Black Robe - A window in time

In this honest feeling film set in the 1600's, neither the Native Americans nor the early missionary priests are idealized. Both are depicted with their imperfections, incomplete understanding, and sin, equally human, thus making it quite different from Kevin Costner's 'Dances with Wolves' film, or even 'The Mission'. The lifestyle and locations are also not romanticized, which I felt added to the genuine feeling of the film. We are able to experience the rugged, harshness of life in this time, as well as see from different perspectives of different characters the clash of culture and world view. Many characters, including the young French man accompanying the priest change in their personal views as they develop. Tragic, thought provoking, filled with poignant moments, this film is a journey in another time. It is well worth watching. Black Robe

This is a very great movie.If you lined or loved "Dances with Wolves ".This is even 19X far BETTER!Great actors many indigenous american/1st nation peoples actors which some who appeared in Dances with Wolves movie.This is set in late 1500s to early 1600s Wilds of Canada .Its absolutely beautiful in everyway.It based on the founding of canada and the jesuit priests who suffered torture and often sometimes death for their faith.But it is not in your face religious nor overly so.Its very much historical and accurate in the telling of it.Its a very ,very well made historical drama which featuteres the earliest of times often hardly or ever featured in most movies or in this area.I give recommend this movie very highly and give it 2 thumbs up👍👍Lire l'avis complet...

Good story, with modest camera work

Black Robe is an amazing tale, but is a shame the camera work and direction were not better. Specifically, the film would have benefited from better use of the camera, use of light and wide screen to accurately capture the magnificent scale and drama of the wild Canadian landscapes where it was shot. A great story limps home at the ending only with written historical narrative and without screenplay resolution.Lire l'avis complet...

Not as I had hoped, Not for Me

This had nudity in it, and is older movie when I guess the ratings were different. Maybe good story line but not for my taste.
I am a PG-13 person.

scenery is so nice

our 1st Americans were very primitive compared to the Euro folk---no metal--wheel-- written language..this film brings this out and they were forced to water it down but i say thumbs up
