I love this thing......

.....but it's not perfect.
I had a ball today using this thing for the first time in my band. I ended each song in wild feedback. LOL! It's really awesome for that. It was also handy for holding long notes, like in the outro solo for Come Together by the Beatles. Those long notes often die out, like on the studio version itself. But with the Feedbacker, I could step on the feedbacker as I started each long note, and it worked perfectly. Feedback knob was set at around 10 o'clock.
I also liked the treble boost feature. It helps to make your solos cut through the mix without adding a lot of volume. The boost is also great for solos. It adds sustain and is easier to use that stepping on the volume pedal each time you want to do a solo or fill.
The bad is that the feedback feature can't be held down for very long before it develops a resonate sound like a flanger has. Maybe 10 or 15 seconds. Then you have to release the pedal and start again. I was hoping I could just leave it on and get sweet feedback for long periods of time through all kinds of phrasing. Instead it develops an added resonant quality that sounds kinda lame. Like you're playing in a bathroom.
But don't let that steer you away from buying this pedal. It's good for at least 15 seconds of feedback on one note, and the feedback sounds killer. And it's adjustable, from mild to wild.
The treble booster....not really what I was hoping for. I was hoping for more of an adjustable cocked wah sound, but it's not like that at all. Instead there is a very narrow frequency range to choose from and an adjustable hump that quickly goes way too far.
I wanted the early Tony Iommi sound, but haven't really found it with this pedal. But the treble booster feature is still very cool for other things. Like I said, it cuts through the mix, adds sustain, makes feedback easier, boosts your volume, etc.
Oh ya, LOTS of boost. Way more than you need as a rock guitarist looking for a pedal to boost his volume for doing solos. I set the boost around 12 o'clock. At 3 o'clock it was way too loud.
I've been a top 40 guitarist for 40 years. You can get these pedals for pretty cheap. It's definitely a very fun pedal. But it does take some patience to adjust properly and skill to use properly. It's the first pedal in my chain, as I use it to overdrive an already crunchy overdrive.
As for modifications, I might want to change the LED light to a brighter light. In daylight it was hard for my senior eyes to see if the pedal was on or not. And unfortunately, every time I wanted the feedback, it automatically goes into boost mode and stays there unless you turn it off again. Not really a big deal, but I think Boss screwed up there if you ask me.
My 2001 American Standard Stratocaster with whammy bar was just fun as could be with that feedback feature. I got a lot of Jimi Hendrix sounds with the feedbacker on and my whammy bar getting a workout. The feedback does follow the note! So it really does sound and operate like an amp that's just naturally feeding back. It's nothing like a Looper. You just can't hold it down while doing a long solo. Like I said, if you do that, it gets this flange style resonate sound, which isn't terrible, but it no longer sounds natural. It ends up sounding like you're playing in a bathroom or something.
Buy it! It really is the most fun you'll ever have with any pedal. It's not perfect, but it's a total gas if you love Hendrix style feedback.
Lastly, the feedback NEVER fails. Even on low and clean notes, if you step on that pedal, you ..... you are going to get feedback. So many times I figured I didn't have the volume to get feedback, but it always came through, and sounded very natural. It's very usable for any time you want some great sounding feedback. You just can't leave it on for very long or you end up with that bathroom reverb sound.
Peace!

limited application, but cool

This pedal has a very limited application, but I love what it does right. If you cannot crank your amp up and get natural feedback and that "on the edge" sustain, this will do it for you at lower volumes, which is great for home recording when you want that feel. It can be used to unnaturally sustain and add chaos as well. The distortion voicing is harsh across the spectrum, but it could be used to add a layer that complements other parts. Very pleased.Lire l'avis complet...

Just Got Lucky On This One - NOS

Unbelievable! I was watching other used versions of this for more $$. Was lucky to get one of these NOS. Great price, from a trusted seller I had bought other items before -- it was BRAND NEW, never opened, original packaging. An awesome adjustable range boost for those guitars that just need a little more dB to cut through. And it creates a natural feedback that is awesome for a little grunge. Lire l'avis complet...

Greatest guitar pedal idea in decades.

