GREAT book for the novice bird watcher!!

This is a great book for the novice bird watcher. It is arranged by primary color of the bird so if you have no idea what kind of bird it is you can still find it easily. It has actual photographs of the birds rather than drawings which I think is a plus. It also has brief descriptions of the female and juvenile bird as well as author's notes describing other birds that may be similar to the one you're looking at so you are aware of other birds with very similar characteristics. It is a small book so it's very convenient...there's a lot of info packed into a small and managable package. It's not overwhelming if you're new to birding. The only downfall I found is that it does not list every single Alabama bird. But, it does have the most common varieties seen and for the novice that keeps it simple and user friendly. I have found it to be very useful for identifying my backyard birds and those I see on the walking trails around my house. I would strongly recommend!!Lire l'avis complet...

Categorized by color, not by type

When you spot a bird, the 1st thing you notice is color. This book uses that focus to categorize birds. Rather than have all the waders together, all the birds of prey together, etc., it has all blue colored, red colored, gray colored, etc., together. When the male and female of a species differ, each shows up under its predominant color. It features nice, clear pictures of each bird, explanations to distinguish between similar birds (I now recognize when I have a purple finch or house finch at my feeder.)Lire l'avis complet...

Good Title, lets you know what birds are in Alabama.

This book is easy to use for looking up birds by color. Think it would be better if size was a bit bigger, but does fit nicely in a coat pocket.
