Guitar Hero 2 versus 1

Now that GH 2 is taking the world by storm, I've gone back to play GH 1. On first glance, you may think it's the same game with a new setlist, but GH 2 is actually an improvement over the first game in a lot of subtle ways. Firstly, there are more total songs in GH2 AND you can play 2 parts for each song, so the replay value is significantly higher. Also, the 2 player aspect allows you to play either the 2 parts cooperatively or straight out play the lead versus the other player, in addition to the mode from GH1 where you just play different parts of the song back and forth between players. The 2 player mode on GH2 is considerably more fun.
This game isn't really a graphical powerhouse, but there are more details included in the second game, in 2 ways. First, there are more venues to play at, and they are more fleshed out with more personality and more going on (though the basement level from the first game is classic). Secondly, there are more characters in GH2 and most have 2 outfits which fit their personality, including the necessary metalhead Lars Umlaut!
You'll also notice subtleties that improve the quality of your gameplay, such as purchases from one difficulty level carrying over to the others so that you don't start from scratch each time. There are more guitars, and more skins for them. Your band scores are tracked with the quickplay scores instead of seperately. It's just altogether a smoother, more well-thought out approach.
I'll admit that I like the setlist for the first game better. The second game has more variety, but is missing the feel of playing a lot of necessary classics that the first game has. Also, GH2 is a notch harder on all difficulties, across the board. Thankfully, it has a practice mode which the first game sorely needed.
All in all, I'd say look online at the song list for each game. You've gotta love the songs, cuz you'll be livin' with them. But if you don't favor one game over the other based on that, pick up the second one, it's a better experience. Then, if you get addicted to it like me, go back and buy GH 1. By the time you master it the third game will be out and we can all enjoy that!

Better than air guitar, this game is family fun!

My family loves this game. There are several different characters to use and songs to unlock. You can play career mode or just for fun. The seletion of songs is great as well (From Joan Jett to Red Hot Chili Peppers to Boston to Megadeth). I bought a guitar controller seperately and the only drawback is that if you want to buy Guitar Hero 2, none of the guitars work with it except the one that comes with that game. So if I wanted to get Guitar Hero 2, I would have to purchase the controller with it, which I feel is a waste. Other than that, I have no complaints. I really do love Guitar Hero, I can play it for hours!Lire l'avis complet...

Guitar Hero - A "must have" for any GH fan!

I believe this was the first Guitar Hero ever to be released. To me, the fun of playing the game far outweighs the cons. CONS: There are not as many features on this game as on later versions of GH. (There is a 2 player option, but no pro-face off, and score breakdown options are not available. Also, there is no practice option.) These are minor compared to the fun you will have playing these songs. PROS: ALL of the songs are really fun to play. I can't say this for some of the later versions of GH and Rock Band. As for no practice option, this game in general is much easier to beat than any other version of GH. For anyone who likes GH or Rock Band, this is a must have!Lire l'avis complet...

A first that set off the series

Although in truth there are better games which are done in better style with better feel. While this game is arguably more challenging than other guitar hero games, it features songs which you can't find on some of the other games; as you would expect from the first they took a heap of the good stuff and put it here.

Because this is the first of the now infamous series, it has a few flaws but they are made up for by it's song choices.

Definitely worth a play, but not as good as GH: II in my opinion. One case where the predecessor isn't the overall successor.

Guitar Hero

Guitar Hero was always my second favorite simulation game. My first favorite is DDR since I started with it first. But, it doesn't mean I don't like to pull out the GH Guitar and jam to a couple songs. The 1st Guitar hero I thought was pretty well done. The reason I'm giving it a 4/5 is because there aren't many songs and the hammer-on & pull-off aren't as good as in 2 and Legends of rock as well as Rock the 80's. The characters are well designed and the songs are always fun to play over and over again. Overall it was a great game, considering it was the first one.Lire l'avis complet...

The First Guitar Hero Game on PS2

I say this product is good and not excellent because it is not as good as Guitar Hero 3. The graphics aren't as good and the points for playing are not up there with the 3rd game. But I really think for this being the first one out there, it is really good.

I bought this game for my son because it has the song Iron Man on from Ozzy Ozbourne. It is a fun game and I do like that the songs are all different on each game.

One of the best games available!

This game ROCKS!

I am a 36 year old mother of 6 children and I am completely hooked on this game! All of the kids love it (ages 14-7. I also have a 3 & 2 year old that have to have a turn occassionally, but they strum and whammy while someone else works the fret keys). My husband and I love it. (I rule.) We even invited my brother-in-law over and sent the kids to bed early so we could play the game by ourselves. That's just how fun it is.

No musical talent is neccessary to play this game. I have never had a musical instrument lesson in my life (unfortunately) and neither have any of my children. Definately helps strengthen hand eye coordination.

My husband and I even feel like we are more "in tune" musically now. While I'm sure I couldn't pick up a real guitar and play it well the first time, I do feel like I have a better undertanding of reading music and judging tempo.

The only downside of this game is the price. It is steep, as most good PS2 games are when they first come out. But I got mine on eBay, slightly used, and bought a second controller on eBay too.

I'm going to pre-order my copy of Guitar Hero II right now!

Rock on!

Guitar hero is a rhythm game. Unlike Dance Dance Revolution where you dance on a Dance mat, or Drum master which plays with drums, Guitar hero features a guitar controller which simulates playing on a guitar.

Gameplay: You need to hit the correct chord buttons as they scroll on the screen towards the marker, while strumming the guitar controller. Gameplay is very fun and almost feels like you are playing a real guitar.

Learning Curve: Guitar Hero is easy to learn but hard to master. Advanced techniques such as the "Hammer On" or "Pull off" require lots of practice.

Music: Very good and addicting soundtrack which includes songs such as "Smoke on the water", "I wanna be Sedated", "Fat Lip", "Iron Man" and "I love Rock and Roll". Songs from artists such as The Ramones, Queen, Hendrix. Very fun to play the guitar along those songs.

Single Player mode: Career mode which you progress to larger and more crowded venues as you perform songs in an increasing difficulty and become a famous band. You also earn money along the way and unlock new songs, characters and guitars. Each character has his own special style.

Two-Player mode: This is one of the funnest modes, Each player gets his own notes to play and you play together while in the same time competing against each other.

Game is fun, addictive, and highly recommended. Only con is the Guitar Controller which makes it a bit expensive, especially if you need 2 controllers for 2 player mode. Also, the "Whammy" on the guitar controller is a bit fragile and can break- mine broke after just one month of usage and had to buy another (Instructions themselves warn about that- instead they should build it better so that it doesnt brake)

Excellent game - completely innovative and fun

This game is a brilliant composite of guitar playing, animation, and gaming. I love it. There are three skill levels for every song; easy, medium and difficult. Many are old rock favorites, and many are new. You can use a memory card to track high scores. After each song a newspaper headline story appears on the screen, telling you what percent of the notes you played correctly and how many notes you played correctly in a row, among other things. If you play very badly, the "audience" starts booing and the song is ended. Avoid that!Lire l'avis complet...

Original Guitar Hero for PS2

I initially played Guitar Hero 2 first, so perhaps thats my favorite. This game however was quite good. It has songs you would remember from the radio, as well as some others that were more specialty-oriented. The tracks are challenging, but fair when it comes to difficulty. However hammer-ons and pull-offs are difficult to pull off even in the easier modes. All in all the game is keeping me pleasantly occupied as I challenge expert mode and was a worthy use of my money.Lire l'avis complet...
