A MARVELOUS DVD WITH EXCEPTIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION ON THE REAL ANNA IN A SEPARATE DOCUMENTARY ON THIS DVD, ALONG WITH ORIGINAL TRAILER, AND ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. IRENE DUNNE AND REX HARRISION ARE MAGNIFICENT IN THIS 1940'S NON MUSICAL OF THIS UNUSUAL STORY THAT HAS ENCHANTED PEOPLE SINCE THE ORIGINAL BOOKS PUBLICATION. THIS FILM WAS VERY SUCCESSFUL WHEN IT PREMIERED,(AND THE PREMIERE IS INCLUDED IN THE ADDITIONAL PROGRAMS ON THE DVD), HOWEVER MOST PEOPLE TODAY ONLY REMEMBER THE MUSICAL VERSION WITH YUL BRENNER AND DEBORAH KERR. THE SETS, COSTUMES AND SCRIPT, AND ACTING TALENTS OF THE NOW FORGOTTEN IRENE DUNNE, MAKE THIS FORGOTTEN GEM A WELCOME ADDITION TO THE LIBRARY OF AVAILABLE FILM ON THIS STORY OF ANNA. BETTE DAVIS AT THE TIME WANTED DESPERATELY WANTED TO PLAY THIS PART, AND INDEED SHE COULD HAVE DONE A GOOD JOB, BUT AFTER WATCHING THIS IT BECOMES OBVIOUS THAT IRENE DUNNE HAS GIVEN ONE OF HER MOST MEMORABLE PERFORMANCES, AND ONE THAT WILL BE WELL REMEMBERED IN THE ANNALS OF THIS STORY. REX HARRISON IS CERTAINLY MUCH TALLER THAN THE ORIGINAL KING OF SIAM, BUT NONE-THE=LESS PROVIDES A FLAWLESS PERFORMANCE, AND MATCHES WELL THE TALENTS OF IRENE DUNNE. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED NON MUSICAL VERSION OF THIS NOW CLASSIC STORY. Great movie, obtained at a great value.

Not a bad Hollywood story.

Watch is one and before you watch the :" The King and I". Well worth your time. Good for all ages and time.

Heartwarming. True story.

The story is true and not hyped up with music and such. It touches your heart. I loved The King and I, but mostly as a great entertainment film.

The Best Version

Remakes and musicals can not compare to this original version of this story. Its a true classic. Rex Harrison was the King...no one could portray him as he did. No comparison.

Best of the lot

This on beats all the rest in the "King and I" movie lots. The vintage look and outstanding acting beats all. I decided to buy it just for that.
Outstanding in every way!
