Fallout 3

Out into the Wasteland Rating Excellent

The basic premise of the story is tried and true Fallout: Independence and the outside world are thrust upon you for one reason or another and you are left to sort out what you ultimately do. The big difference is that this time it is for personal reasons rather than some "for the greater good" motive. This gives your character a much more open venue to take care of things as you wish. I also like the fact that you get to participate in small parts of your life before adulthood.
So Much to Do Rating Excellent

Bethesda always seems to do a good job including side quests that have some value to them. If you only do the main quest you end up missing at least ninety percent of the game, not to mention there are a multitude of places to explore and loot. Pick up this game, and you are in for an expansive list of possible things to do.
I Feel Like Taking a Walk Rating Excellent

Travel is much like The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion where, via the overhead map, if you have been there before, you can immediately travel to the place you want to go using the "fast travel" system. I am a little sad to have the fear of random encounters when you are fast traveling. Random encounters are still there when you first have to discover an area though so I can't complain too much.
You've Got Your VATS in my FPS Rating Excellent

Not being great at First Person type games, I can say that the VATS system is an extremely welcome part of the Fallout 3 battle system. For your information, VATS stands for Vault-Tec Assisted Targeting System. It allows you to stop the action and use your action points to target a specific area of an enemy's body. I have to say that it is a genius way to keep fans of the turn-based targeting system of previous Fallout games from going ballistic.
Who Forgot to Put the Brains in My Friend? Rating Average

There is some good news and bad news about the companion system in Fallout 3. The good news: it is much like the original Fallout. Dogmeat is back and you have your choice of other allies ranging from a Super Mutant to a Brotherhood of Steel Knight. The bad news: it is much like the original Fallout. You have limited to no control over the actions of your companion. You would have thought that Bethesda would have at least used the Fallout 2 version as a basis of what works. Instead, you are basically forced to babysit your companion and make sure it doesn't rush straight into the middle of a firefight and get itself blown to bits.
Bottom Line Rating Excellent

There is nothing really bad about this game except for the companion system which is just frustrating. Despite that, it is a really enjoyable game that has an engaging main and side storyline that will keep you entertained for hours. Go out and get it.

Fallout 3- different style, same great universe

Bethseda reimagined the Fallout universe with Fallout 3. No longer can one scroll their screen along with their character in isometric view, now you must have a 3rd or 1st person view. But, that is not necessarily a bad thing. It is different, however it allows one to zoom in and truly appreciate the detail of the game world. It can make it difficult to find every enemy and item, though, as it does not have the highlighting feature of the previous games- though one could use the VATS system in a limited way. The VATS system is essentially the remanent of the previous Fallout fighting system. You take a turn (albeit time is still moving slowly) to target a specific area and you use AP. It seems really cool, but it does take time. Overall the other facets (quests, characters, story) match the previous Fallout games in quality. If you have played Oblivion, by the way, you will already be familiar with this game's mechanics.

A drawback is the buggy performance of the game yet to be resolved by patches. If you reach an area and the game freezes it is very likely to freeze again in the same spot when you retry. Two recommendations: 1)try to reach the area by a different route or time, 2) SAVE OFTEN! Because of this buggy behavior I cannot give the game a great, without the flaw I would though. Basically, if you like the Oblivion mechanics, the Fallout universe, and have patience for bugs I would recommend this game.

Great action adventure!

The game by way of graphics is amazing, those with a 1080p TV will be amazed at the detail and all around grittiness of "capital wasteland." Game play is quite innovative with the introduction of V.A.T.S. and the myriad of weaponry that one would expect to find in a post apocalyptic wasteland. However for those expecting a pick up and kill video game, where all the best weaponry and abilities are easy to come by be where. The game can be just played and beaten but to truly enjoy the game and make an interesting and strong character, a little planning and reading of the booklet and guide are encouraged. For the need to think ahead i have chosen to give the game a good rating because it may not be for some. However, i find myself playing the game over and over still discovering new things and places. And now there are expansions!Lire l'avis complet...

Fallout 3 sets a new bar of excellence

Graphics: Breathtaking 9/10
Sound: Great – 8.5/10
Gameplay: Spectacular – 9.5/10
Replay Value – High (for a single player only game) 9/10
Overall – Near Perfect 9.5/10

Please note: I have never played any prior Fallout Titles, and this is from a n00b prospective.

Graphics: Breathtaking 9/10
The graphics are make you look twice – When you first exit the vault and see the landscape, you think to yourself “what next”? The graphic interface, use of PiP Boy and the movements really show that Bethesda took the time and care to make this well worth your hard earned money.

Sound: Great – 8.5/10
The sounds, music, effects, and voices take you immediately into the game. The time specific music, the radio channels, and the voice acting are all A+. The reason for the slightly lower mark is the repetitiveness of the radio, some of the sound effects, but overall, a lot of time, and thought, went into putting in effective music, voice acting and emphasis, and surrounding wasteland. The best, yet simplistic feeling is when you first turn on this gam for the first time, and all you hear is the old 50’s radio sparking on with the tube. Well done.

Gameplay: Spectacular – 9.5/10
Smooth animations, huge world design, and interactive and smart A.I. This game can be streamlined to do the main quest, or you can help the citizens of wasteland in their personal affairs. The single player game takes a lot of chances, but succeeds, in making the player make hard choices and customizing the game to their own path. Some find out too late that it is important to make hard choices to choose which attributes to build up. This aspect alone warrants multiple play times.

Some critics and players are commenting on the ending (no spoiler), but I must say that for the amount of customization a person can have in this game, it goes right along with the story.

