Is it Still Sci-Fi When You See it Happening?

Would you give up love and passion if it would save you from jealousy, heartache and sadness? The pain of childbirth is eliminated but so is the bond between children and their parents. Individuality is unheard of since the community is all that matters.

Aldous Huxley has written a classic of sci-fi, satire and social commentary. The future - or is it the present? - is all about de-sensitization to sex and violence, consumerism, the infinite pursuit of pleasure and mass market thinking. This is the setting of Brave New World. People are created in labs, brought up and educated in the values of the community which frowns upon individualism and originality. They are sedated into happy submission by regulated doses of Soma - think Prozac - and conditioned to be content and productive - no questions allowed.
Outside the city are the savages, people born naturally.

Scary to think that what Huxley wrote 74 years ago as a science fiction novel is already happening. Recommended for everyone - most schools has this as required reading, they should all have it as such.

Brave New World

Good book about a future society from the view of a 1930's sociologist. Where do ethics lie in corralation to the advancement of technology and efficiency. What is the cost of the greater good and how is "happiness" measured.

I got what I payed for, seller did a fine job.

I bought this book because my son needed it for his English class. This product was inexpensive (the cheapest I found, in fact) but had significant damage to the cover. The pages, however, are all intact and readable. You get what you pay for, but I would recommend buying a newer copy if you need this book.Lire l'avis complet...
