excellent movie for the whole family

This movie is a must see or buy for the movie lover and love of old england. Patrick stewart is an excellent actor in this movie and neve campbell does an outstanding supporting role and lead. this was a wonderful book to read and the movie follows along with the book to a tee. I highly suggest this movie to families and movie buffs alike. This was hard to find on dvd though so make sure you look hard to find what you need. The canterville ghost would be great if they did a part 2 to follow up with the family and the remainder of the story. This was a bit of a downfall towards the end of the movie. The Canterville Ghost

I found it to be a very touching story. Patrick Stewart's was ideal in casting as the ghost and gave a splendid performance. His background classical training in acting made him ideal to quote/play from Hamlet and to play a 400 year old ghost. If you like movies with verbally abusive fathers you will love this one.

"Seen it - heard it before" story line where a disbelieving over reactive scientist father verbally abuses his daughter for more than an hour believing she's trying to scare everyone back to Indiana by creating odd occurrences in a scary old castle and fabricating a ghost whom no one can see except her and her two brothers.

In the end Patrick Stewart ( Sir Simeon The Canterville Ghost) is reunited with his dearly departed similar to the ending in the Disney movie, Hocus Pocus, and were led to believe after seeing the ghost, an abusive unbelieving father is instantaneously transforms into a positive minded, kindly natured, loving soft spoken supportive father to the daughter who in return easily forgets and forgives and they all live happily ever after.

Great movie

The Canterville Ghost is about a girl and her family moving to a haunted house. It is not a horror movie, it is more about understanding and acceptance. The girl is first frightened by the ghost, then angry with him and finally wants to help him find release. The ghost is from Shakesperes time and is played beautifuly by Patrict Stewart. The movie was made for TV so has some plank frames but they don't distract from the over all movie. I had seen the TV release and was looking forward to the DVD. I was not disappointed. Terrific retelling of a classic, at a price that is also terrific.

I have always enjoyed the old story of the Canterville Ghost, and even bought a copy to read on my Nook. My very favorite movie version of this story is not one of the old classics, but the newest "classic," which is the one with Patrick Stewart playing the ghost. Dirty Disc

The disc was not clean at all when it arrived. Worried it wouldn't play. After cleaning the disc properly it played ok.
