TomTom Rider 2 Motorcycle GPS

I got this in preparation for a long trip. I like that it's rugged and fairly easy to use.

I have a 12V outlet on my bike near the mounting position so I'm not concerned about the unit's battery life. I was concerned that the Bluetooth headset might have battery life issues but it's never failed me yet - even when I was 8 hours in the saddle one day.

Since I was the second owner there was one thing that was a bit weird. Trying to clear the previous owner's 'Home' location was an issue - it kept going back to his place even when I was trying to over ride it. It was only after I figured out that he memorized 'home' as a set of coordinates (and not an address) that it did finally clear. This was not in the Owner's manual.

Also, I'm more used to Garmin's format in that when you reach your destination, it'll tell which side of the street to look. This is not the case with the TomTom.

Another thing I like about the Magellan format (which neither TomTom or Garmin do) is I LIKE warnings of coming moves/turns in fixed distances (2 miles, 0.5 miles and now). Getting this information in inconsistent distances means I have to pay more attention to it (and less to traffic around me). I miss that about my old Magellan 360.

Overall, the TomTom has been reliable and has performed well.

Easy to use, life time maps, the price is good and water proof.

Its a very good unit, I was looking at several others including the Zumo. I had to think about what features I would actually use vs just having a bunch of features and pay more just to have it. The Rider is perfect for my needs, both compact and easy to use.

The only issue was sometimes at the right angle the screen had too much glare would wash out and was not readable. I thought I made a mistake and should have gotten the Zumo. But my friends have the same issue with his Zumo so must be something common to Moto Gps's. I tried using a glare reducing screen did not help much. It is only in certain situations so no big deal. Having the Bluetooth makes this a non issue.

Epic Fail GPS and mount.

Day one first trip with this unit riding across the mountains in WA on a 7000km round trip, a week ago. Slight rain shower causes GPS to lock up and touch screen to be inoperative. Five days of non use indoors at destination and unit starts working again. It's now six hours into return trip and 400km ago the mount broke on a rural SK highway. GPS is in the ditch somewhere. This unit would likely work well planning pub rides on sunny days from the safety of the garage. It's a complete failure on a KTM Adventure, and I didn't even go off road (off pavement) this trip. 2500km to go, glad I brought a map. This is a product NOT seller review. But the product is a resounding failure from square one. Does anyone want a power cord?Lire l'avis complet...

Not nearly what I expected for the money.

I have a couple of Garmin car style gps units but I decided to try this TomTom Rider because it was half the price of a Garmin waterproof unit. I am unimpressed. I use a Scala Rider G4 headset with it and turning the volume up all the way on both I can barely hear the instructions and I tried several of the voice options. The directions are ok but it just says turn right, no street names. The screen is no harder to see than the Garmin car units I was using but it is smaller so that makes it a bit harder. The written turn instructions seem to be better than Garmin's. One thing it is way better than Garmin at is updating the maps online. That was trouble free. I still recommend the Garmin units though over this.Lire l'avis complet...

Nice reliable GPS

Works great for my rides. It does have easy access to new information updates via the internet. NICE FEATURES .

Don't Buy It

This GPS is extremely outdated, and the Bluetooth is not compatible with anything modern. One of the worst purchases I've made. I bought it new-in-box, I did not assume that it was out dated. If you're thinking of buying a motorcycle GPS, then do research first.Lire l'avis complet...

Awesome product! Great Value for the money.

Excellent GPS. Would recommend to any cyclist. Works well. Paired with my cell phone as well as my helmet audio system. Can't imagine that it could have been easier!

Good value

2nd version is better than the first. Lacks a speaker, but that can be rectified relatively inexpensively with a bluetooth to headset converter.
