Borderlands, a sea of guns!

First off, I love guns. The look of a futuristic gun that shoots laser beams, or a shotgun that fire mini rockets puts a smile on my face like no other. With that being said, there is Borderlands to fill my plate with the need to collect an insane amount of loot and satisfy my craving for murder and death.
Borderlands is essentially a game based around a merc who goes on a treasure hunt on a remote world that once housed aliens. The graphics are beautiful (despite the dead planet) and the set locations are perfect. It reminds me of an end of the world/apocolypse type of planet. Mechanics of the game are very user friendly, the interface is simple to pickup, the inventory menu is a sinch and the combat is quite smooth.
There are some cons to the game though. For one, you can't in any way alter the look/speed/reload/strength of the weapons you find. If you really want to put that scope thats on your rifle onto your rocket launcher, your out of luck. Second, there aren't that many enemy types in the game, rather there are just different grades of the same enemy. There maybe a small type of dog, but there will be a slightly larger dog of a different color that has a meaner looking name. Driving vehicles can be a downright chore sometimes. Driving along at a good clip and you hit a small boulder and suddenly it becomes an immovable object and you stop on a dime.
With the few cons and plenty of plus's to the game, I gave it an almost perfect score. With it's gritty art style, goretastic weapons and the story lines right out of a dark comic, most younger (30 and younger) players will fall in love with Pandora and all of it's inhabitants.

Slam Dunk Action Packed Game - Little Depth - Renter

Borderlands as gone for a obscure and some would say sticky middle road, not a deep emersive role playing game nor a adrenaline filled shooter. Many have praised it for taking this path, many have laughed at what they believe to be a ridiculous concept.

Music:

First of the games theme music is flattering not only to the art style but also the game play, words like "aint know rest for the wicked" jingle in my head each time I unload a clip to remove yet another poor being from obstructing my chosen path.

Art:

Now 2k Games made a big deal about this, they advertised alot of footage to show off there new style game. I however do feel they were just trying to hit another reason why this game is different from the others. Its graphics feel dated and the art style seems to be a cover up for lazy details. That said, it grows on you. By the time you finish your first 4 hour session you will have completely forgotten that its any differently graphically to any other game you've played.

Gameplay:

This is the core, the heart, the soul of Borderlands. Things like experience popping up on the screen after a kill (much like COD multiplayer) keep you looking for kills, bold read letters of "Critical Hit!" keep you aiming for the head and the "87 Bazillion guns" keep you looting the bodies that drop. For those of you who love leveling up characters, this will keep you entertained... for a while. But thats all part of my final section.

The Moan:

RPG... Now it's a regularly used term and there are many titles that cling onto the 3 sacred letters to try and project an image of real depth and days of exploring. Borderlands unfortunately does not have real depth.

There is no great area that will take you more than a couple of hours to explore, there are no great choices that will spin the game. And to be completely honest there is no significant story, you get no details on a history behind the character you have chosen and there is little detail given to why some people help you to your goals and why your even so eager to get to the conclusion of the story. And unfortunately you shouldn't hurry to there end. Its very disappointing!

Conclusion:

With creating a game completely different in a time surrounded by well founded sequels (Left 4 Dead 2, Assassins Creed 2, Modern warfare 2) there is always going to be people who ignore it, people who hate it and people who class it as a hidden gem.

I can safely declare myself in the latter crowd cheering on the mighty folk at 2k Games. They have put a new franchise out and have already declared that there will be more. I personally can't wait.

Simply put:

This game is a great piece of co-op fun.

Awesome Game

I am enjoying all the graphics and action. Always busy planning my next move and how to overcome obstacles. The one thing I hate is all the narrative you have to go through when you introduce a new character. No button to bypass thatLire l'avis complet...

A game that combines everything we know and love.

Borderlands has 2 big things going for it from the start. First, it's a new IP, which is an automatic win. How many new IPs are coming out this year? Barely any, and Borderlands brings us something new and fresh. Second is the art style. At first, I didn't think the team could pull it off in such a vast world. Guess who was wrong? Even though they seem stupid, I wouldn't take these graphics any other way. The graphics really flex the muscles of the 360, and it makes sure Borderlands isn't like Fallout 3.

Now to the meat of the game. Let's start with the guns. At this moment, Gearbox has 17.5 million+ weapons confirmed for the game, which is probably where they stopped. This is a monumentous amount!!!!! It would take you 20 years earning a gun every minute to come even close to attaining all of them. And we aren't even counting items!!!! The gun count really adds to Borderlands' awesomeness.

Next, we got multiplayer. How many RPGs can you play 4-player co-op online? How about split screen? SPLIT SCREEN!!!! This is an excellent move from Gearbox, plus your character can still progress in your friend's game. This is a really huge selling point for Borderlands.

As for the actual gameplay? Excellent. There is a little bit of grinding at the beginning, but it doesn't really detract from the gameplay experience. The shooting is fast and enjoyable. The enemies are varied and you will want to shoot them. There also is AI hiccups, but it's unavoidable considering the size and balance of the game.

Overall, if you like video games, you gotta buy this one. If your a stay-at-home mom, I can understand you not being interested. But even if you want to throw fire and holy water at Borderlands because you dislike it with every part of your being..... buy it anyways. It's that good.

Not worth full price

Borderlands is a good game, but with a lot of bugs and the amount of DLC you're going to want to get, you will not want to pay full price for it.

Borderlands, for me, is very difficult to play by yourself. Not challenging-wise, but boring-wise; Pandora is a huge place, and exploring it just by yourself just gets old after awhile. Thanks to xbox live though you can easily go online with 3 other friends.

