2112: A must have journey for any Rush fan!

This is what hard rock is all about. If you are familiar with the band because you've heard some of their more popular songs being played on FM radio then this detailed review is being written with you in mind. If your a Rush fan (I've been for nearly 30 years) then you already not only know about this remarkable music, but you've probably owned it in some form, or currently do now. 2112 is the band's 4th studio release, it first was released in 1976. The first track is also the title of the cd, 2112 is a 20 minute long epic journey that showcases some of the best conceptual lyrics of any album at any time in the history of rock music! The percussion provided by Neal Peart is stunning and flawless. The vocals and bass lines are given forth by Geddy Lee in such a strong and steady fashion while the lead guitar work is fashioned by perhaps one of the most overlooked guitarists of all-time...Alex Lifeson. This epic masterpiece is easily in almost every Rush fan's top 3 when asked to name their favorite studio performances. The songs that follow the journey that starts with 2112 are often overlooked too. In fact, you may never hear any of the songs contained in this time-tested release on radio unless you have a local FM station that purposely fits them into their set-list (at least that is what I've noticed through the years out of my local classic rock stations here in Ohio). After the title track the listener is taken on a journey through "A Passage to Bangkok" then onward through lyrical references of the old tv classic episode's of Rod Serling's "Twilight Zone". After this we are taught "Lessons" and listen as the mellow, acoustic guitar tune with introspective and emotional lyrics "Tears" gives us the calm and zen pace that then picks back up on the finale "Something for Nothing". This last track is certainly one my favorite Rush songs. I personally tend to really enjoy the lyrics of Rush, I also appreciate what messages they are trying to convey to us, the music lover. On this last track Geddy implores us to realize this as a fact of life as he belts out the chorus lines..."You don't get something for nothing, you can't have freedom for free. You won't get wise with the sleep still in your eyes, no matter what your dreams might be." Simply put, this is one of the most stout releases by a band that has been playing for 35 years. I really believe if your a fan of rock music, this cd is a must have in your collection. Buy it, you won't regret it!Lire l'avis complet...

Rush 2112

Rush not only makes the most interesting music with original lyrics and wonderous chord changes, but what makes this CD a unique masterpiece is that it also foretells the future. Rush takes on the millenium with a reference to the new testament, 2112, it is the chapter where Jesus himself throws a tantrum for the practice of gambling in the place of worship, the Synagogue. Also, you may be aware that it is prophecy for the world to end on December 21, 2012. The lyrical content, written by Neil Peart, the professor on the drumkit's vivid imagination, is about priests in the future who will not accept the discovery of the guitar, a stange wonderous instrument.Evidently, left over from after a holocaust or end of the world as we have come to know it. Any type of social freedom will be excluded in the future based on rules set forth by the priests who will assume control of a universal federation.Thank Gd for the freedom of music!Lire l'avis complet...

Not just any old review

2112 is the first Rush album I ever bought (I won't say when though). My copy is from their backyard on another label. After the first part of the title suite however there was a deep scratch my cat couldn't even have put there (he knows better anyway, mind). I tried two places to get the disc resurfaced but it was too late. I might get another copy in future but to find an import doesn't happen too often and the place I bought it from no longer exists where it did (won't say if it was here or somewhere else). Now I have to find the LP to boot though when I buy those here, I try to stay within US soil due to high P&P costs compared to CDs.Lire l'avis complet...

Brilliant

I'm old enough to have purchased this album when it first came out in the mid-1970s. I'd never heard of Rush before that. After listening, I was converted into a Rush fan. This is their best early album, and perhaps the last album they did without the use of all those synthesizers. It also seems to be their "break though" album. The two or three albums before this went generally unnoticed. Shortly after its release, I saw them in concert (they were still playing small venues at the time), and they performed almost the entire album.Lire l'avis complet...

Great purchase, low price

Great product, quick shipping (even internationally).
My only problem, which I don't think was specified is that the disc doesn't come in the disk case.

If this was actually specified in the product description, I'm sorry for my mistake and I'll change my rating to 5 stars.Lire l'avis complet...

Nice sounds from Rush

Rush is one of the most original rock band in the world. They don't play easy melodies neither poor rithms... 2112 isn't not different and goes on a kind of experimental album from starting of the band. Nice sounds from Rush!Lire l'avis complet...
