Like the Film Itself, My Interest Spirals Downward

The title of this film refers to the length of the relationship between Wall Street investor, John Grey, (played by Mickey Rourke) and an art gallery employee, Elizabeth McGraw (Kim Basinger). The two meet, coincidentally, and begin a passionate, 9 1/2 week relationship.

The film depicts them in a variety of diverse sexual and erotic acts, including the infamous scene in which John teases Elizabeth's body with ice, while she's blindfolded; a scene in which John spoon feeds Elizabeth different kinds of foods while her eyes are closed; a scene in which Elizabeth has sex with her partner in a rainy alley stairway; and Basinger's now famous striptease to Randy Newman's "You Can Leave Your Hat On."

Unfortunately, such intensity inevitably spirals downward, as John pushes Elizabeth's boundaries toward an emotional breakdown. He frequently manipulates her into getting what he wants during sex, and sometimes abuses her, when she unable to resist.

Like the movie itself, I began being interested and aroused; but as the manipulation, and abusiveness, accelerated, I decelerated. I hate to seem sentimental about a film that is not sentimental, but when the people disappear, and the sex acts become all there is - it bottoms out.

have somebody attractive over to watch it; just don't play it all the way through.

A Very Strange Movie About a Relationship-Mostly Sexual

Mickey Rourke shines in this 1986 movie as John about a very sexual relationship between two people in New York City. Kim Basinger plays the beautiful Elizabeth, an art dealer who at first seems to have the upper hand but soon falls under the spell of John.

Already having been married and divorced, Elizabeth is still no match for John, who seduces her over and over--each time in a more challenging and sometimes more brutal way. She gets angry with him time and time again, but with his charms and presents she always comes back for more until.... In a last ditch effort to save the relationship, John opens up about his past. But does it do any good?

This 1986 movie belongs to Mickey Rourke. He is amazingly handsome and charming. Kim Basinger is extremely beautiful and very erotic. But it is she who announces what we know from the beginning from the title of the movie: This relationship is doomed; it can only last 9-1/2 weeks. She finally says the ultimate: "We both knew it was over when one of us said 'Stop!'"

This movie's closest relative is "Body Heat," which to me was far superior. Both are erotic movies but the plot in "Body Heat" is much better. This movie, however, has its redeeming scenes. I am especially fond of the chapter when Elizabeth wants to be treated like one of the boys. And the food scene is good too. And the scene with ice. I could go on and on.

Watch this movie for a visual treat. But don't expect much more. And this movie is definitely not for children.

Sexy, hot romance with a twist... manly control..

This movie takes the viewer on a journey into a hot, sexy romance that turns into an obsessive power game... ending the relationship after only 9 and a half weeks of steamy excitment. Kim Bassinger has never been more delicious and beautiful. Micky Rourke plays a mysterious, handsome bachelor that knows how to get what he wants from women. He is intrigued by her but gets a perverse thrill by using his talents to make her angry and then uses his charm to be forgiven for it. He uses money, control and manipulation to get different responses from his new lady and takes the game a little further with each passing date. When he uses her as a plaything to get a thrill with another woman, he has gone too far and she has to draw the line... Although her love for him is genuine, she knows that he can't love her in the way she wants or needs... The detached bachelor ultimately realizes he has genuine feelings for her....hoping his games will keep the romance alive but it's too late...the spell is broken forever..Lire l'avis complet...

This movie should be 4 hours long

I consider 9 1/2 weeks a masterpiece because it took Elizabeth McNeil's' book that would shock many, and from that created a lovely movie, truly mesmerizing.
Mickey Rourke's performance is UNBELIEVABLE-subtle, seductive, mysterious, and so adorable, and it has enough close-ups of his face to truly inform the viewer. The exact same goes for Kim Basinger. This is one hell of a lot more than a sexy movie-it is a study in well-defined characters, where issues of love, control, domination, and submission, and also loss, are blended in a beautifully photographed, tight screenplay, with beautiful music and songs. It is not a simple movie, and not a "feel good" movie, and it does not contain even one boring scene.Lire l'avis complet...

A Sensual Experience for the Mind, Body, and Soul

This movie is one of the most beautiful "mature" movies that you could every find. For someone who enjoys romance, exotic erotica, and their fantasies fulfilled, but is not into the smut that many movies portray...this is the movie for you.

At the same time...the Cinematography is OUTSTANDING!!! Plays with lighting, shadows, colors, camera angles...it all comes together in a very beautiful movie!

When you know what the movie is about can be turn on...

This wasn't a deep movie but I did enjoy the way John's character unfolded and his softer revealing side at the end. Elizabeth's submissiveness wasn't appealing to me and I would have enjoyed a more feminist woman. I felt that the story line was shallow. The cinematography was well done and from an arty point of you enticing. I think Last Tango In Paris was deeper, also beautifully rendered, exceptionally well acted and much more powerul.Lire l'avis complet...

One of the best couple's movies that money can buy!

One of the best erotic couples movies that can be had. No porn but as highly charged and emotional as anyone could ask for. It set the bar for all others that followed and there have been many that tried to copy it. Micky Rourke's best work and Kim Basinger's hottest! The heat will ignite both men and women but there is enough emotional connection that the ladies will love it.Lire l'avis complet...
