Great Landscape Lens

This lens was a great value from an honest, seller who can be trusted. I have found this Nikon 16-35 lens to be as pristine and like brand new as the seller presented it as being and that I had hoped for in a wide angle lens. It has been excellent for landscapes and if you don't get too close to the subject, it is good for those shots where a 24 mm lens just can't quite cover it all. But, I have also discovered that it is not the best lens for people shots when you are only 5-10 feet from the subject. There is what I think of as a distortion in perspective. When you are too close and using the lens at around 16-20 MM and your main subject is one person it can distort their face by making it too narrow, enough so that they do not look normal and it is immediately obvious. Other than that, I love this lens and have taken over 1000 photos with it of the Sleeping Bear Dunes on Lake Michigan's western shore including some truly beautiful sunset shots from a high bluff overlooking the lake, Ocean Isle Beach in North Carolina and beautiful landscape shots of the Smokey Mountains, all of which would not have been as dramatic with a 24mm lens. Plus, the seller continued to communicate with me via email answering every question I posed. Bottom line? I love this lens for landscapes and those shots where you are not too close. It's important to use it for it's design purposes and stick to more appropriate lenses for people shots and subjects like vintage autos or aircraft where you want the subject to nearly fill the entire frame. For those photos and with this lens set to 16-20 mm you will see some distortion if you are too close, unfortunately often necessary in crowds with people everywhere forcing you to be too close for your best shot. For those shots, if at all possible, I rely on my Nikon 24-85 and it's crystal clear images with very little observable distortion, at least to me as an amateur enthusiast. For professionals who rely on their work for income maybe they will not be as enthusiastic as I am, but for me, a dedicated amateur, I am very happy with this Nikon lens. Lire l'avis complet...

It IS an FX lens.

You must do an indepth study of Nikon's lenses to determine what it is that you're actually paying for. Nikon has lost many folks in the dust with their lens designations and descriptions. That's both good and bad: good because you have technical descriptions & versatility; bad because it's tedious to wade through it all. In the end, it's an education that can save you lots of money buying used lenses.

Nikon FX lenses are a real thing even if you can't discern between images shot with DX and FX lenses. And, there are several lists FX lenses online. My opinion is that there's no point in shooting a full frame dlsr without FX lenses.

Don't be confused by all the shock & awe of any lens with wonderful reviews and no pictures to justify the reviews: the proof is in what you see with your own eyes. Plan accordingly and look for authoritative reviews from the best photographers or the best forums. There's a reason FX lenses are more expensive. . . . and, they get pricey pretty fast. The Nikon AF-S Nikkor 16-35mm f4G ED VR Wide Angle Lens is worth every penny. But, buy it used.

Very impressive lens! Great value for a gold ring Nikkor

I love this lens. It is very useful and fun. Image quality is amazing for an ultrawide nevermind a zoom UW. It is best most versatile I've ever used. VR is a nice bonus for using as a walkaround lens, not as good as on a telezoom but still a nice option to have(it's VRII but has no normal/active switch, just on/off?). The build quality seems good considering how light it is which brings me to the negatives. This lens is big! I actually would not mind more weight, and would certainly prefer that it was not so long. It focuses very close but it is easy to cast a shadow from its huge length, especially with a flash if you're not careful. For my use the distortion is rarely a problem and easily corrected if it ever is. I Highly recommend overall it's fantastic and I go nowhere without it now, as a result the awesome & expensive 14-24 2.8 will prob be sold.Lire l'avis complet...

All I Hoped For

This lens has been recommended over and over by a long series of experts whose work I've admired for years. I finally decided to bite the bullet and found a nearly mint example here on eBay. I'll just say this lens is all I hoped it would be and it has filled a hole in my lens bag I was barely aware of. It has become one of two "walk around" lenses. Couldn't be happier with how sturdy the build is and how insanely sharp the images are.Lire l'avis complet...

Highly recommended!

I recently switched to the full frame Nikon D700 camera, and wanted a really good and versatile wide angle zoom lens. I researched this lens on 3-4 different lens review sites, and because the reviews were quite good, I decided to buy it. I can confirm that this lens is as good if not better than the reviews I read. It is very sharp, and has great contrast. It is not a light lens, but it feels and looks very well made.Lire l'avis complet...

Love the Nikon 16-35 f4 G with VR

I've been using the 18-35 f3.5-4.5G for several years. It's a fine lens and super sharp but has a lot of distortion which is of course easily correctable. However, the 16-35 f4G is a much better build quality, has VR which is so very nice in low light situations, and gives me a little more coverage. It's also has much less distortion. All in all, the 16-35 f4 just beats the 18-35 easily in most all shooting situations. About the only negative is the fact that the 16-35 is slightly heavier.Lire l'avis complet...

Very Sharp!

I’ve been using this lens for about a month now and have fallen in love with it. It’s light and easy to carry, the VR works very well, it’s fairly fast, and it is very sharp. Although it is a consumer grade lens it still feels substantial and solid. I can’t think of any negatives except for light falloff on the corners, but that is easily corrected in Photoshop. Best value wide angle zoom from Nikon

This lens kicks butt. Great focal length. F4 or higher is really what most people use wide angle lenses at so it not being a 2.8 lens is a non-issue.

Great lens if you know what you're getting

It's an excellent lens at the shorter half and really good the rest of the length. It's not small and light but it's smaller and lighter than any f2.8 ultra wide zoom. It's just a good buy.

Replacement for Nikor 17-35 f 2.8?

Not really a replacement for the 17-35 as it has a bit of warping on the edges. And I can barely see the difference between coverage 17 and 16 mm. But a more modern design with the SW and anti-shake make the f 2.8 vs f4 an non starter. Yeah ok I do like it!Lire l'avis complet...
