AAAAAAAAAAGH!

Anyone who has played this game before knows exactly what the title of this review is about. This game is a fun, one-or-two player brawler game, but is also one of the HARDEST GAMES TO EVER HAVE BEEN MADE.

Battletoads is a brawler, similar to Double Dragon or The Ninja Turtles arcade titles. You punch and kick enemies to defeat them, fight larger-than-life bosses, and get frustrated when you die for the umpteenth time because you ran into one of those platforms in the hoverbike area of level 3. Having played this game myself, however, I can say with all honesty that it's not the game's fault. Sure, it's a difficult game, but the problem isn't in cheap deaths as much as it is in the player's own gaming skill. I may have sworn my head off while playing level 3, but I can get through with almost no problems now.

Pick up a copy of this game if you like games like Double Dragon and the TMNT arcade games...oh, and if you play with a friend, be careful not to accidentally kill him or her after he or she accidentally kills your character in the second level. It was an accident, honest.

If you can beat this game, you can beat any NES game.

If you can beat this game, you can beat any NES game. This is the staple title of toughness in the Nintendo Entertainment System's library and nothing will get you more frustrated than the Turbo Tunnel at level 3. Once you get acquainted with the controls and enemy patterns, there isn't much you can blame other than yourself for not learning the strategy to victory. Battletoads isn't meant for the modern gamer, since it requires hard work, patience, effort, and the mentality of a honey badger. If you're the type that want's rewards for time spent, you're croaking up the wrong lily pad. You will need to do a lot more than practice to make perfect. You'll need to change game play like an amphibian changes it's environment and appearance using turbo scooters, ropes, machines, swimming, running and other methods of locomotion to kick cloaca.Lire l'avis complet...

Best game I have ever played!

This game is just amazing. After picking up a FC Twin(NES/SNES duel system) I thought: "what games can I get that I havent been able to play in years"? Seeing as a kid the choice of keeping my games werent a option with moving and such I was forced to sell my old games, but now I can get them back and what better game then Battletoads? I remember this game so well growing up. Sure its hard as hell now as it was when I was 2 years old(yes been gaming since then). This game was beautifully done by a company called RARE which was known for great games. Yes it was produced by tradewest but RARE did the actual work on it. Just things bout this game set it off so well from other action/adventure beat em up style games

For one you were a Toad(either Rash if you were hooked in port one or Zitz if hooked in port 2, or multilayer) on top of my comment note the grotesque names. Yes they are skin infections, mmm what better name for a toad. Anyways you played through several crazy levels on your quest to save the princess and Pimple the 3rd toad. Catch with this game is what seemed easy at 1st got extremely hard by level 3. God the memories with Turbo tunnel that will haunt me forever. But either then seeming impossible to beat it was a great game from running along a canyon beating up psycho pigs, to going down a chasm on a zip line beating up crows and plants, to riding a bike at extreme speeds trying to avoid walls and rats on flying bullets that dropped walls on you, to going through a sewer fighting off mutant rubber ducks, all along with a kickass soundtrack, even when you paused the game you got the sick beats.

Yes this game had everything a action/adventure style game should have. Getting bored wasn't a issue, just dying a million times, and at times it was a game of trial and error where you had to memorize from your last death lol. Overall it was a great experience, just on 2 player don't expect to get far without good team work cus you can beat up your partner and if one of you dies you got to start over. Either then that its a amazing game and to me the multiplayer doesn't effect my experience so I still give it a solid 5/5 cus in all honesty I wouldn't have done anything different with this game. If you get a chance to play this game please take it.

Fun, hard to play game, I had lots of fun playing it, try avoiding 2 player

I bought this product with high expectations of a challenging, and fun to play game. I got what I wanted. It's just so challenging I can't get past the third level (and from what I hear, not many people can!). I had known about the infamous hover bike level in this game, that's part of the reason I bought it.

