Great Goddamn Game

This is a upgraded version of Star Ocean on the Super Famicom that Nintendo and Enix thought wouldn't work here in the west in 1996, but they were wrong. Fast forward to 2008 and you get this lovely gem for your PSP. It's essentially Star Ocean: The Second Story's game engine from the PS1 with the First Departure's story line plugged in. A MUST to play, at least once, for Star Ocean fan

I've first played the star ocean 2 for the psx. I finally got this game and got to play it. It was really interesting to play this game. And in the pros and cons section below: Yes, I'm aware that this was originally a SNES game. Opens up some things for Star ocean 2 and 4 players.

Cons:
Very short game
Bonus dungeon was a bit of a letdown
Not many different endings
Not many free slots for new chars to join (I was forced to have 6 char slots used, leaving only 2 slots open in the end)
After some voluntary events, one character leaves
Rather high enc rate
Character art
Only ONE character is able to call for bunny, if you don't have this character, better luck next time
No your own transportation vehicles such as an airship

Pros:
Very much like the Star Ocean 2 for the psx
The story BEFORE events of Star Ocean 2 is unraveled here

Good, but could use some clarity

Generally, the game is pretty fun to play through. It lacks some clarity as to the story line--where to go, what to do. I take my games kinda relaxed and tend to exhaust them on the first run through (take 80 hours to play a 30 hour game), but I got lost a couple of times and had to resort to the internet for help. There is a lot of backtracking. That would be my biggest problem with it. However, the soundtrack is fun and not completely monotonous. The anime vignettes are fun, and the story is clear and moves along pretty well. Overall it is a lot better than other RPG's that I have bought for the PSP. Worth buying.Lire l'avis complet...

Though the graphics arnt what I'm use to im getting used to it these games are awesome just like 3, 4 and 5

Absolutly love this game

I loved this game ever since I played it on the Super Nintendo. And now the game has been remade so I can finally get to meet Erys (Ioshua's little sister). They added Welch to the game as well. What started off as a Star Trek knock-off turned out to be a great game.

PS this is one of the few good psp games on the market. And definitely the best Sci-Fi/Adventure/RPG for the psp.Lire l'avis complet...

a must have for rpg fans

Star Ocean the first departure is a traditional rpg for the psp. This and indeed the second one (star ocean the second evolution) are a great example of rpg's done right. While you will not find anything new to experience in these games they are tried and tested. The story is rather predictable in both. The graphics are exceptional for its time and for the psp. As usual there is atleast one voice actor you want to strangle in the hopes that it will bring on puberty! all in all this is an rpg that shouldnt be missed by fans of the series or genre.Lire l'avis complet...

Awsome oldschool game with a twist. Great story and cgi while keeping it simple. Also the dubing is really good also, I cant remember the last time i played a game that filled me with anticipation. Highly recomended! Cant wait to finish it so i can play the second.Lire l'avis complet...
