Good AOR last of the "hair" bands from the 80's
The 1980's were drawing to a close when Bad English was formed. The influences that were brought into this band by the different members really shine through, you can definitely tell the Journey influence from Neil Schon and this music is melody + great lead guitar work + keyboards, which in my opinion = your standard AOR friendly 80's rock music. I'd imagine that most people under the age of 30 wouldn't know this band unless you happen to notice one of the two hits from this debut cd being played on FM radio ("Heaven Is A Four Letter Word" or "When I See You Smile"), but beyond those really good songs, the rest of the cd is very listenable and full of good songs with great lyrics and vocals and truly outstanding guitar work.Lire l'avis complet...
Journey as a hair band
I bought This Cd because I'm a huge fan of Journey,John Waite, and The Babys. Also I was 14 in the summer of 1989 when this was in heavy rotation on the radio and on MTV,and there's some great backseat memories there for me.However,I feel they could have done alot more with this. The songs on this stand alone ok but don't hold up well together. The quality goes from good song to filler from one to the next.Like I said,I'm a huge fan of Waite,Schon and Cain and instead of trying to be the next great rock n roll band of the time, they tried to jump on the Hair band Bandwagon that at the time was already tired and on the way out. Most of it is way overproduced even by 1980's standards[way too much keyboards!].I think they would have been better off self producing this one. What saves it is the songs and musicianship are there as is to be expected from these quality musicians,Although its obvious that there's no chemistry between them[rumor has it,Jonathan Cain and John Waite hate each other.]Anyway,Rocking horse,Possession and Don't walk away as well as Forget me not make it worth owning I guess but It will probably sit on a shelf most of the time like mine does.Lire l'avis complet...

Bad English 1989
First single "Forget Me Not" was a major hit at rock radio, spending two weeks at #2 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart, but it narrowly failed to hit the pop Top 40. The second single was the Diane Warren-penned power ballad "When I See You Smile", which was a massive multiformat hit, spending two weeks at #1 on the Hot 100, two weeks in the top 10 at rock radio, and getting significant and sustained play at Adult Contemporary radio.Lire l'avis complet...