I love the idea of the game, as cheesy as it is. You play as a battletoad (two, if you're playing 2 players) trying to save one of your friends who gets captured. I dislike the two player mode. A lot. It has friendly fire (which more than half the time, you don't mean to hit your friend), and on top of that, once your teammate dies, you both start at the beggining of the level. Ontop of that, the player who didn't die keeps the amount of lives he had when his friend died (so say you have one life left and your friend loses, You have one life, he has 3 after continuing). Single player is still challenging, without having being accidentally pummeled by your friend while trying to help him. On the hover bike section of the third level is when the s**t hits the fan. The level design never changes, so you're able to memorise the layout, but that doesn't stop you from dying over, and over, and over again. Especially on two player, if either you or your friend gets hit by one of the obstacles, you start at the last checkpoint, and ontop of that, if you or your friend loses all his lives, you start at the beggining of the level and have to find the bikes again.

The game has a good amount of challenging creatures and gameplay, but is near impossible to complete in two player mode, you both would have to be experts in the game to complete it. I suggest this game to hardcore, pro, old-school gamers, for it provides challenge of which I rarley find.

Nostalgia for the hardest video game EVER

When I say hardest game ever, I'm not even remotely joking with you or engaging in any sort of hyperbole. I played this game as a little kid, and forever on level three I got stuck and I couldn't even beat this game without a game genie. Seriously, this game is almost impossible. I mean it makes Demon Souls for the PS3 look easy by comparison.

Battletoads is hard as hell. That's not to say it's not fun though or rewarding. The cut scenes are fun to watch, the animations are pretty funny, the gameplay is smooth, fluid, very fun. But like I said, this game defines "NES hard". Take it from me, a guy who played this game when it originally came out in 1990. To quote the awesome LordKat "You're going to die... a lot".

If you can look past the far beyond insane difficulty though(which believe me, you probably won't be able to), you'll find a very rewarding experience playing Battletoads. Don't underestimate this game though. Even God and Jesus have a hard time beating this game.

Battletizzoads

What a fun game, I'm pretty sure that D.D. and Battletoads: The Ultimate Team is a step up from this game but this is a step up from most other NES titles. The music is great and for a Nintendo game and it is also visually pleasing with strange settings for the levels. I enjoy taking parts of my enemies and smacking other enemies off the screen with those parts. The Battletoads franchise is a bit of a rip off from The Ninja Turtles but is definitly a contender. In place of shredder you got a dark princess kidnapping your buddies and thats the object of the game. If you love the NES then I would definitly recommend this one.Lire l'avis complet...

3 levels of replayable fun

While it is too hard, it's the best battletoads game out there. You cant get past level 3 but the levels and characters vary enough to make the game a worthy purchase. Play with game genie to skip to all the extra levels!Lire l'avis complet...

Amazing game for the time, but get a game genie

This game is awesome. Its got a mix of different levels where some are beat 'em up style, some are puzzle, some are driving, and some are just crazy. Its got the best soundtrack I've ever heard, you'll be singing the songs during each level (and trust me, they will be burned in your brain from hearing them so much). It's also a pretty long game for the NES too it took me a couple weeks, (thats with unlimited lives cheat active) to beat it. Another plus would be just to tell Gamestop you have it! Anyway, only one problem with this game. Try to beat level 3 without cheats. their are 12 levels and this game is just ridiculously hard. You will be screaming at some levels, I guarantee it. But overall it's an awesome game.Lire l'avis complet...

Probably the best NES games ever made

This game surpasses almost every other NES game that was ever released. Rare took the idea from TMNT II: Arcade Version and imporved upon it by adding different types of gameplay, from the typical TMNT II side scrolling fighting style, to dropping down a shaft from a rope, to riding a fast hover cart, to surfing, to riding huge snakes through difficult terrain.

It is difficult to beat the game, which is part of the reason that it is so amazing. Games that are too easy are hardly worth playing. On the old side-loading NES system, it was almost impossible to beat because it would always reset or get all screwy. With the top-loader NES system, the game plays perfectly for as long as you want so it opens up the opportunity to actually beat it.

5 out of 5. Amazing game!!

Battletoads: a unique, challenging, funny classic NES title.

I have been a fan of nintendo all my life and have recently discovered the joy of collecting retro games by talking to other collectors and researching games to collect I decided to buy Battletoads, this game holds up today blending several types of gameplay while still being hilarious to play over and over again. If you are someone who hasn't played alot of older games it can be a little challenging but I believe they made games harder back then lol. I've enjoyed playing Battletoads alot and am glad to have it in my ever growing NES library, If you see it here on Ebay or in your local game store BUY it you won 't be disappointed.Lire l'avis complet...