Bugs limit this game, like stated before, Pandora is a huge world. So naturally, you'd want to take a vehicle across the terrain. Well, the vehicles are the most screwed up I've ever seen in a video game.

Borderlands does have its plus side though, and that can be found in its guns, comedy, plethera of places to explore, and large amounts of DLC available for after you finish the game.

Overall, Borderlands is a great game to play with friends, but my advice is to definitely get it on the cheap through ebay.

Borderlands (Xbox 360)

Borderlands is a unique game, taking both 1st person shooter, and RPG qualities and brilliantly mixing them together to create a totally original and deep game. With four characters to choose from, each with their own abilities and pros and cons, the choices are endless. The game has virtually unlimited amounts of various guns, each with there own pros and cons as well. The environment in this game is so different and redone compared to other games' graphics like Bioshock or Halo 3. There are multiple areas and lands you can travel to and immerse yourself in battle. The games level up system is both your friend and your enemy, giving you a hard time to achieve your next level, but rewarding you with a stronger character every time you are able to climb to the next rank. This game is no cake-walk, and does present many challenges and intriguing boss and mini-boss battles. The game also features a 4 person real-time multiplayer interface where your friends can jump in or out of your world and assist you in quests battles and even trade off some items to help you out in tough times. There is also a lot of talk about this game getting quite a bit of Downloadable content, which allows you to further increase your adventures in the game and see new lands and fight off new enemies, and best of all, the chance to find new weapons and quests. When it comes to Borderlands, the endless guns, abilities, special attacks, level ups, and creatures to fend off will not leave you bored, or asking for your money back.

One of the most underratted RPG on the Xbox

One problem with this game was the demo. When i played the demo i thought the game was silly and i didn't realize that it even was an RPG.
After noticing that this game made a "25 MUST own games" list i gave it another look and i am really glad i did.
This game is an outstanding Apocalyptic RPG. If you like fallout you will like this game. It is a light RPG meaning there is not a lot of story or dialog, but what it lack in story it makes up for with fun. This game offers that in spades.
The clean interface works very well to show you the information that you need, and at times remove items you don't need to see.
The loot is varied and useful. You will get a lot of Ammo and a fair amount of weapon and shield drops as well as cash. You can buy items easily from a variety of vending machines.
I was pleasantly surprised to find the vehicles to be outstanding, a lot of fun easy to control, power cannons and easy to get in and out of.
I have found a few pathing issues, but nothing that will stop the game. on time i got stuck in a box but was able to granade myself out of there. no problem
the respapwns start off low but do cost more and more money based on your amount of cash and or level. The shield system and health packs will allow you to avoid visinting them too often.
_There is a lot more to this game than i have seen yet, for example online + Multiplayer co-op mode. I can already tell that looks outstanding as the vehicles accommodate a driver and a second shooter in a 360* turret. I am looking forward to giving that a try.

I have not played though the entire game yet, but just wanted to let everyone know that if you are looking at this game and are a fan of RPG's don't hesitate to get it. You will not be disappointed. this game is truly one of the most underrated games on the Xbox system and does earn the title of "Must Own"
Think of this like a Fallout 3 with co-op and duel mode, in a less realistic graphic environment (Graphics are more on the cartoon side than fallout 3)

A great game

Borderlands is a great role playing game. It has a ton of different weapons that can be picked up and make the game worth playing through again and again to try and get the perfect set up. There are already tons of great add ons for the game that make it a lot of fun. After playing through once you have the chance to play through again with much more difficult enemies. The multiplayer feature is one of the best parts though. You can play with a group of up to four online or system linked and you also can play with people on a single console though the split-screen is a little annoying. The game has a decent plot though the end to me was a little of a let down but throughout the game you will meet hilarious characters that always have something funny to say. They get even more funny in the downloadable content. The game is constantly being updated as well so it will just get better and better. I highly recommend the game for the reasons above. My only complaint is the very end should've had a few more items than it did. I give it 2 thumbs up.Lire l'avis complet...

Wild Adventure in a wacky and violent world

I really wish I could give this a 4.5/5 but the co-op play, online options, DLC, and overall fun push it up to a 5/5. The gameplay is fun and addictive, the characters you meet are goofy and enjoyable, and there is a ton of depth with different class mods, hundreds of weapons, customizable shields, grenades, and more....

That being said, the only knocks I have are these: There are so many side quests (which is a great thing), but I really lost track of what the objective of the storyline was. While there are a bunch of humorous characters, few are really developed and fleshed out. There are a few quips of humorous dialogue but most of the plot and missions are revealed through screens of text, and everybody talks like country bumpkins which at times is funny and other times annoying and vaguely racist (in my opinion). Also, the Claptrap character is annoying too...The last thing I want to hear during a fight for my life is a little robot saying "look at me! I'm dancing, I'm dancing!!!" for the umpteenth time. Adding more voiced dialogue probably would have made me more invested in the characters and the plot. Also, some of the game reminds me of Fallout, Mad Max, and other sources; and by "reminds" I mean, "directly taken from or satire of." I can appreciate re-using or making satire from good material, but sometimes I felt like it detracted from a unique game that didn't need to reference other games for cred.

Even with those few problems listed above, the addictive gameplay, plethora of missions and upgrades, and the cel-shaded style is unique and wonderful. It's a wild and wacky adventure that I look forward to taking more than once or twice. By now, the price should be dropping and it is well worth whatever the current price is. Do yourself a favor and take a trip to Pandora(tm)!

Claptrap: "Look at me! I'm dancing! I'm dancing!"
Me: "Yes, I know. And it's still annoying..."
