The doll is wonderful. She holds a copy of the author's terrific book Why the Caged Bird Sings, which tells the story of her life. It honors her life in a simple and accessible yet meaningful way.

I understand that this is part of a collection of "collectible" dolls, but I bought it for my granddaughter to play with. I feel strongly that all kiddos need should have access to dolls that look like them. We have black, white, and brown grandkids and finding good representations can be challenging. Maya Angelou was and continues to be my "shero"...
I hate that I wasn't able to purchase this doll via the original sale because Maya Angelou was and continues to be my "shero". I also hated that so many people sought to profit off of others' (who truly wanted the doll) inability to buy her when she was released, too; however, I managed to get her at a fairly reasonable price, and she really is an awesome doll. The attention to detail within her clothing, accessories, face, and backdrop are very impressive. This is a lovely doll! I wish the body structure was loftier but I realize it is a Barbie and must adhere to those specs. The outfit and jewelry are quite lovely.
