Beyond the Beyond
I bought this game for the novelty, it is a classic game and is out of print and manufacturing for this game has stopped. I also love challenges...so this is perfect.
Graphics - 3/5 - Nothing special here. The interface is also very simple. The magic however looks pretty neat, and camera angles aren't fixed so you can look at the battle from different angles. Also, places like castles and towns are very easy to distinguish. The characters are also easy to distinguish, a very good thing indeed.
Character Depth - 2/5 - Again nothing special here. The characters lack a distinct personality, and the only character that I can find a personality for would be Samson...as he plays the bodyguard / tough guy. And...maybe Tont. Everyone else seems very boring very monotone with words. Just hope you never have to hear them speak in real life ^_^.
Controls - 4/5 - The controls are simple, well functioned, and easy to catch onto. It doesn't take advanced knowledge to grasp and handle the controls for Beyond the Beyond. That's always a good thing.
Music - 2/5 - The music will either make you smile or cringe. The music format for this game is reminiscent to a MIDI style 8-bit soundfile, and some of the dungeon music will make you want to turn the volume to ZERO. I have...but you can also accquire a music box item later on, which will let you sample the music in the game. I must say that I am pleased with some of the music, but it lacks consistency.
Gameplay - 4/5 - If you rush this game, it can be very challenging. The monsters grow in difficulty very quickly (which is a good thing for challenge freaks like myself =) and you must learn to adapt to your surroundings in a relatively short amount of time. In dungeons, monster encounters are very VERY frequent, sometimes can be very frustrating when trying to solve a challenging puzzle that the game brings you. There were times when I would count less than a second and get another fight right after the last one. However you do have the option to RUN from a fight.(Can be a nice thing.). However a lot of this game revolves around a dull story line and mainly fighting demons to gain EXP.
Replay Value - 4/5 - For some reason, I always find myself trying to level up my chars, and better my chars, and gaining levels can be VERY tedious. If you are a patient person like myself, this is a very good thing. I really like this game.
Overall - 3/5 - Not a bad game. If you like a challenge, and an RPG that won't last you overnight, snag this one =)

The storyline in short:
Many years ago, there was a cataclismic battle between the beings of light and the wizards of the underworld. This battle became so deadly that it threatened to engulf the entire world along with any denizens who would die in the battle.
Finally, the two sides came down to reason with one another ; beings of light would stay on the surface of the Earth and the beings of darkness would inhabit and rule the underworld. The kingdom of Quamdar was set as the boundary and gateway to these two worlds.
Things went well, until suddenly a black and ominous cloud began to hover over Quamdar...and the great tower of Arawn appears, could history be repeating itself?
Beyond the Beyond stars a young boy named Finn, who's destiny it is to find out these answers and put an end to the evil that is beginning to engulf the world.

A great game!
I also like to say this is the first game I truly loved so much that I played 48 hours straight with no sleep.
Introduction: I am not sure if this is the first RPG that came out for the Playstation, or if it is the first RPG that I played on the Playstation platform. Eitherway, this may or may not have influenced my take on it. I see a couple of reviews that didn't give it a high score, however I will try to be as judgmental as possible. I also like to say this is the first game I truly loved so much that I played 48 hours straight with no sleep (I know I am a game nut! lol.)
Here are the details.
Gameplay 9/10
Elements 9/10
This game has a lot going for it, as far as gameplay elements are concerned. One being the critical hit factor where you can mash the x button at the right time to get a critical hit. You also have a dual attack with your sidekick dragon. As far as the uniqueness of spells and Summons go, they are unique. Very unique looking. In most games Fire 1 for example is pretty much like a bigger version of Fire 2. IN this game, Fire1 is a whole different enchilada than Fire 2 for example. This makes the battles less boring. The other thing I absolutely love about this game is that you could accidentally wander in an area where you are not supposed to be for a while. AND YOU CAN ENTER!! The catch is, that you may encounter an enemy all of a sudden that wipes out your entire party. This made the game more exciting and challenging for me. Not to mention you can get some good exp with the right setup. The game also includes a variety of secret characters, all very colorful.
Controls 6/10
I didn't have any problem with the controls, and I thought everything was fine. The only Qualm I have is clicking on objects. Let's say you click a box from the south, it won't have anything, but if you click it from the left it might have something. I thought that was quite cheesy. There is also the issue of activating some items at some spot per say. Sometimes even if you are ON the spot, it won't work. So you have to keep going up and down around the spot, and go click happy to make it work.
Difficulty 8.5/10
Ok, I have to say this game can get difficult at times, and leveling is quite difficult and time consuming. You could also accidentally end up in places where you are not supposed to be for a while, and your whole party could get wiped out. So for that I give it an 8.5/10 for difficulty.
Story 9/10
I loved the story!!! This game is all about Chivalry, and has a lot of twist and turns. Knights, castles, dragons, ... What more can you ask for.
Audio 5/10
This is a relatively old game, and the sound is nothing to brag about.
Graphics 8/10
The graphics are old school. And I am giving it an 8/10 just because the graphics were very good for the time it got released. It was an old school game, that is 2d with a 3d feel. The characters are nicely designed, the backgrounds are cute, and the spell and summon graphics vary quite a bit.
Value 9/10
This is a GREAT RPG. Just being an RPG would give it great value, but since it's a great one, I have to give it a 9/10 value wise. It is definitely worth a buy.
Replayability
I can see this game being played more than once. At least two in my book. But probably not any more than 2 :)

Lost Classic
This game is interesting, it has a Sega Genesis feel by the rendered backgrounds, with the battle arena at the forefront. Neat story, and always a good classic to come back to. The only issue I have with it, is the game makes them switch swordshield depending on the camera angle. I know it's a mid 90's game, but still, that's kinda weird looking.

OG Rpg experience
This game is the nostalgic experience. Good characters and story and it is very difficult. If you beat this game without referencing a guide, you are the goat.

3.5 out of 5. Not liked by most, I found it average.
HIGH in the random battle elements, this game turned off a lot of players and reviewers. Although, I personally MISS the days when there were a lot of random battles and levelling up, so that helps me.
All in all though, this game was just a cookie cutter rpg, easy to forget. Especially wioth a title like "Beyond the beyond"Lire l'avis complet...
Beyond the Beyond
When ps1 was the console of choice, me friend had this game and I played it at his house one day. I borrowed it immidiatly once i got a ps1 and it's been my favorite old school rpg of all time.
The first final fantasy games on the ps1 are crap compared to this storyline. THE STORYLINE CUTSCENES AND FULL-VIEW BATTLE SCENES MAKE THIS GAME FAR SUPERIOR TO ANY OTHER OF IT'S TYPE.
If you like old school rpg games and you're looking for a new one, this is it.

Oldie but Goodie
Although outdated, a fun trip to take while building up characters for lengthy adventures. The Japanese animation will appeal to all those looking for a blast from the past!
