my son (1 yr) LOVES baby einstein. I am fluent in sign language and was thrilled when Baby Einstein started putting marlee maitlin in their videos (check out Baby Wordsworth) Shes such an excellent actress and advocate for the deaf community!
Anyway my son loves the video, loves watching the signs, words and puppets. I love the idea of teaching hearing children sign, my background in early childhood education tells me it's an excellent method for teaching children language. If u're afraid, dont be! your hearing child WILL learn to speak with the help of signs. Excellent video, excelletn beginning to teaching signs, although remember some of the signs used are not American Sign language, they are signed english bc it's easier for infants and toddlers to use modified ASL bc they cannot fingerspell yet.Lire l'avis complet...

Television and videos not good for children under 2

The name "Baby Einstein" can trick parents into believing it's okay or even good for their babies to watch it, but the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends no television AT ALL to children under 2 because so many studies have proven its harmful effects on children. Studies have shown that:

- for every hour of television a baby watches a day, their chances of acquiring an attention deficit disorder increases by 10%.
- among babies ages 8 months to 16 months, every hour spent daily watching programs such as 'Brainy Baby' or 'Baby Einstein' translated into six to eight fewer words in their vocabularies as compared with other children their age."
- brain wave activity in babies is slower when watching television than when sleeping.

"Signing Time" (Two Little Hands Productions) DVDs is an excellent option for OCCASIONAL video viewing because communicating in sign language with your child is proven to:

- reduce frustration and tantrums
- accelerate language development
- promote parent-child bonding

Baby Einstein DVD Around Town

Hi, this DVD is EXCELLENT!! Especially, if you are teaching your child sign language as a way of communication! The entire DVD shows the picture of the object, the printed word and the sign! It is also in a few different languages! I recommend this DVD to everyone and anyone that uses sign language as a way of communication! It is the perfect SPEECH THERAPY!! Baby Einstein's Baby's Favorite Places DVD

This is a fantastic DVD with a lot of Sign Language. It teaches children the English words, written and spoken, and also the sign for each place. It uses cute puppets and Marlee Matlin is also in this. A lot of variety in many different skits, this is a great DVD to get and hold a baby or toddler's attention. I decided to buy this product because I wanted all the collection of DVD's for my daughter. I found that this product and baby wordsworth are excellent for begin to learn sign language. My daughter and I love the bonus material (twinkle, twinkle little star in sign language). Baby Einstein - Very good!

As always, Baby Einstein is a great item to get for children, for any occasion! They have really set the mark for child tv / entertainment. Combining fun with learning. Baby Einstein is great! My children haev ALL of the dvd's, actually. And my 8 year old will sit and watch them, just as my 4 year old will. The shows / programs tend to capture the attention of just about any child. I don't know what Lori and I would have done if it weren't for the Baby Einstein series of videos. Ever since our son was old enough to focus on these videos, he has been enthralled.