Replay Value – High (for a single player only game) 9/10
Even without multiplayer, this game has replay value with the limitless ways you can play as – via good, bad, neutral, thief, etc. This did not feel like an RPG to me, and was well done to the point that I am on my second playthrough.

Overall – Near Perfect 9.5/10
I am not a fan of RPG’s, nor long drawn out games over 30+ hours, but I was swept away in this post apocalyptic wasteland. This holiday season is rough with the shear amount of great games, and this is definitely in the Top 5 for contention of game of the year.

This would normally be a game I would run from, but I rented it, and then bought it. It is so engrossing that others will want to watch you play and help you make those hard choices.

The game is not perfect, but close to. The story flows, as with the action, and it makes you feel as if you were there with your character trying to survive.

It has elements taken from genres such as RPG, puzzlers, action-adventures, but is not pigeonholed into this experience and to say it is an RPG is gives too little credit. This is an experience that should be played by any hardcore gamer.

A fun game with hours of game play.

The game has hours of game play, a large world to explore, and many quest to accomplish. You get to decide on the out come of your character, if he or she will be good, bad, or neutral; all depending on the decisions you make throughout the game. There are a lot of weapons and armor to chose from during the game play. You can find most of it or buy it from the vendors.

One thing that I liked from the start of the game, is that once you discover a place, you can immediately select the place on your map and fast travel to it. Some other games you don't get this ability until further in the game. This fast travel is necessary because the quest have you zig-zagging across the large world to complete them.

The 2 parts that I dislike most about the game, is the foul language and the graphic scenes when your killing someone. Yes, I know that the game is rated on the case and it is rated accurately but some of it seems very unnecessary to me. I wish this game, like a lot of other games; had an option to turn off the foul language and graphic scenes.

Even though this is one of the more enjoyable quest games I've played in a while; due to the 2 parts that I dislike, I don't think I'll be purchasing the newest game in the series.

If the game had an option to adjust the graphic scenes and foul language, I would have given it an excellent rating.

BEST EVER!!!

PROS:
- Great presentation with a lots of details
- Well achieved post-apocalyptic scenarios
- Huge detailed cities and landscapes with a lot of freedom to do pretty much whatever you want>- Every decision you make affects how the world around you reacts
- Classic Fallout story that doesn’t disappoint
- Interesting combat modes
- Great animations and effects (specially the gore stuff)
- Leveling up for perks is a lot of fun and becomes addictive
- Lots of cool & creative weapons
- Long single player campaign (around 25 hours that can be expanded to over 100 with all of the side quests and they are fully re-playable as an evil or good character)

CONS:
- Some minor bugs & glitches
- A little more details in the characters would have been good, but they are ok
- No multiplayer, but hey! Fallout never had one so just contemplate the greatness of its singleplayer.

*Just as a WARNING, this is a Role Playing Game and not a First Person Shooter, so don’t except Halo-like action, its different, but equally enjoyable.
*Another warning on this game is that it is not suitable for kids, the dialogs and goreish action is for mature gamers.

OVERALL THOUGHTS:
It is hard to compare this game with first 2 games, as the gameplay mechanics are a bit different, but even standing in the shadow of its predecessors Fallout 3 stands on its own as great game. You’ll immerse into the best post-apocalyptic world ever made

You must have in mind that the developers of this game are the same guys from The Elders Scroll IV: Oblivion, and at first you might feel like playing a modification of that game, but after a while you realize that Fallout 3 is completely unique and in a lot of ways better than Oblivion.

Fans of the series will most probably love the return of the post apocalyptic RPG trades and for new comers the games takes a little time to get used to, but it eventually grows on you in a really nice way and you’ll enjoy all of the huge amount of gadgets, weapons, quests, side quests, characters, humor, enemy dismemberment and complete freedom that Fallout 3 offers.

It is definitely a must-have for hardcore gamers and a serious contender for “game of the year award”. An instant new classic for all gamers, just as its predecessors.Lire l'avis complet...

Great game

For the game coming out in 2010 it definitely has it's fall backs. Some glitches and you can't go everywhere or interact with everything, but for the price, you can't beat the quality. The game is overall very good. It's got great game play with tons of little details in the game that makes the game unique. I have a lot of fun playing it and for it being 5 years old, it's not bad. Very fun game and very addicting.Lire l'avis complet...

Hours of Entertainment

Fallout 3 quickly made it's way into my top five most favored game. I have played it non-stop since I got it which was Christmas of '08. I have played all of the games in the fallout series and this one tops them all. The storyline is amazing, the graphics are quite good, and the freedom you have in the game is epic. The thing that makes this game better than the rest in the series is that you can choose between good and evil and the entire game is effected by it, INCLUDING the ending of the storyline. I have played it over a few times and experience something new every time. I love to explore on Fallout 3, there is so much to be found. Many hours of entertainment. Although, the downside for me was that the graphics were slightly difficult to get used to, after about an hour after I started playing I would get HUGE headaches, still not exactly sure why but that lasted for about the first 2-3 weeks of playing it. Due to the headaches, I give it a four out of five rating, but the game itself is still amazing and I highly, HIGHLY recommend this game.Lire l'avis complet...

Awesome and rare FALLOUT promo

These nfr promo copies of fallout 3 are rare complete games that were mailed to reviewers and other media outlets before the games release in 2008. There are never many copies of these promo discs printed and due to the popularity of the fallout series they are becoming much harder to find so definitely scoop one up if you can... it should come with the case and artwork, a small manual that just has the controller layout on it, and the game disc which is white and will say promo nfrLire l'avis complet...
