Count on Apple to make everything more difficult. Everyone other maker of electronics in the world seems to manage to design their products to use industry standard charging cables. But Apple has to use something different. It's not better, it's just different. If you use an Apple device and lose your charging cord, you are SOL unless you can get a replacement.
