Great value, especially for those of us who grew up with Nintendo and love it

Nintendo is always going to hold a special place in my heart. I grew up playing their games, and I I find their new titles fun as an adult. This is really my first console in years. I had gotten the impression that Wii was all about the sports games (because they seem to be all anyone ever talks about). However, I was pleasantly surprised to see Nintendo has a whole catalog of non-sports games suitable for kids or adults who like a game that isn't all shooting, blowing up, and massacring your way through an alien landscape. For this bundle in particular, I think Super Mario 3D World is lots of fun! I think it's a good way to ease into 3D style games if you grew up playing everything in two dimensions. The other game in the bundle, NintendoLand, is just okay. It has several arcade-style games arranged in a theme park setting. I think they'd be more fun to play with a partner than they are on single player mode.

The question I keep getting from all my friends is about the game pad. The games are largely still played on a television screen. The game pad is just a controller for the unit. If you're into more adventur-ey type games, it can be really useful for controlling inventories and things like that, but you can play most games with a regular controller. Even though it's pretty large, I actually find the game pad is pretty comfortable to use as a controller. Of course, you can also get Wii Remotes and Pro Controllers if you find the game pad too unwieldy for game play.

Also, you DON'T need a game pad for each player. I had been told that once before, but you can use several different styles of controllers together to play with friends. My only irritation is about the WiiU is that the unit won't play DVDs or Blu-Rays. I understand the older console did. That's a little frustrating, but not a huge issue for me.

Overall, I think WiiU is a great console for families or betweenys like me who grew up playing Nintendo games and who really like seeing Mario, Luigi, and Yoshi again. The games are a lot of fun, and the graphics have been great for me.

More of the same.

If you like Nintendo you'd probably get one eventually. I do and I enjoy it for the most part, but there's this one thing that I'm nitpicking on.

Lack of physical games in the package. I'm grateful that they didn't just pack a voucher for you to download the games, but I like physical game media, so that struck a sour note with me. Luckily the games are relatively small, and you if you update your wii u, you get an additional free game (or at least I did). Wii sports club.

I've also come to realise that the gimmicky gamepad is mostly a necessity after having almost lost it at a friend's house. It has crappy battery life to boot so sessions aren't as long as they could be without having the charger handy or alternative controllers. No bueno.

Solid console all around with a few niche games that will entertain you for hours, but if you prefered physical pack ins like me, this will leave more to be desired.

Very Good System with backup compatibility.

Very good graphics, not a lot of games utilize the power of the system. Setup time can take awhile but is well worth it. There are also quite a few quality great games. Would recommend new super Mario bros or Mario Kart 8 bundle instead of super Mario 3D world bundle.Lire l'avis complet...

One of the Best Nintendo Systems Ever Made

Let me first start by saying that I have owned all three of the 'next gen' consoles and the only one that has lasted more than a few weeks occupying the space under my TV is the Wii U. This console has been seriously underrated but the masses and it's such a shame. A lot of people wrongfully state that Nintendo games are just for kids. Well, I am not a child and I'm not afraid to say that I enjoy Nintendo games far more than those on offer from it's competitors. I am not one for ultra realistic shooters. For me, that just takes the fun out of gaming. I don't want something serious to unwind with, I want a fun, light hearted game that isn't afraid to add a little humour into the mix. Granted, the Wii U will probably not wow you with it's graphics, unlike the Xbox One or the PS4. Having said that, Nintendo games do look vibrant and colourful in HD and really benefit from the extra graphics boost provided here over the original Wii. The gamepad, whilst having a sometimes annoyingly short battery life (Approx 3-4 hours on one charge), is really innovative, adding a little extra to some games and also making it possible to play whilst the main TV is in use. Something that comes in handy when there are a few of you in the house. The real draw of the Wii U to me is the focus that Nintendo still maintains on local multiplayer. I live in a household of 6 people, all above the age of 18, and the ability this machine has to pull us all together of an evening is incredible. The only problem it presents is the arguments over who is going to be playing at any one time. Many a night has been spent having tournaments on Mario Kart 8 or playing Super Mario 3D Land in multiplayer mode. This is something Nintendo continuously gets right and seems to be neglected and missed out on other consoles. The Wii U has also provided hours of fun for online play. So far I have played Mario Kart 8 tournaments online and also enjoyed "Splatfests" whilst playing Splatoon. There is a distinct lack of voice chat with other players whilst playing online, however, this is actually something I prefer. You don't end up having abuse shouted at you by young kids, or even worse, adults who should know better, something that has been highlighted as a problem time and time again with online services on the Xbox One and PS4. Another added bonus is that Nintendo doesn't charge you to play online. Overall, if you want a games console that is purely about gaming and nothing else, with a line up of games that include some real gems that are unavailable elsewhere, then the Wii U is for you. Unfortunately there is a real lack of third party support from publishers for the Wii U. However, Nintendo has kept a constant stream of awesome game releases to keep its customers happy. I would recommend the Wii U to anybody as a console that is just as capable at keeping adults entertained as children and has the added ability of bringing people of all ages together for some good solid fun.Lire l'avis complet...

Good Deal

There were a few nicks, which was mentioned, but who cares about cosmetics when it just sits hidden in the corner? Shipped in time, plays great. Not a fan of Monster Hunter 3, honestly (Controls aren't fluid compared to most games I'm used to, but graphics were great). I play Mario Kart with pretty much everyone who comes over to hang out and it has replaced potlucks with Mario Kart pizza parties. I love Nintendo Land, but it's hard to get others engaged in it (Everyone else wants to play Mario Kart) or even to get them playing Mario Bros 3D.Lire l'avis complet...

Doesnt work properly

Its a great, fun game when it works. We turn it on to play as a family, and can't make it through 4 races (approx 3 mins each) before the console just shuts off. We've tried multiple positions to make sure its not over heating, made sure there is no dust by the fan. Sure, it said tested and works, as in it turns on. You cant play very long before it just shuts off on you. And its sold as is. I'd beware. Should have saved and bought new.Lire l'avis complet...

The kids are so glad

My daughter’s controller pad had broken on her Wii U, so I got her a new one for Christmas on eBay. She is 14 and hard to impress. She really enjoyed this gift and it works really well.

A fun last Gen machine

I was surprised how much fun I had with this console. Nintendo was never going to win a huge user base with this machine being a new console in between the 2 generations. Some games look amazing and are fun and the tablet controller is really neat and comfortable. Growing up with Nintendo its nice to have one hooked to the tv and this is unique enough to keep my attention. In saying this I also have a switch and know its a superior machine but you can really see what Nintendo was thinking in the Wii u and what it eventually became when tech caught up. Still a fun and interesting console would recommend for collectors and video game enthusiasts. Lire l'avis complet...

NINTENDO Wii U

i wanted to get 1 for the longest. They were pretty expensive, but I found a great deal on EBay. I absolutely luv it. Also my flat screen isn't HD but with this console hooked up, it is..I've been watching my Netflix & the picture & sound is awesome. I'm definitely going to purchase another one just as a backup in case I need it.Lire l'avis complet...
