Baldur's Gate II: Shadows Of Amn Review!

You face an uncertain future. Your lineage tempts the unscrupulous to use you and the ignorant to fear you. You will face a foe who views you as no more than chattel, who toys with you at every turn; a villain whose goals go beyond a quest for power and who threatens to use a lost companion as a tool for unparalleled destruction. The choices you make will not be easy, and you may have to align with the lesser of evils when all evils cannot help but seem equal. In the end you will have mourned lost loves, celebrated new ones and lived through adventures that profoundly shaped the Forgotten Realms.

An epic continuation of the story that began in Baldur's Gate, Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn is set along the southern portion of the Sword Coast, a detailed and rich area of the Forgotten Realms called Amn. This region includes such varied environments as the Elven forests of Tethir, underwater cities, the Cloudpeak Mountains, cities of the Underdark, the Astral plane, the Abyss and the capital city of Amn, Athkatla. In addition to the main plot, Shadows of Amn includes over 100 sub-plots.

Shadows of Amn features 300 spells, compared to only 130 in Baldur's Gate. These include 7th-level priest spells and 9th-level mage spells, the most powerful in Advanced Dungeons and Dragons. Some of the spells included are: Contingency, Chain Contingency, Gate, Spell Turning, Delayed Blast Fireball, Time Stop, Disintegrate, Power Word: Kill, Finger of Death, Resurrection, Chain Lightning, Conjure Elemental, Blade Barrier, Meteor Swarm and Cacofiend.

Up to six people can join a game of Shadows of Amn in multiplayer mode. Each player must have a copy of the full game. The players can play the full game with their friends via LAN or over the Internet with a TCP/IP connection. Direct connections, like two-player, head-to-head and cooperative mode, are supported via modems or serial cables.

This is a great game.

This is an early RPG, so a super fast PC is not required. The game has a great plot with more than one twist along the way. There are quite a few characters that want to join your party but will leave if you do not cater to there characters alignment.
You start the game trapped in a dungeon and are released from a cage by one of your companions. You find some weapons in a room to begin the quest with along with a key to release another of your companions. Your fourth companion is a beserker so you just have to aggravate him to get him to break out of his cell. The first level isn't huge but is still interesting.
Time for a twist. After you find your way out of the dungeon, you come face to face with your captor. Your companion that released you begins an attack on the captor using magic. He counter-attacks, also using magic. You quickly find out that the use of magic in the city is prohibited and regulated by the Cowled Wizards. They take your captor and your companion in to custody and so begins your quest to find your companion and free her from the Cowled Wizards and find out a lot about yourself along the way.
Even if you have not played the first part of this RPG ( Baldur's Gate ), the storyline is not so dependent on its prequel that you can't just jump in. The game even gives some background info to bring you up to speed.

Best RPG!!

This is easily the best game i have ever played. You can rank a game in many ways, I give this game maximum points in every single category. Voice Acting: Probably the games strongest area was it's character development giving the game an extra dimension of realism and gravity, integral to this was the awesome voice acting which was/is the best I have ever known, this game showed that voice acting in computer games can be incredibly powerful, the actors who played the characters are real pro's. Also in this category is dialogue, which is equally incredible, occasionally I can still here a reedy voice in my head saying...."you should not have come to this place", unforgettable. Graphics: For their time, these graphics were top of the range, the outdoors are particularly impressive, weather it's the temple district or the wilderness, no two trees look anything alike. Sound/Music: The sound effects in the game were amazing, when you are in a city you here murmurings (of street traders/hawkers) which blend wonderfully into the background complementing everything. When you enter Suldanesselar you hear the frantic almost deranged chirpings of the birds which convey a sense of order-disrupted. The games musical score is absolutely gorgeous! The main theme is rousing and exciting and a pleasure to listen to, it adds even more grandeur and scale to the game. Gameplay: Top marks here too, there are so many ways you can play the game, so many paths you can take, the challenge level varies but overall is suitably balanced. The games replayability was awesome. When you add to this the extraordinary value for money you get because the game is extremely long, yet it never becomes repetitive. Overall this game showed me for the first time what the computer role playing genre was capable of, playing this game was like starring in a movie combined with reading a wonderfully gripping novel. You really feel for the characters.Lire l'avis complet...

Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn (PC Games, 2000)

What an over rated game. think of how fun a game would be that you have to uninstall then reinstall every time you play, also, attacking enemies rarely works, spells dont work, picking up stuff sometimes works sometimes doesn't, and think of how fun it is dying over and over again. the game is non linear, but most of the time it is impossible to find anything. The dialogue is decent, but overall it feels as if you are not in the D & d universe. Gameplay is less exciting than diablo, dark alliance and virtually all other similar games. I hate all the reviews online saying that this is the best game ever, I feel i was ripped.Lire l'avis complet...

Best Game In Its Class

I bought this game because I played it years ago when it first released. Its a fun and exciting game that captivates a unknown world and its people in it.The game employs a real time engine that can be made to work like turns by using a auto-pause mode or simply by pausing the came with the space-bar. Plays a lot like Baldur's Gate, Tales of the Sword Coast and Icewind Dale. The control is primarily mouse.
It's a definitive role-playing experience, and the only reason it can't be called the best game in its class is because in a sense there's nothing available that compares to it.

A great game!

The first Baldur's Gate game was amazing, well-told, with an easy battle system, and a compelling story. The sequel, Shadow's of Amn, takes all the amazing things that made Baldur's Gate 1 successful, and multiplies it by 100! It is graphically improved, an amazing soundtrack, new classes, new spells, new weapons for your PC to use, and then there's the even more amazing storyline! From start to finish, you'll be at the edge of your seat! I could be playing this game now, if it weren't for the fact that our disc 1 is broken, which is why I've turned to eBay to find it.Lire l'avis complet...

A Legendary Computer Game

This computer game stands out among the best of all time in my opinion. Yes, there are some newer games with better or 3D graphics, but they have less depth and sustained interaction. Baldur's Gate II is like an interactive novel filled with adventure, goblins and creatures from the depths of one's deepest imagination. The characters act with some sort of unique artificial intelligence. It seems there is always something new to learn or place to explore at every turn.Lire l'avis complet...
