A super book, well-written with elegance & perception seldom seen today

A super book, well-written, I felt as if I were there every minute. I can no longer run (bone spurs in 1 hip) & I MISS IT! But every Indigenous Turtle Island Nation is "my people" and his telling of the Raramuri's attitude toward outlanders, running, and their world view in general is elegant. The author has an epiphany at every turn - rare in Caucasians, rarer in those who adhere to the majority culture's ways. Thank you, Christopher McDougall, I salute you.Lire l'avis complet...

Interesting reading for any runner, Not very specific or actionable.

This book is packed with food for thought that is very interesting for any runner. Full of biology, history, anthropology, sports medicine and sports reporting on distance running that you won't get from many mainstream sources.

The author is used to writing magazine articles, and several of the chapters read like stand alone articles with only loose tie-in to the material around it. The book is also short on actionable specifics to the runner who is asking the same question as the author, "why does my foot hurt." The book has no footnotes or bibliography, and is short on citations for a book that makes many bold claims (80% of all runners are injured in any given year, etc.).

It is a great read, just don't expect to find the "born to run injury prevention training plan" in the last chapter.

gift

I'm really rating a different book by this author (Born to Win) which I thought I had ordered. If this is half as good, it's a great book.

INTERESTING. LEARNED A LOT. HAD ME FROM PAGE 1.

100 miles footraces through the mountains. Odd, but athletically gifted, men and women. Why we survived the Neanderthals. The goings-on at the bottom of Mexico's Copper Canyon. The origin of science? Misguided podiatrists.

I liked it and I am a one book/year reader.

A fun, easy read that is both entertaining and educational for everyone.

Runners and non-runners alike will enjoy this fun, easy read. Some of these ultra-runners are real characters. You will find yourself rooting for almost all of them! This should also change the way you think about the health and care of your feet and what major shoe companies count on you to believe so that you will keep spending wads of money on footwear that does little more than weaken the structures of your ankles and feet. As a Physical Therapist Assistant I recommend this book for not only it's entertaining true story but for the enlightening information.Lire l'avis complet...

Great gift for a Grandson!

I purchased Born to Run for my 15 yr. old Grandson Josh for Christmas. He is a sophmore in high school and on the cross country team and is doing exceptionally well. This is what he said about the book.

"Born To Run was a great book. There were a bunch of funny parts and it really dove into the ultramarathon running scene that is practically unheard of to even most runners. Thanks a lot for getting it for me by the way".
