Cocteau's La Belle et la Bete is a Beauty

I had the original Criterion release of this dvd, but kept hearing about how great the new transfer was on the re-release. I took the plunge and double dipped, which I hate doing, but was I ever pleased. The transfer is gorgeous, the additional features are great (the Phillip Glass opera as alternate audio track is worth the purchase price alone), and the film itself remains one of the finest fairy tales ever put on film. Cocteau's film is a masterpiece in every sense of the word, and Criterion has given it a dvd treatment worthy of that status.Lire l'avis complet...

This movie is so shockingly good.

Thank you soooo much! I had one on blue ray and it didn’t play on my DVD player. This played great and my daughter’s loved it. It is so close to the original story I heard as a child.

beauty and the beast 1946

saw this in film class in the early 70's and the cinematography was amazing if you like foreign films this is a must see

Jean Cocteau's "Beauty & the Beast"

This is a wonderful film, and an all time personal favorite! - The photography, costumes and sets are fantastically imaginative. Highly recommended.
