Very good little internet tablet! Great value for the price!!!!!

I bought the 16gb version to replace an identical one that I lost.

All in all, a very good tablet with only minor problems.

What I like about the tablet:
- Android-based (Froyo) OS>- Access to all the apps you ever wanted! (after you install Android Market on it)
- Works just as well as a smartphone, except the 3G
- Good battery life, even when playing video

What I don't like:
- Resistive touchscreen sometimes
- Takes a few seconds to "wake up" from sleep mode, the icons take a few moments to appear after the wallpaper shows up
- Device occasionnally crashes unexpectedly after connection to a bluetooth device has been lost (for example after the device enters sleep mode)
- No way to connect it to the internet unless you have a Wi-fi connection available.

Never having used another tablet, I cannot compare with others, but comparing it with my fiancé's smartphone that is also Android-based, all I can say is this tablet is about as good as his phone, with the only exception being the touch screen (his is capacitive). Also, my battery lasts longer than his.Lire l'avis complet...

Great little device with supurb display, but single touch and old Android.

This is a very nice tablet with some real pros and some cons. One noticeable problem is that it has a resistive rather than capacitive touchscreen. It requires a slightly heavier touch and will only recognize a single touch point. It is not multi touch. However the responsiveness is actually better than I expected. For most applications on a device this small it's quite good.
The biggest problem I've found, is that it runs Android 2.2, an older version of android. A great many of my favorite apps like Netflix, Facebook and such simply won't run on it. That's sad since the Wifi sensitivity is very good.
It is a little longer than other 4.3" tablets (I have two others) but it is thinner and fits very easily in a shirt pocket. It actually crashes less often than my other tablets running Android 4.0 and 4.2. The best feature to me is the display. Every other 4.3" tablet I've seen has a resolution of 480x272 while the Archos is 854x480. This provides a much better and clearer picture and exceeds DVD resolution. It also has an HDMI output with 720p HD quality. I just plugged into my 55" tv and watched a movie with excellent results.
Another feature is storage. Most pocket tablets come with 4Gb of internal memory, this one has 8 Gb. It also has the usual micro SD slot. I have a 16G card in mine, but I have used a 64G card and it works fine.
I fail to understand why Archos didn't update this great little device with later versions of Android and a multi touch display, or why other companies haven't produced one with the high-res display like this one.

A great Internet tablet for anyone.

Archos 43 is another great internet tablet from Archos. The Archos 43 has a bright and vibrant 4.3 inch screen. This device was originally designed to be a phone, so it is great for Skype calls. (Although it does not have any cellular capabilities) Even though the device does not come with the Play Store, you can still install it. In AppsLib, the app store for the Archos 43, search and download ArcTools. That app will install the Play Store for you.Lire l'avis complet...

Not worth the money. Buy a Samsung Captivate for less money.

These Archos tablets are overpriced and under-powered. You can get a real phone with better specs and run it as a tablet for less money.

It runs Froyo. Most phones run at least Gingerbread. Since Archos is working on the next generation of tablets, these Gen8s prob'ly won't get GB.

It doesn't come with the Android Market or other Google apps. You can install them, but it's a needless hassle.

It's low on memory. So low that Archos won't even tell you how much is in it on their website.

It has a resistive touchscreen. That means no multi-touch and sluggish response.

It has a low resolution camera.

basically its an awesome little tablet, and is affordable.

I bought the 16GB version basically for entertainment and storage. I pretty much wanted an ipod touch, but I wanted Android. I hate using an apple, lol. Anyway, this thing exceeded my expectations, and I love it.

Pros:

big screen with high quality picture
battery lasts for ever
internet can be mobile version or pc version
can dual-boot w/ linux angstrom
easily connects to tv for larger viewing
great sound quality from built in speakers
touch screen
lightweight
IT HAS A KICKSTAND!
micro SD slot
android
wifi
more affordable than larger brands

cons:

lesser-known brand
resistive, not capacitive
no 3g

a much better experience than with the iPod Touch!!!

i'm looking for an entertainment piece that i could carry along in my travels. my iPad is perfect though a bit heavy. my iPod touch is small. so this ONE fits the category - very nice 4.3" screen, powerful sound, connects to internet fast! lots of free apps in the Android market!Lire l'avis complet...

only buy if you cannot afford a brand name tablet.

Next time i'll stick to the brand names, it was too good to be true for the price. It stopped working one night after i charged it. Doesn't last that long.

Nice toy for kids

Archos fails once again:

Terrible camera quality 1.3MP

Wrong camera placement (bottom-right, very awkward hand gets in the way)

Wifi antenna also wrongly placed (bottom-right, hand blocks reception)

Resistive touch is very limiting (Once you use a capacitive touch, you don't want to go back to resistive)

Low ram, when factory reset, you get 72-100MB free out of 256MB (that can only handle a few apps at a time.

Low process speed (even though it's a 1GHz, it's nowhere near as fast as the 1GHz Droid x.

Bottom line: The Archos is very slow. Spend a little more for a droid x that can do much much more.
