Good Port of a Great Game

While Battletoads may seem like a beat-em up when you first see the gameplay it's actually a trial and error platformer. With huge emphesis on the trial and error. While there are some beat-em up elements, you're mostly gonna be memorizing where certain platforms and obstacles are and not gonna be fighting all that much except for the boss battles. Now since I'm more into beat-em ups and not platformers this disappointed me a bit. But after playing it for a while it became very addicting very quick! But be warned, while I said this game is very fun, it's also very hard! This is not for the casual gamer but for the hard core only! I had to play through certain levels 20 times+ before I could memorize all the obstacles. But it is very satisfying to beat a level you've been stuck on for days. Oh, and there are 13 levels and no password system so patience will be tested here! OK now the one thing that just flat out ruined this ports for is the opening cut scene and ending sequence. The opening scene was REMOVED and the ending was cut in half! Now you play this game for weeks on end just trying to beat it and the lazy developers won't give you a decent ending? Oh well, at least I could look up the true ending for NES on YouTube... But it's not the same. Anyways if you want Battletoads with a good story, go for the NES one. If you want Battletoads with slightly improved graphics, then you're gonna wanna get the Genesis version. Overall it's an OK port. But if you get this one and beat it just to see the ending, well... You're gonna be really disappointed, trust me!Lire l'avis complet...

Battletoads

Battletoads is a beat-'em-up. And like all other games of the genre, criticisms or praise should be strongly based upon gameplay. Because it is a port of a NES title, only two buttons are required to play. There's attack (which mostly means "punch") and jump. There are certainly a good number of games out there that are able to pull off a complex brawler using a similar control scheme, but with Battletoads, what you see is what you get. The only other options besides "attack" and "jump" are picking up and using weapons, and committing a "dash attack." Another big aspect of games in this genre is variety in enemies, and while there does seem to be a decent amount of enemy types here, they tend to all feel the same. Punch them four times, and then go for the finishing shot. This can become a little repetitive. What keeps Battletoads from feeling stale is its variety of gameplay styles. The game occasionally throws a few specific change-of-view battles at you, and it features several "speed" levels in which you basically attempt to survive a large amount of oncoming obstacles. I found these very welcomed changes in pace/style, but they could also be extremely frustrating.Lire l'avis complet...

Classic and very challenging, Battletoads is VERY FUN!

I was in middle school when Battletoads became a huge fad in the 16-bit gaming days. While I don't recall what was so intriguing about the game, it was one of the few games that I remember spending most of my time playing. Perhaps it was the sheer difficulty of the game, which is indescribably hard! Or perhaps it was the style of brawler-type gameplay that was unique at the time in the gaming arena. Yes, this is another brawler-type game, much like Streets of Rage or Final Fight, however it is not without its element of other gaming genres!

Perhaps the hardest stage for me during my childhood years was one of the first stages: The racing stage! This is one of the many stages that made this game so unique. Anyone who has played this game will definitely remember the frustration (and sheer satisfaction) of completing this stage in one sitting! If there is one way to describe this game, it would be VERY CHALLENGING! I recently sat down to play this title, and I was surprised at how difficult the game still was! Considering the relative ease of games of the 16-bit era, this is something that gamers should pick up and challenge themselves with if they have a chance. Sure, the day of 16-bit consoles has passed, and how can you compare graphics and sound to PS3 and XBox360 titles? But any classic gamer should give this one a shot! It may be slightly hard to find, but it will be worth every penny!

A GREAT CLASSIC GAME FROM RARE

ITS A GREAT GAME FOR THE TIME THAT IT CAME OUT. THIS IS REMASTERED FOR THE SEGA GENESIS BUT ITS JUST LIKE THE ORIGINAL VERSION FOR THE NES. NOT A TWEAK AT ALL. SO NINTENDO SHOULD GET ALL OF THE CREDIT. IT IS A GREAT OLD SCHOOL BUTTON MASHING GAME.Lire l'avis complet...
