4 Psychos for the price of one

This 4-Movie Midnight Marathon is ideal for anyone who wishes to own all the Psycho sequels for the price of one single DVD. Because, let's face it, the only movie here that is really worth paying for is 1983's Psycho II, a worthy sequel to Hitchcock's masterpiece. Considering that no slasher film could possibly be as powerful as 1960's Psycho, this is arguably the best sequel anyone could have made. Sadly, it's downhill from there for the rest of this marathon. Anthony Perkins is delightful as always as Norman Bates in Psycho III (1986), but ultimately the film is not much more than a standard 80's slasher film. The TV movie spinoff that followed, Bates Motel, from 1987 is actually surprisingly entertaining, despite the absence of Perkins (the film features the infamous motel, but takes place after Norman's death), some odd changes to the well known back story, and a script that is closer to a Scooby-Doo episode than a horror film. Last, and least, 1990's Psycho IV - The Beginning, another TV movie, with Perkins returning merely to serve as narrator, as Norman Bates tells the story of his life in a film dominated by flashbacks of the killer's youth, in which Bates is played as a teenager by a horribly miscast Henry Thomas. However, while most people who are curious about the Psycho sequels might want to consider buying Psycho II alone, collectors will note that this is possibly the only way to own the two TV movies included in this set.Lire l'avis complet...
