Seems to have fixed Code P2422 and hard starting after gas fill up - Mercedes W204.

Around 3 months back my Mercedes C300 W204 wouldnt start after filling up at the gas station, it finally started after pushing the gas pedal to the floor. A few days after my check engine light came on and using an inexpensive scan tool I had 2 codes saying something along the lines of Lean Bank 1 and 2. I erased the codes and everything seemed fine, until again having trouble starting after getting gas. It wasnt consistant, happened maybe once out of getting gas 4 times. Then recently the check engine light came on and the code was P2422 "Evaporative Emission System Vent Valve Stuck Closed". I went online searching Mercedes forums and decided to replace this purge valve. I try to use only OEM parts though the price of a new Mercedes purge valve is a bit high, so I found a used purge valve where the seller had very good reviews and bought it, was less than 15 bucks shipped. Replacement was fairly easy, disconnect the electrical socket then pull the valve up off its mount, I used a pair of pliers to squeeze the hose clamp ends together while using a small metal pick to push the ends apart. I was able to re-use the original hose clamps by just pressing the ends back together with the pliers. Started the car and after a minute or two the valve starting ticking, very loud, which I believe means its working. The car runs great, no issues filling up and there are no codes when i checked after a few days of driving. The only thing I noticed is the ticking is very loud, i can hear it when sitting inside the car when im parked, and it seems to always be ticking. the replacement valve is an earlier version, looks very similar but there are slight differences when paired next to the original valve. i never noticed a loud ticking before, but i wasnt really looking so it could of and I just didnt notice. Also I hooked up a 9 volt battery to the original valve to see if it will tick and it didnt, so i sprayed carb cleaner into the holes a few times, mixed it around then dumped it out, let it dry out overnight and then it would tick again when the 9 volt battery was applied to the valves connectors. Maybe it just needed to be cleaned. I'll keep the original just for a spare in case anything happens with this "new" used valve i installed. Lire l'avis complet...

Great price for this genuine valve!

This valve is responsible for closing when you turn off the car. If the valve stops working and is stuck open then when you fill with fuel the fumes from the gas tank will run straight into the engine and cause it to not start because it is running too rich.
