A film for cineastes!

The film makers, the Director, made a new film as a sequel. It follows the Dick science fiction story themes. The scenery and soundtrack set new standards. The packaging provides Bluray, DVD and streaming versions. A bargain.

A little long but still a fine movie sequel.

Like most folks who buy this movie I am a Blade Runner fan. To be fair the original was a very hard act to follow but this movie gave it good try and all in all seceeded. A little slow moving at times and a little less satisfying the the original but worth the purchase price and the time. Would buy it again. The 3D was ok but nothing special but again worth a look and better then the 2D version for me although your TV will have a lot to do with this. I also bought the 4K version and not sure if was worth the extra cost. If you have a TV with very good to excellent upscaling I think I would pass as this is how I am tending to feel at this time. Will watch the 4K version again down the road to finalize my feelings on this DVD. Would buy again.Lire l'avis complet...

Movie offered nothing new.

This movie had H. Ford(Deckard) as a sub-character. That was out of place. The movie used the same set-types as the original. Scenes were shot in very reduced light to blur set details. And Surely that society had advanced over the past many years. No, it was stagnant. I didn't like the acting. Some of the events were merely click bait as when Deckard's old girlfriend copy was shot in the head for no apparent reason other than shock value. It was not a fun movie to watch. It offered nothing new. Lire l'avis complet...

An Excellent Follow up to the Original!

Look, I realize this movie wasn't a "financial" success at the box office, at least not what WB wanted it to be. That being said, neither was the original Ridley Scott film. It seems films are judged to either be successes or failures more and more by how much money they bring in, which if that's the only metric you're using, a lot of good to excellent films would be bombs. A good example is another Ridley Scott film, his first feature length motion picture "The Duellists". Now, I didn't see how much the film made when it was released in 1977, but the production budget was around a million dollars. And even if nobody saw it, it's a fantastic period piece (like Stanley Kubrick's "Barry Lyndon" -which was released two years before "The Duellists"). What a film makes doesn't necessarily mean it's a good movie or a bad movie. "The Transformer's" franchise sucks, they're horrible, redundant movies filled with the most base emotional trite story telling imaginable. Yet they're financially successful. "Blade Runner 2049" was not the financial hit WB thought it would be, as the original movie was geared towards a very specific sub-genre of science fiction. The acting in this film is equal to the original, as are the effects. The story telling does get a bit long in the tooth (as my review is getting to be, lol) but it overall satisfies and is compelling enough to have kept me engaged. This isn't a "popcorn" movie like "Independence Day" or any of the "Star Wars" movies (which, I love -mostly). This is a thought provoking, engaging movie that is mindful of it's origins and in continuing the story. I recommend this to those who like the original, and who can appreciate movies that are on this level.Lire l'avis complet...

Blade Runner 2049 An Instant Classic!

This film is terrific! It asks many questions, some of which are answered, some not. The darkness of the original film is continued here. It is a long film, but the length feels just right. The special effects are dazzling. It is not a film with lots of violence and explosions. Thinking and concentration are paramount in watching Blade Runner 2049. Highly recommended.Lire l'avis complet...

Illogical Plotting

Good Value and entertaining. However, plot difficult to follow at times, plus gave viewer idea of plot and then twisted it to the point of confusion. Did not show consistency of main character, changing plot illogically, and ending not clear. Should have ended differently. Whoever produced needs to learn and plot the picture in a clear a logical way. Lire l'avis complet...

Solid movie

Very well-thought out movie with great attention to even the subtlest details. Great cast, great acting, really good special effects. I liked the first film and the spin-offs, but this is by far the best in the series. Can't wait for a sequel.Lire l'avis complet...

Villeneuve carries Ridley Scott's vision into new territory

It was the long-awaited sequel to Ridley Scott’s 1982 science fiction classic, “Blade Runner” that grabbed me unlike any other film in 2017. As I accumulated four theatrical sojourns watching “Blade Runner 2049” I found a deeper and richer cinematic experience with each viewing, one that, to me, even surpassed the original as a work of serious art (for this is no action picture). The reason for this undoubtedly was due to Scott entrusting the great Canadian director, Denis Villeneuve (who previously made “Incendies”, “Prisoners”, “Sicario” and the previous year’s “Arrival”) to honor the original film’s world and philosophical themes while laying claim to his own vision and personal style. Taking place 30 years after Deckart and Rachael emerged from the elevator to leave the smog and overpopulation of 2019 Los Angeles, the new film follows a recent model replicant (with a normal human lifespan) called ‘K’ (played perfectly by an appropriately imperturbable Ryan Gosling) as he investigates a growing replicant freedom uprising to discover the remains of a once-pregnant replicant, something that leads him not only into mysterious territory in which he discovers the now reclusive Rick Deckart (Harrison Ford in one of his most subtle performances), but also leads him into a journey into his own identity. Darker and more sparse than the original, “Blade Runner 2049” dives into a more nihilistic milieu where the earth’s digital and technological systems have been wiped out from an ecological disaster known as the Blackout, and the air and water have become toxic, plants and animals have gone extinct, and there has been mass migration to urban centers with the rich moving to off-world colonies. Even sunlight is only visible through thick layers of smog and clouds, and various cities like San Diego have become large garbage disposal areas. Villeneuve, now at the peak of his directorial powers, moves us poetically, inexorably throughout this world for a full 164 minutes, something for which the film’s cynical detractors criticize, but I praise him for having the courage to allow its story to develop in a carefully measured fashion, taking the time to engulf its willing and patient viewers into its world view. I liken it to turning over one’s self to the listening of a Wagner opera like “Parsifal” in which time seems to stop as one is encompassed completely into another place, another time -- and after its long viewing I seem to awaken as if having submitted to a dream, emerging somewhat reborn and more enlightened with knowledge of the human experience. And that is really what this and the original film are really about. Underneath its marvelously detailed science fiction trappings with its state-of-the-art production design and special effects (often eschewing CGI for authentically-constructed sets and realistic miniatures), and heightened to a level of unmatched beauty by the cinematography of Roger Deakins, the film is really a thoughtful meditation on what makes us human. To me this is the most accomplished film of 2017, and one I long to experience again and again in future viewings.Lire l'avis complet...
