Lunar rejuvenated

This is more a preview of the PSP version , but I will frequently make comparisons with the old PS1/Sega Saturn version and the older Mega CD / Sega CD version. I have or played most of them.

It is a very traditional RPG, so people who are used to previous versions or the old old Final Fantasies or Dragon Quest should have no problem identifying with it. The story is pretty touching for my taste, using / reusing age old themes found in many games / films but with certain twists to its mythology.

Of the 1 hour I have spent with the PSP version, it appears to be based off the PS1/Saturn version, reusing the high quality anime cut scene. It does appear slightly washed out for our HD generation (or at least on the PSP).

The only other slight drawback is the slight delay in loading between certain areas. The game doesn't really tell you about it thus you may think that the game had hanged.

This probably hints at either the poor output of the SOny hardware or poor optimisation. Hopefully if it is the former, then the PSP2 will hopefully have the grunt to deal with it. So be warned.

The in game graphics have been redone / redrawn. The 3 head proportion Chibi characters sprites have been done away with, in its place comes a more correct proportion but still slightly squashed. Locations too have been redrawn as well.
I have mixed feelings about this as the Chibi version was very pleasing.

The biggest surprise has to be the opening act which tells of a prequel only hinted at in previous versions. The feeling is akin to watching the Opening act of the Watchmen movie, which was hinted at but never illustrated.

The main reason for getting this is to be able to play a great RPG on the go. Hopefully the opening and improvements thus far is a taster of what is to come rather than the only selling point.

It is unlikely that this will set sales chart alight as the crowd that best appreciates it have probably moved on. But if nostalgia is tugging at your sleeves and it is affordable for you, you can't go wrong with this.

It should also be noted that part of the attraction of this work is the sound track and songs. It is still one of the game sound tracks that can be listened and enjoyed without knowing the source.

The limited edition comes with a soundtrack CD but I cannot attest to the contents yet until I have enjoyed the CD.

Great throwback, redone....again

Had the original by working designs. New premium set is a great throwback to the PS1 collectors edition, but small package on PSP

Gaming Goodness!

An updated classic. While sticking with the original game almost completely, the developers added some new scenes. If you have never played this game and enjoy retro gaming, this is just the thing.

Lunar Silverstar Harmony

It's a combination of rpg game and a story of romance vs power. It also had an awesome sound themes.
