Only good for wagering/gambling. Game play very poor.

This game is 98% a gambling game. 'A Day At The Races' mode is 100% gambling. The Career Mode, which I spent most of the time in, is 98% gambling. Almost all of the available actions revolve around making bets on horses. I find it fun in small doses, but it quickly got tedious for me--I'll tell you why, it goes with another problem I have with the game.

The actual racing is fairly fun, though extremely easy (and no graduating difficulty levels either), I'm able to win pretty much every race, therefore I soon collected a huge stash of money.

I was a multi-millionaire before I realized it, now I'm almost a billionaire. What could I possibly have to complain about that you ask? There is nothing--ABSOLUTELY NOTHING you can spend your billions on in this game. Buying a new horse will set you back $50k tops, and you're only allowed six (!) horses at a time, you can't buy more stable room or anything, so you just end up with a hugely accumulating, useless bankroll. Which brings me back to why the gambling is boring...the max bet is $5k...and you have billions to play with. It's annoying to place many multiple bets to approach the scale of money you're working with, besides what is the point, there's nothing to buy with the extra millions you make anyway.

The breeding system is plain dumb, I could overlook everything but this. It's a 'Breeder's Cup' game and the breeding function is totally, completely, utterly worthless. You get 15 studs and 15 dams to choose from at a time to breed a new foal. They're randomly generated and they're usually not accomplished in the least, unlike my OWN horses, who I don't have an option of breeding (WHY!?).

Other reasons why this game is not great:
-Graphics are mediocre, the horses are undetailed, and come in a very, very limited variety of colors.
-After just a couple hours the commentary becomes annoyingly repetitive and predictable.
-Choice of silks patterns and colors depressingly limited.
-You can't name your own horses (randomly generated names only).

What is really annoying is I see the potential here for an awesome game, but the developers must've been brain dead to fumble so badly on the idea behind this game.

I think the two player option would be the most fun, haven't tried it yet.

In case I haven't made it totally clear yet, stay away. Buy something else, heck even Horsez is probably better.Lire l'avis complet...

A Cool Horse Game

When I first saw this game I was very excited. It sounded like a very fun game! When I got it that's all I played the entire day. It's fun to get as many great horses to race. Personally I didn't care what horses I got, if I liked what they looked like & what their name was I would try & get them. The game has great graphics & even my younger sister loved to bet on the races. there were some disappointments though. There should have been more of an array of horse colors, it would have been nice to train the horses myself, & it wouldn't hurt to be able to create the stable owner(like their gender, what they look like, & so on). It would probably be even better if we could name the horses we get from breeding & it would be awesome if we could breed the horses in our stable & raise their foals & what not. This product don't fill my expectations

The product is below average, maybe poor. The graphics are some goods but the aplication and the development of the game, poor... I was waiting por something like Gallop Racer 2004, that product really is excelent, but NTRA BCWTC, dont fill the vision for purchase a new edition if do not is much better the features of the product.Lire l'avis complet...

Only game out there that captures the excitement of horse racing!

Despite the old graphics and lackluster sound, this game still captures the undeniable excitement of horse racing. Owning your own stable is really cool, not as in depth as a newer game would be but breeding your own horses is satisfying.Lire l'avis complet...

for the race fans

I really enjoyed this game. I only hope the next version has better graphics and more detail. Like actually being able watch or do the training, instead of just setting it.
