be thoroughly entertained ... All in all I think it is a good game overall and would suggest it for the PS3 system as one to own.Lire l'avis complet...

Good campaign story line

Just got the game recently, after reading reviews that said it was one of the better games for PS3.
Have only played solo campaign at Regular skill level so far. The graphics and the story line are very good. Even on the Regular skill level the play is plenty challenging for me in some chapters. The selection of weapons and operator roles (SAS, USMC, AC-130 operator, etc.) is very good.Lire l'avis complet...

The quality of the content in the campaign is top shelf

COD 4 is available on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC, and each version holds up admirably. The differences between the two console versions feel mostly negligible. Both systems deliver good frame rates and have good, easy-to-use multiplayer setups that most closely resemble Halo 2 and 3's party system and matchmaking playlists. The PC version of the game uses a more traditional server browser to get you into games. Both systems work just fine on their respective platforms. The PC version has the ability to run in a higher resolution, if you're equipped with a PC that can handle it, but it seems to scale quite well. You can also create servers that allow up to 32 players to play at once on the PC, as opposed to a limit of 18 in the console versions, but given the size of the multiplayer maps, putting 32 players in them makes things a little too crowded. Despite listing 1080p support on the back of the box, COD 4 appears to prefer 720p on the PlayStation 3. The only way to get it to run in 1080p is to tell your PS3 that your TV doesn't support 720p or 1080i, but the difference seems minor. Either way, you'd be hard-pressed to tell it apart from its Xbox 360 counterpart. And all versions control just fine, making the decision over which version to buy totally dependent on which controller you like the most.

It's a shame that the single-player is so brief, but you should only skip out on Call of Duty 4 if you're the sort of person who doesn't appreciate great first-person shooter multiplayer. The quality of the content in the campaign is totally top-shelf, and the multiplayer is some of the best around, making this a truly superb package.

BEST GAME?

t took awhile, but Infinity Ward finally got the message that World War II is played out. With modern times and international affairs becoming more and more, shall we say, interesting in recent years, the 1940s just don't carry as much weight as they used to. Perhaps that's why Call of Duty 4 has a new subtitle, Modern Warfare. By bringing things into a fictionalized story that still seems fairly plausible, the developer has made a much heavier game. But COD 4 is more than just an updated setting. It's also an amazing multiplayer first-person shooter and a great but brief single-player campaign with the visual chops to make it a standout shooter in an era filled with seemingly dozens of standout shooters.

While the game may feel short, it covers a lot of ground.
The only real catch is that the single-player is almost shockingly short. If you've been keeping up with this style of game, you'll probably shoot your way to the credits in under five hours. While you can raise the difficulty to give yourself more of a challenge, the main thing this does is make the enemies frustratingly deadly, which sort of detracts from the fun.

While it may have a lack of single-player quantity, it makes up for most of it with its quality. The game tells its story from multiple perspectives, and you'll play as a new British SAS operative as well as a US Marine. The campaign takes you from a rainy night out at sea on a boat that's in the process of sinking to a missile silo where it's on you to save millions from an unsavory nuclear-powered death. Along the way, there are plenty of jaw-dropping moments where you'll look around the room for someone to whom you can say, "I can't believe that just happened." In a world filled with war games in which the good guys come out unscathed and the world is left at total peace, Call of Duty 4 will wake you up like a face full of ice water.

The action in the campaign is usually very straightforward. You have a compass at the bottom of your screen, and the direction of your current objective is very plainly marked. But getting from point A to point B is never as simple as running in a straight line, as you'll be conducting full-scale assaults in Middle Eastern countries by moving from house to house, taking out what seems like a never-ending stream of enemy troops along the way. You'll also get an opportunity to raid Russian farmhouses in search of terrorist leaders, disguise yourself as the enemy, and, in one sequence, don a brushlike ghillie suit and crawl through the brush as enemy troops and tanks roll right past you. It's a breathtaking moment in a campaign filled with breathtaking moments. Unfortunately, it's about half as long as the average shooter, and there are plenty of sequences where you wish there were just one or two more hills to take.

Of course, if you're looking for longevity, that's where the multiplayer comes in. Up to 18 players can get online and get into a match on one of 16 different maps. Many of the levels are taken from portions of the single-player and they offer a healthy mix of wide-open, sniper-friendly areas and tight, almost cramped spaces where grenades and shotguns are the order of the day. There are six game modes to choose from. The old standby is team deathmatch, though you can also play in a free-for-all deathmatch, which isn't as much fun as the team modes. The other modes are more objective-oriented, and a couple of those have you lugging bombs across the map to blow up enemy

