"Ha Ha! Look, the giant chicken is Boba Fett!"

Family Guy: Something, Something, Something Darkside was released December 22, 2009 on Blu-Ray and DVD. "Something" is the second installment in the Star Wars Parody Series and follows the story line of Empire Strikes Back. For fans of the Family Guy series this is the long awaited sequel to Blue Harvest which followed the New Hope story. With Chris as Luke, Lois as Leia, Peter as Han, and Stewie as Darth, the cast sets off in another Seth MacFarlane adventure.

Let's cover the good parts first. The best part of this fifty four minute movie is the animation. Any fan of Star Wars or Family Guy will appreciate how much work went into animating "Something". Added to this is the excellent John Williams musical score and MacFarlane at times copying Empire almost scene to scene and shot to shot. It's obvious that McFarlane and his team are fans, as is also obvious from his numerous Star Wars references in the regular series. The additions of Mort Goldman as Lando Calrissian and Ernie the giant chicken as Boba Fett were also nice touches. There's also some laugh out loud scenes like the Cookie Monster attacking Luke on Hoth. The writers taking shots at Empire's plot holes was also brilliant: "we're evacuating into outer space with literally infinite directions to flee however we have decided that our transports will head directly towards the fleet of Star Destroyers."

Now for the bad, or at least questionable. Carl, the convenience store manager, is a pretty annoying character to begin with and for me was a horrible choice as Yoda. The attack on Echo Base by the Imperial Walkers was also a big miss. Pregnant Walkers, Walkers wearing Crocs, no thanks, no thanks. Calling the Ion Cannon "giant boob nipple gun" was the saving grace of that sequence. Also, some of the profanity seemed forced, the racist jokes unneeded, and the homosexual theme is really getting tired. The extras include commentary by Seth Macfarlane, among others, some table reads, and Family Guy Fact Ups which get pretty annoying pretty quickly. The included digital copy is a definite plus for I-Pod users etc and is only inlcuded in the Blu-Ray edition and not the standard DVD release.

Something, Something, Something Darkside is funny without a doubt. Macfarlane and his team did another great job bringing fans of Family Guy and Star Wars another movie. But with every laugh out loud line there's another line that just falls flat. "Something" is absolutely worth seeing but after watching it you get the feeling that it could have been so much better.

Can't go wrong with Family Guy for a cheap laugh or two.

You can't go wrong with any of the Family Guy episodes on Blu-Ray. I enjoy watching the series and the Star wars episodes are just as enjoyable as the rest of the show. The Blu-Ray is nice, but since it's a animation movie, it's difficult to compare to anything other than anime. It's not a "Disney or Pixar" movie, but it's very good quality and entertaining to say the least.Lire l'avis complet...

5/5 would recommend

Very funny, great movie! I am not huge on the Family Guy series in general, but I absolutely would recommend any of the Star Wars parodies from Family guy to a friend. Especially a Star Wars fan. It is a very funny take on the original trilogy and is spot on with added humor.Lire l'avis complet...

It was awesome!

Good movie, much better that the edited one you can find on Hulu. Probably the best of Family Guy's bouts with its favorite Star Wars movies, with plenty of in-moments for similarly-minded fans and the typical Fam Guy flair for those who aren't so versed it its sci-fi.Lire l'avis complet...

Funniest Family Guy special yet!

Loved everything about it. Ditched the stale old jokes and came up with all new material to use. On key with the real movie. Seth MacFarlane is a genius. A+++++++

Great purchase!

I bought this for a gift, and I always get a little nervous about purchasing movies on eBay, because they might be scratched or the image fidelity may not be of good quality. However, this DVD had no scratches and we viewed it perfectly!

The force is truly with this guy1

Not as good as first part, but it's still Family Guy meets Star Wars.

It is good, not as funny as the first one but any Family Guy should check it out. You won't be crying from laughter but it does have funny spots.

Down right hilarious

I am a big Star Wars fan and have not seen a parody as funny as the ones done by the family guy franchise. This one is by far my favorite and plan to watch it over and over.
