I received this CD yesterday and cannot stop listening to it. Twenty-some years ago I thought, "Yeah, OK so U2 is a great band, but there are so many other bands out there that I like better." I just really couldn't figure out why the young kids were so smitten with Bono and U2. Since that time, the other bands have disappeared from radar, yet U2 lives on...even bigger than before! I began really listening to them in the early to mid 90's, and my appreciation for them has grown by leaps and bounds. This particular CD is, in my estimation, a musical masterpiece! The hard-driving percussion is prevelant in songs like "Mysterious Ways", and the resounding bass gives the rock aspect of some of these songs a "kick-butt, get up and dance!" flavor. It is hard to stay still while listening to them!! They are so versatile and hang with the best of them, singing their slower, mysterious and melodic ballads. May be the best rock band ever...and I am a 54 year old woman who has been exposed to ALL styles and genres of music imaginable! The fact that Bono has used his celebrity to further philanthropic efforts is an added bonus, and definitly adds to his appeal. Get the CD! Even if you have them digitally.

I've been a U2 fan since 9th grade. It's hard to pick one CD, but this one may be my favorite. Joshua Tree got me through high school, but this one gets put into my car stereo more than the others.r>"Acrobat" never gets old. All the songs are good. I cannot believe it's been 20 years since this thing came out.
I went to the 360 tour last year, and with Bono's back injury (and rescheduling of some dates), am going to see it again in Chicago a second time.
I know we are a "download one song at a time" generation now, but I love hearing the songs on the CD in the original order.
Thus why I went back and picked up a few CD of songs for which I already own the digital versions.Lire l'avis complet...

A defining moment in 90's rock music; a required listen

Most records come and go, the bad get purchased and forgotten, the mediocre make it to the radio for a while. The good records make waves and garner reviews, but the truly excellent are frozen forever in history as landmarks, and Actung Baby is no exception. I have seen this album on nearly every best of list imaginable, from Rolling Stone, to VH1, from "best albums of the 90's" lists to "best albums of all-time" lists. Why? Because not many albums have the sound and intrigue of this one. While other bands were cutting mainstream radio singles, U2 was crafting something adventurous and inspired, when they had everthing to lose. After the overwhelming success of The Joshua Tree (1987), the band released the less accepted Rattle And Hum (1988), and were in need of something to bring back the Joshua Tree listeners. Rather than create perfect pop, and staying away from the politically-inspired music of their earlier albums, they blended electronic sound and guitars and distortion into a polished masterpiece while everyone had their backs turned.

Songs like One and Mysterious Ways struck a nerve with many listeners, becoming instant classics in the U2 catalog. Songs like The Fly, Acrobat, and Love Is Blindness have dense musical journeys that form an album that is picturesque and exciting, few if any albums before or since have been as inventive or ambitious.Lire l'avis complet...

Another U2 classic!

I bought this album the day it came out. I was in high school and I remember being disappointed. I had expected more of the same old U2 that I had come to love. I expected anthems and hymns and that solemn dignity that made U2 seem sacred and holy in my naive sanctimonious mind. What I got was something I didn't expect. Achtung Baby still has the same elements that have always charachterized them, but there was something darker in the sound, and something sinister that I couldn't put my finger on. I didn't understand it then, but I do now and I love it. Perhaps more than everything that came before it with the exception of WAR. This is the third time I have purchased this exact CD. When it was released, a few scratched years later, and now on ebay as a result of an unexplained loss. This U2 CD is all that you love about U2, the love ballads and upbeat pop songs all on one CD. You will not be disappointed with your purchase. f Personal favorites, such as "Wild Horses" and "Tryin' to Throw Your Arm Around the World" are mixed with the more well known, "One" and "Mysterious Ways". Achtung baby U2

What I like about U2 is their ability to metamorphose successfully between their various albums, there is a gulf of difference between say Joshua tree [my favorite U2 album], and this album, or indeed any of the others. Whatever they do, the net result is always something that grabs you, original, emotive and inspired. This CD is no exception, worth buying for the ballad "one" alone. Overall there are no real duds here. A VERY good album, not quite their best but rates only just short of excellent, certainly better than the previous "rattle and hum", and at parity to the subsequent "zooropa". Check with your seller if the album your interested in is the digipak[cardboard cover] or a normal Cd as its available in both versions.Lire l'avis complet...

One of U2's finest albums with lots of hits on it!

U2 is is one of the most consistant contemporary bands out here. There is notthing to dislike about this particular title and the 3rd time I've had to buy it. Every song is good here and has at least three songs that everyone across the board will like such as, "One," "The Fly," and "Even Better Than The Real Thing." Just the best album ever!

I put this album on and get lost! Every song is fabulous! My 15 year old loves U2! If you want to relive the 90's just give it a listen. I go back to when I met my husband and all the fun I had in my 20's (and heartache). A beautiful record!Lire l'avis complet...