Call of Duty :Modern Warfare (PS3)

read the reviews elsewhere on this and I was not sure if I was going to get it.
I think they were wrong.
I own Call of Duty 3 for the XBox 360.
Reviews said Call of Duty 4 was "More of the Same".
I don't know if it is the PS3 or the Duty 4, but this game is alot better than Duty 3 on my 360. The Smoke effects are better. The Water is amazing... Damn shot again starring at the water...
I noticed something in Resistance Fall of man that is also present in this game, Everything is alive. The Grass whisps in the wind, this makes the environment come alive.
I think Resistance does the Ambiance better, but it is nicely done here too.
Swinging the Sixaxis as if to do a Rifle Butt causes your on screen character to do a Rifle Butt... Cool...
The Driving Sequences using the Sixaxis takes a little getting used to, however you can still drive via the Analog stick as well.
Graphics are Very nice, I did not see the Frame Rate Problems spoke of by the Reviewer. The Sound is very good. I did not give the Sound a 10 though because after playing Resistance where there is more clips of audio from the AI characters, I found hearing the same thing over and over again to be very "Last Gen" of Course my "Next Gen" 360 has the same problem. I think it stems from people starting to use the Extra capacity available on the BluRay disc.

Free Online Thanks to Sony. Goodbye XBox Live. Until Microsoft gives Live for Free, I will not renew. The Microsoft Fanboys keep trying to convince me that the Xbox Live is somehow better, well... after using them both I can not see the "greatness" that constitutes $50 a year.

If you liked Call of Duty 3, You will love Call of Duty 4.
Man I could sit here all day Whiping my Sixaxis all day. Rifle Butt. Rifle Butt. Yes. Yes. Yes.
I hope they keep adding these little touches to the Future PS3 games.
It Is the BEST online Shooter Game EVER!!!

Amazing game... revolutionary

This game shatters ALL OTHER first person shooters out there. Call of Duty has reinvented itself as well as helping move the first person's genre along to a completely new level.

Call of Duty 4 IS the new revolution of gaming.

Story: 9/10
From the moment you first pop this game in you will be in for one wild roller coaster ride. The game is so in-depth, and so interesting it will keep you strapped to your seat for hours on end!! Between the diverse missions, different weapons, items, vehicles, and characters this story packs quite a punch!! The only criticism on this storyline is that its short.... very short. I beat it on one of the harder difficulties in less than three days.

Graphics: 10/10
For those who thought gears of war had the best, allow me to introduce the new king of next-gen graphics. EVERYTHING... and I mean everything is beautiful. The explosions, bullets, shock waves, grenades, characters, lighting, ground, sky, airplanes, and everything in between have never looked to so good on a console game until now. From silently stalking through the sniper mission to a high stake shootout in a tv broadcast building, this game will make you stop and admire what infinity ward has done for you. Bullets leave their mark and can now pass through walls and other obstacles. Rockets now leave realistic smoke trails and the sight of a helicopter spinning out of control is breath taking. You will find yourself so memorized by the graphics of the action and scenery that you might just have to re-start from the last checkpoint!!

Controls 10/10
The layout for the controls is the basic FPS layout... very easy to use and even customizable.

Sound 10/10
The most realistic bullets and explosions you will find next to being in a war yourself. This really feels/sounds like your at the shooting range firing off a few rounds. From the sound as you empty out your weapon, to bullets whizzing by you and taking out your comrades, this game is a master of the audio. If you plan on getting this game, GET A GOOD SURROUND SOUND SYSTEM. You will literally be blow away.

Multi-Player 10/10
Where to start with this? The multiplayer in COD4 is one (if not THE) best in a game to date. You think halo did multi player right? Well they did, but think Halo x10... It far surpasses Halo as the new benchmark for online FPS gaming.

As you earn kills, head shots, grenade kills, and other aspects your rank goes up and you earn new weapons and abilities. This unlocks rank, weapons, weapon attachments, camo, challenges, and a ton of other stuff. This leads me to my next criteria...

Weapons System 9/10
The weapons system is amazing!!! Tons of different primary weapons, sidearms, and specialties. There is a huge array of weapons from a light machine gun to a .50cal Sniper rifle. Attachments are very customizable in multilayer, although I wish the would have more available. Overall, you will not be disappointed with the weapon

Fun 10/10
Never have I had this much fun with a game. Storyline is great (although short as mentioned above) but the multilayer will keep you going for a long time!!! Great fun, great re-playability, GREAT GAME!!!

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (Playstation 3) WoW!

There was a time when the Call of Duty franchise was beginning to look a little stale. Call of Duty 3, the Treyarch-led travesty of the otherwise stellar series, took some of the steam out of the franchise, and the World War II gaming niche was overpopulated by the time the game came out. There needed to be a big change for Call of Duty to recapture gamers' interest.

Taking the established war-game formula into the modern era, COD4 not only successfully maintains the trademark frantic gameplay, but also expands on past efforts with an increase in both scale and scope. The feeling of being just a single soldier in an all-out war has never been so prominent; you'll feel engulfed by danger in nearly every mission. This is a game where you want to turn the lights down and the sound up.

