Good buy, but pricey... should have bought earlier

I purchased this ipod to finally scratch the itch I have been having ever since I upgraded the sound system on my truck. I wanted to be able to listen to any / all of my music at all times and the only way to do this effectively was to get myself this little bugger and connect it to my stereo / dvd player. Why did apple ever stop making these? I will never know. Why didnt I buy one when they first came out? Lack of foresight. Nevertheless, the device is in good shape. The screen is vibrant and after formatting the hard drive (which I wholly recommend, even if you are using itunes to re-initialize the whole device later, everything is working fine. Sound through my vehicle speakers is great, and if later on I want to watch podcast videos, or any other content I so chose, Ill buy the video cable and replace the one i got now. I recommend this nugget to anyone who doesnt want to deal with cloud storage or blowing thru your data cap just listening to music. As an added bonus, you can show your photos on your car display screen from the ipod as well. Wireless bluetooth would have been the icing on the cake but that was too much to ask from apple then. As with all their devices, Apple future-proofs their market by making things obsolete with each generation. Control will never be obsolete in my book, however, and this device gives total control to a true music lover in spades.Lire l'avis complet...

Good for on the go simplicity.

Great interface and storage are the saviors of this media player. Unfortunately, it doesn't support any bit rate above 320 kbps, so anyone with higher quality audio (i.e. FLAC, OGG Vorbis) will need to compress their files in order to sync them. Also, the battery life is nothing to write home about.

Aside from that, it's super easy to use, and is compatible with almost everything these days. It's got great storage space, though removable storage would make things much better for those with large libraries.

Functional, but disappointing.

So I bought this used iPod knowing I might encounter some issues I wouldn't have if I'd just sprung and bought a brand new one, but I find some issues I'm encountering surprising. The light wear and tear/paint chips are completely negligible and acceptable, but the decent scratch across the screen that I don't think was mentioned in the description was a bummer. Now granted, I uploaded almost 16,000 songs onto this thing immediately, but another issue it has that my new buy never had was that there's a few-second lag between tasks when try to use the scroll wheel; for example, I'll put on Shuffle Songs and it will be 7-12 seconds later until I can even use the scroll wheel to adjust the volume, etc.
But the most disconcerting issue of all is the battery life: I understand an older battery may have less capacity, and while my brand new iPod/battery I had 2 years ago could last a good 15 hours of use or more, this one seems to give up around 6-8 hours of near-constant use and often reads that it has a depleted battery when just seconds earlier it said it had almost half battery life yet. When I got to put on a new artist/album/shuffle songs after several hours of using it during the week day, it will immediately say its batter is depleted and no longer work until I charge it with my portable charger, wall charger, or FM modulator charger. It's an issue I've definitely never experienced before with any iPod. I will probably have to manually replace the battery myself with a newer battery I already have to alleviate this astonishingly enraging problem.
I guess this is what I get for buying used.

Everything I expected

I finally took the plunge to purchase an iPod Classic 160GB model after years of putting it off. I've had a good deal of mp3 players (especially grey market or international models) so there were features I had grown accustomed to that had me hesitating. I wanted large capacity. I like to have all my music (or most of it) wherever I go. I wanted a simple interface. Decent sound is important but the music I listen to isn't "designed" for the most pleasant of auditory experiences. The iPod has all of these features. It's exactly what I need. Not exactly what I want but that's life. What could make it better? For one, it should act exactly like a hard drive. 160GB in my pocket should be more useful than just a music player which also digresses into another possible feature: the ability to upgrade the drive itself. I knew this ahead of time when I purchased the player but it's a point that needs to be made. Proprietary formats/designs only hinder customers. Apple, for all that it has done to make computing 'easier' for mass market consumers, continues to try and control the way they use their products. Another point on that, music organization on the iPod and in iTunes is definitely not as flexible as I'd like. I'm a nerd when it comes to my mp3s. I want them organized in such a manner that there is a minimal amount of folders with the maximum amount of organization. Creating a folder for every single artist (regardless of how many songs of theirs I have) only makes for lengthy searches through the menu. I'm happy with the way the iPod performs according to Apple's design. There's nothing here that says poor manufacturing or hurried design. I just know that it could be better.Lire l'avis complet...

Holds a Boatload of Tunes. Audio Quality a Slight notch below Gen 5 Wolfson DAT

Holds a lot of tunes and the iPod is easy to use once you've mastered iTunes.
Sound quality wise (subject to personal preferences) is just a tad below the Gen 5 models with the Wolfson chip.
All in all a great value at used eBay prices.Lire l'avis complet...

For an iPod its pretty nice

First off thin easy to hold and comfortable. Second picture quality is great but not perfect optical resolution like the iphone 4. The headphone are loud enough to out power any noise in the room. Loud or Crashing. There is a slight sound of the HDD drive inside turning on and click and then turning off. Nothing major more like a whisper. The screen is big enough to manage many songs and videos quickly.
I will probably have trouble filling the 160Gbs with only music but it could be easily done if you have thousands of songs and 60 good quality videos. It holds my library and makes it portable and manageable
Will play and play before it needs a charge. Even with the screen on full brightness and always on. At least 6 hours

I love the iPod no glitches the only reason I gave it a 4 star is due to the resolution of the screen. Compared to the iPhone 4 it hurts to look at.

Ipod works great, the cord does not

The cord that came with this ipod is not a designated Apple product. I plugged the Ipod into my laptop using the cord and the ipod never synced up. I tried the same thing with a regular charger and the Ipod still didn't recognize it was plugged in. I looked online and found out the charger was an off brand from china. I was disappointed with this part of my purchase.

Other than that the Ipod works with my other charger that I luckily had from my old Ipod, so I can still use it.

Great capacity, but sound quality is flat

I've had this for a couple weeks now and I really do love it. The Genius feature is fantastic and fun and gives me new stuff to listen to from my library just by picking a song I'm in the mood to listen to. Just make sure you connect your ipod to your computer because you have to turn Genius on through iTunes for your ipod before you can use it.

The only downside to this ipod is the sound quality is noticeably flatter than any other mp3 player I have ever had. I'm not saying the sound quality is bad, it's just as full and rich as my old Zune or Zen were. It's a little disappointing and I'm hoping they do something to fix it. I've tried using the equalizer but it doesn't really help much. This heard both through my headphones and my car stereo so I know it's not just a problem with my listening device.

Overall it's a great player and the storage capacity alone is a great reason to buy it. Just be forewarned that the music quality may not be up to par.

Great product

After about 10 years, my iPod Classic died. It made me sad. I'm a fitness professional and loved it because I could download my entire fitness CD library onto it. My daughter has one, too and she bought a refurbished Classic on eBay years ago so she suggested I do the same. I'm so happy to have a "new" iPod Classic, again. Lire l'avis complet...

iPod Classic is like 'Old is Gold'

Despite its discontinuance, I consider this as one of the best products launched by Apple. Its huge disk size 160 GB stores my entire collection of around 19,000 songs. Its inter-phase is simple and it is easy to use. This is my second iPad Classic -- the first one lasted almost 10 years.Lire l'avis complet...
