Coupled for different tones.

I play Chaotic Black Metal, but my taste if very refined, i need a guitar which coupled with its pickups its very bright and clear on its highs respecting it's lows, aswell as a pedal that can manage an immense wall of distortion without loosing clearness on the highs, i got it better with my Death Metal Analog Distortion but that's for my leading tone.. I usualy couple the MT2 before a Metal Muff with top boost and finally with the DDM pedal and get a truely original tone for a saturated and maybe harsh blackmetal style, it can go dirty, nasal, earbreaking, so as a single pedal i would use another like the Deviltail Deathtortion, Toneczar Openhaus, Railhead TUA, or Okko Dominator, but for a tone boost can be very useful, i need different sound for my other band so i use the pedal combinations. It's very versatile, i cannot say its just for metal because everyone has it's genre in his fingertips, not in the pedal tone, but it's distortion its great and i have also the Sustania Trigain Metal Zone and it's a musthave for my combinations.. yells emotion.Lire l'avis complet...

Good product, specific application.

I bought this pedal because I liked the midrange control, and wanted to mod it. These are not expensive second hand, so it is low budget fun. It is also to note that Cannibal Corpse uses these modded as a front-of-amp-booster. I also bought the Fromel mod from ebay, and changed a resistor to lower the gain(seems to tighten the distortion up). My only complaint is it is not true bypass, but depending on the setup, I'm glad a buffer is in the factory unit. This pedal compares well with other pedals once modded, very similar to alot of boutique pedals at 1/3 of the price. If a mid-boosted metal sound is what you are after, then this is a good pedal to start with. If you are DIY inclined, this is a great inexpensive project that yields excellent results. I use it for a Michael Schenker-type tone, like a parked wah sound but with some high and low end eq'ing.Lire l'avis complet...

Heavy sound, Versatile tone with great sustain!

The built in Eq drag my attention and as its a feature not had in my previous dist pedals, I gave it a go.I'm playing it mostly with my Jackson dk2 on a clean all tube amp.Big plus? The pots are very sensitive and make tons of different sounds, thick and sustainy, great deal if you 're looking for heavy, Metallica-type distortion.
I won't give it a 5/5 though cause in my ears distortion seems to have a certain "character" - best way I can describe it - it sounds a bit compressed over the top and I would prefer it a little more "plain".
Overall its a good pedal, classic Boss diehard all metal box, the best I have tied so far for heavy distortion sounds and I would definitely buy it again if it got stolen or broken.

Amazing product!!

As an amateur guitar player, this pedal has done me wonders since purchased! The multi-functioning sounds of available distortion, customized by you with a turn of the dial really sends shivers down your spine!! For such an unbeatable price you can find no where else, it truly is spectacular! Shipping was simple, unbelievably fast, and I had it at my door within a couple days of the purchase date! The money you save compared to a retail store is nothing short of a miracle, as well as including a power chord AND a fully charged 9v battery! If you're a rock-hard metal head, or just someone looking to gain a little more distortion as I had, this pedal is DEFINITELY for you, no questions asked! I love it every second I plug it in! Simply an amazing product, sold by such a wonderful company!!Lire l'avis complet...

Awesome rock/metal sound for cheap price, well worth the money!

This pedal offers a great range of distortion sound. I can get the sound of nearly any band I could ever want to.

While the sound is good, it's not a tube amp. There is no substitute for a tube amplifier. But this comes pretty close.

Only complaints: This pedal has a good amount of distortion, but if you're looking for super high gain, you might want a bit more. I've learned to compensate and simply play with better technique :P I had the tendency to get lazy with my other amplifier since the gain was so high.

The original, and still the best!!

Bought originally when first came out, still sounds brand new.. Awesome pedal if used right. All the haters say it sounds like bee's in a can aren't using the right. Use a joyo vintage overdrive pedal after it on pedal board to warm tone and distortion. Sounds better than any distortion pedal out today and I have tried most of them, mxr, evh, ect. Recommend to all my students..Lire l'avis complet...

Metal Zone + Fromel Kit and yes!

Listen, this pedal is AWFUL and terrible and sounds screechy and bad! It was great when you didn't know any better back in 1993 but now we have TONS of amazing options. Two of my all time favorite pedals are my TC Electronic Booster, Linedriver, Distortion and my Mesa Throttle Box EQ. Those are incredible pedals! My TC/E BLD was $425 and my Mesa was $300. Expensive. I bought this one in virtually brand new condition for $30 BUT what MADE this pedal one of my faves was adding the Fromel kit. OH.... EM.... GEE...!!! This pedal can make your amp sound like a Mesa Boogie Rectifier...!! It's insane BUT it'll take you 5 hours to quietly and calmly swap out all the diodes BUT WORTH IT. So no, this pedal is awful BUT if you mod it, it'll be AMAZING...!! I have the Fromel mod that I installed personally! Worth it...!!! Get this amazingly terrible pedal and get it modded...!!!! You'll LOVE it..!!Lire l'avis complet...

Good sound

Well, when i plugged it in, i thought the the thing didn't work. Turned up the gain on the pedal all the way and had the amp low. It makes a weird noise coming out of my Fender amp. But, when i bring up the guitar volume, it sounds really nice. Still new and haven't played with it too much, but for the price, it gives a nice distortion sound.Lire l'avis complet...

Not just for "Metal"!

Don't let the name fool you. I've used this through tons of amps since the 90s. Which just recently broke, hence buying this one because it is a valuable tool for my Work. Currently using with my
1963 Silvertone 1482 combo and it makes this amp sing. Also use with my 5150 block head with a boost after it. Totally killer. Can be used in effects loop as preamp distortion as well. Using you volume knob on your guitar can give you amazing tonal options for different genres. I have to admit I'm a tone chaser and a pedal hound and I can't find a distortion pedal to replace this still after 20+ years of owning it.Lire l'avis complet...

Best Pedal Ever

After my first Boss Metal Zone pedal broke, I went back to the overdrive on my Fender and Crate guitar amps, and and also tried my Boss Super Overdrive pedal again. None of them came close to the gnarly distortion that the Metal Zone provided...so I bought another! Its great to have it back, that thing is seriously the best metal pedal ever.Lire l'avis complet...