The biggest changes from the modernization include a more "contemporary" presentation and some advanced weaponry. The story is now told as a single narrative, rather than a collection of campaigns viewed from different perspectives. High-tech news feeds and video briefings accompanied by grid-based overlays break down the missions, and the transition between narrative and gameplay is extremely smooth: the map-level overview zooms down directly into battle. It's a visual treat and serves as a moment's respite before you are thrust back into the unrelenting action.

The advanced weaponry provides some new gameplay elements. While your standard equipment operates more or less the same as its WWII counterparts (grunt-level fighting feels as though it's the old game with a new skin), certain missions really play up the modern setting. In one, you'll need to make a long-distance sniper shot using an extremely powerful rifle: you have to correct for wind, relative humidity, and the Coriolis effect. In another scene, you'll use the white or black-hot heat sensors of an AC130 gunship to wipe the opposition from the skies.

The single player campaign runs a moderate length (roughly 7 hours) at the normal difficulty, though hardcore players will likely return for the signature Veteran difficulty. Thankfully, there's incentive to go back and play it again, as Infinity Ward has introduced a "cog tag"-like collection mini-game, scattering 30 enemy intel laptops around the campaign. What really makes the single player compelling though is the sheer relentlessness of the gameplay: the action doesn't stop from beginning to end, and, given how different one player's decisions will be from another, there's quite a bit of variation in play experience.

Gameplay: 10/10
Sound: 10/10

Call of duty Modern Warfare

I liked the online gaming....helps you build up ya skill. I also like the fast shipment because it allowed me to be an advent COD player sooner.....my rather didn't like games.....as a matter of fact the only game he ever liked me playen was madden.....aww man I really need to get madden 09 for the ps3......yea that would make my day.......only if I had some real pads on and gettin payed no less than 300k a year.....now thats a career....the only thing that urks me about football is the whole steroid thing cause I KNOW that football players use steroids but the NFL allows certain steroids......so tell me football aint the more athletic sport that in order to survive you actually NEED to be taking steroids.....i mean come on...look at Larry Fitzgerald...he was a stick in his younger years and your telling me he can have arms like ray lewis in a couple of years???? the man is a beast....and the Arizona Cardinals needed to win that superbowl....they were automatically crowning them the new-age giants......all they had to do was play defense....what a bunch of saps.....the fact of the matter is that defense wins championships...Defense=Championship...got it? good. Now to get back to that call of duty....momdern warfare...this thing is balistic.....crazy I tell you....you wake up in the morning hearing the boom of an explosion about 12 clicks away and you hear the clatter of a grenade bounce on the cement ground too close to measure so you look for the nearest exit and run for it....this time the boom was alot louder...alomst as is if the blast were to touch on your shoulder with this stun look on your face almost as if you had seen freddy kruger himself....BOOM!!! the shatter of glass and the smell of naplam in the morning.....you swing outside your door and look up to see a newly born mushroom cloud swell into the sky.....as if the sun's closeness effected its size......darkness hits fast in the chest....the slow beats of your heart fade away as if you were disinergrating in mid-air......and silence consumes you and your soul foever more....That is modern warfare.....that is not far away...and I'd also like to delv deep into the face in which I aquire when online....the staggering blows of a mischevious bullet sifting its way through your flesh......and a flash of red surrounds you...closing into your center view....and you become numb to the scene......but this time you can be made a new no matter the circumstances and it doesn't take long....only as long as you would wish it to last.......so then the battle begins agian like the ancient collisons between old britian and the scottish.....blood everywhere...like a deleted scene from braveheart.....Mel gibaon at his most majestic time in acting......the pain only countinues as more and more bullets zooms past you like an overbearing child that seemlessly and repeatedly gets you angry....but no sweat....you raise your pinpoint bullseye to your target and pull the trigger with no hesatation....the first kill has been made....you thirst for more....a hungry carnivoris animal you have become....enraged at the slightest attempt on yo life causes your enemys to fear you.....every corner the lurk the look for the chance to take down the alpha male so the become one themselves.......nobody can take the number two headband away from you...until you find....and kill number one....he is not too far.....you smell his cowardness....you move in hoping to get away with murder.......and so it is written.Lire l'avis complet...

semms to be a good game , that like Call of duty 3

has a lot of challenges, if you like call of duty games, this is another good game. This game is a little harder game, so if you like a good challenge , the call of duty 4, is a step higher than the others that have been put out on the maket , it is price average to other games , not too high price, but affordable. I have been playing different games , this one hooked right up. EAsy set to the playstation I have set up now, good graphics. It has been a good addition to my collection, that are simular to this one. I think anyone that has tried the other call of duty games, would certainly like this one as well. It is not a real easy game but one that challenges the mind and the quickness you need to play it over and over to you reach victory on this perticular game. I think you would like this game in you collection of games for your playstation.Lire l'avis complet...
