Great Board For Updating An Older Computer

I bought this as a drop-in replacement for an old board that has been in near constant use since about 2012. The original board has been rock solid reliable, but with time and use I felt it was time to replace it to be on the safe side. I'd like to get another 8 years out of this system if I can. Besides supporting new OS's, You can run Windows XP natively on it and it even has two standard PCI slots so if you're doing a retro build it's a great option and you can build a real powerhouse for those older games and apps. With two PCI-e 3.0 x16 slots you can still run a fairly powerful modern graphics card as well, so there's flexibility, and there's two PCI-e 2.0.x1 slots for whatever. Just watch your video card choice if you are doing a retro build as the drivers may not work for newer cards. There's headers for 8 SATA drives - 4 are SATA II, and the other 4 are SATA III, so you can hook up an SSD and get 6.0 GB/s. No NVMe support but hey, it is an older board. If you're in need of a socket LGA1155 board in general this is an excellent choice. All the cooling on it is passive so there's no fans to fail. As long as your case has good airflow just set it and forget it. There's plenty of clearance around the CPU for a large aftermarket heatsink. If you're an overclocker there's plenty of options in the UEFI for manual or built-in overclocking so you can fully utilize that older CPU with the "K" behind it that you're not sure what to do with anymore.

The only complaint I have is the placement of the CMOS battery. If you have a larger graphics card that takes up two slots you will need to remove the card if you need to swap the battery out. The board is also a bit flexible so you'll need to be careful handling it when installing if you have a large heavy heatsink on the CPU.

It may be a bit pricey to buy one new for a board that's rather dated, but it's one of the best from its era and can put new life into an older PC or make something usable from that collection of spare parts you still have. If you don't want to take my word for it this board has a "Tom's Hardward 2012 Approved" badge right on the box.

Best in Socket? I feel so!

I upgraded a dell xps because the stock board is horribad. Welp, this motherboard is amazing. Considering there's maybe 4 choices out there I could find, this was the one I went with due to bad reviews on the others. I paid a good sum, but am not at all displeased. I'd give this board 10 eggs if I could, the performance scores are so much better with this board over the stock mb. I saw boards from other manufacturers, and either the chipset wasn't as good, or the reviews were bad. This one seems to be the go to for the 1155 chipset. The LED Error indicator is a neat function, but I've yet to ever need it. Once I installed and hooked everything up, no problem from the start. I didn't even need to enter bios to change anything to get started. However, after reinstalling windows on my HDD due to this hardware change, I did tweak some of the settings. This brings me to...

The only 'con' I found, wasn't really a con, just personal preference. The bios window is strangely arranged. It almost feels like it was set up with touchscreen applications set in mind. I guess I'm used to a standard feel and look to bios, and was just a bit confused by this set up. I've had asrocks in the past, and don't remember this being their goto. Perhaps, I'm nitpicking, but like I said, this isn't a con, I just found it a bit outlandish and confusing. Once you find what your looking for, everything else seems to be in standard format, it's just the main layout I suppose that's odd.

Over all this is a solid motherboard and the features are great. The Z77 on this thing makes it a must for gaming. Don't waste your money on anything else. If you have a socket 1155 cpu, and need a new motherboard, or the best motherboard. Snag this one up. As far as quality goes, it's a large cut above the rest.

Basically Functionally, USB3.0 header damaged.

I received this used z77 extreme4 motherboard. it said used, I understand it might have some cosmetic damages. Seller says the condition can be seen from the pictures. However, the USB3.0 header pins are bent and does not work. I can not tell the pins are bent just from the pictures that seller provide. Lire l'avis complet...

Nice choice

New old stock exact replacement. Fast enough and kept everything else. Plug&Play back in BZ! It's a really well designed board. With an i7 cpu at 3.5 GHz and a newer graphics card Nvidia 7060, I'm satisfied. Lire l'avis complet...

Great, affordable Z77 SLI motherboard. Best bang for your buck!

This is a great and affordable SLI motherboard. The overclocking features of this motherboard are simple to use and relatively easy to understand. It is also compatible with older 2nd generation Core i7 CPU's as well as the 3rd generation. It was easy to overclock my 2600K CPU to 4.5 Ghz. Installing all the components was easy as well. The only con I had was that my speakers make a static pop noise every time I boot into Windows 7 and turn off the computer. This didnt happen with my last motherboard that was replaced by this one. After some research, it turns out that this isn't major problem and can be common among other motherboard/speaker combinations. Other than that, this was a great purchase!Lire l'avis complet...

Solid motherboard with PCI slot support.

Good value for the price. The one thing nice about the product is it still has PCI slots which I needed for some older instrument cards.

As rock Z77 ROCKS

I got this motherboard to run with my AC on third generation CPU. I have been so impressed with how fast and stable this month but has been over the last several weeks. I have not had one single issue with reliability or work performance. I would definitely recommend this motherboard for anyone who needs a 1155 socket.Lire l'avis complet...