As a guitarist for 50 years, this pedal is one of the most innovative products I've ever seen (and heard)in a long long time.
A must for any rock guitar player that has close neighbors
because you don't have to crank up your amp to get feedback.
It reacts just like an amplifier would....And more...You can get feedback on a clean guitar setting, way longer sustain than a compressor will deliver. I looked at some reviews on You Tube that said it didn't work well with "chords", but I found that it does work well with chords as well as multiple string harmonics. There is one thing that should be known about any booster pedal though... Going into a guitar rack mount processor (ie. Rocktron VooDu Valve, Digitech GPS 2101, which I use), or units that contain a lot of various sounds,
is that it will boost the clean to semi-dirty sounds, but will not boost a distorted sound, but it does feedback & sustain on any of them. This unit would need to be placed AFTER a distortion pedal for a distorted boost. My rack mount units have stereo outputs (left & right)so to have this after the processor, I would need 2 FB-2's, & have to use both feet to work them. Wish Boss had one with left & right ins & outs for this purpose. But I knew this stuff before I bought the pedal, and I am very pleased with the FB-2.
The "character knob" also provides a boost and some really nice tones, or flat sound if needed. I tested the flat setting with the unit on & off, and could hear no difference in sound, so yes, it is truly flat.
The owners manual says that it will not work with headphones,
but I found that it works just fine with them.
I highly recommend this pedal. Feedback at any volume & sustain forever....Who wound'nt want that capability ?
Thank you BOSS.

Good For Leads & Really Neat For Feedback

I use my FB-2 to kick from rhythm voume to lead volume. It provides a mid-range boost which helps the lead to stand out in a band format. In the past to kick in leads, I previously used a Boss EQ pedal (a darn good pedal), which provided this quite similar mid-range boost & added volume.

The FB-2's advantage over an EQ pedal is that, during a lead, you can hold a single note for a measure or two while pressing the FB-2 again to get that neat, wondrful, but controllable feedback. Cool, indeed. An EQ pedal won't give that neat & controllable feedback. The FB-2 does.

I got my FB-2 for a most moderate $45 delivered from the nice people at altomusic. Contact those nice people & get yourself an FB-2. You will be pleased.

An excellent buy if you want feedback, not stellar as a boost

This is a monster of a pedal does does exactly what it says it does in one respect and has so far fallen a little flat in the other.

I bought the FB-2 for the feedback feature, which performs better than expected. Whoever designed this circuitry or software is to be commended. Sweet ringing echoes on notes played quickly that morph into singing feedback on held notes. And it's feedback that responds with heavenly wavering to the flutter of the Bigsby. If controllable feedback is something you've been wanting to add to your arsenal (and you should!), this is your baby.

Okay, enough gushing.

The boost feature, on the other hand, seems to have too many filters going, with no way to turn them off. I have been experimenting with settings for two days now, trying to find a nice clean boost of my guitar's (Loar LH-309 with a Lollar Gold Foil pickup) original tone. All settings (even "flat") seem to choke out the highs and lows.

When combined with the feedback capabilities, this is less noticeable. And I will admit I am not an expert on the FB-2's settings, I just have a lot of experience, and my experience has not paid off (yet).

Since feedback is why I got the FB-2 in the first place, I can still say that I am happy with it. In this respect, it is a great pedal.

play better, faster, become more handsome and be adoured by women!

This pedal was bought mainly as a clean boost, which it does well at slight levels. I also was intrigued by the novelty of the feedback option.
pro: feedback option works very well though it ends rather quickly when disengaged. clean boost also works well at low tweaks.

con: the boost stays engaged after the feedback option has been used. not a show-stopper though. the pedal usually stays on.

LOVE FEEDBACK

Can finally get decent feedback at ANY volume now. Hendrix here I come!! There is a slight delay in coming back from the feedback which is why it gets 4 out of 5 stars but if you know what you want and when, you will get around that with NO problems.Lire l'avis complet...

boost with extras

You will not be disappointed if you buy this for the boost function. It is more versatile than most with its' eq functions. The feed backer part was a bit disappointing as it doesn't match my amp feed back.Lire l'avis complet...
