Still one of the best point and shoot cameras in terms of convenience.
If you want a great point and shoot camera, for the Canon brand, the powershot a720 is my top pick for 3 reasons.
1. I hated the newer cameras because you can't just walk into most surronding stores and find a already recharged or correct brand ion battery. So what do you do if your ion battery fails? And if you travel, you have to worry about a outlet. You should know from your cell phone experience, it's battery life may last for days, but when the bar is short- where's that displaced charger?
2. Great pictures in most situations(remember we're not looking for a pro camera that shines in low light or shoots in the dark).
3. Convienence- it's light and not as costly as expensive pro-cameras. I won't shed too much of a tear if a friend breaks it or a thief steals it. Of course I'll miss it because It takes professional pictures and may contain my wanted pics. Other than that (as of now) you can find it off of ebay used for around at most $200. Yes, this powershot is rated better than the powershot A620 and A800. So be careful when you buy a any electronic device. Hubby's condition requires familiarity - we bought a 2nd A720
We've enjoyed the auto aspect of this camera. Photos are of decent quality, with good shots of dogs at play and even the macro feature has worked well.
What we haven't enjoyed is the sticking shutter cover which can occur in some Powershot models whether carried in a case or a large pocket. And we certainly hate the fact that the LCD screen is not a flip-out screen. It is harder to see the LCD in sunlight; it is more difficult to keep it scratch free when it is hanging from one's wrist - a second strap holder would have been nice in order to hang from one's neck.
What I don't understand is why Canon doesn't listen to it's users and take the best from this camera and then improve upon it. People look for this model used because it set a bar which Canon reached and topped in some areas and fell short in others.Lire l'avis complet...
A Point & Shoot Camera with a VIEWFINDER
Can use either the screen or the viewfinder. Takes readily available AA batteries, no expensive pack that needs to be recharged. Gets good, crisp action shots at soccer games. Optical 6X zoom for close-ups.

Canon a720
wearing bifocals, I needed to see if the view finder would help with bright sun pics when LCD screen is so hard to see. Very glad to find a canon that still has this option. I also look forward to seeing if turning off the screen helps to make the batteries last longer, but have not been able to use much yet. On macro,close-up lens sticks out quite a bit, and can see is exposed to damage along barrel and letting grit get in and scratch side. Easy to use
I needed a larger-size camera because of some carpal tunnel issues. This is a good size, and is easy to use. I took some outdoor photos, and the resolution was very good.

Great picture maker but not sturdy.
This was my second A-720. I purchased it used. As an avid amateur photographer I appreciate the manual controls for those unique shooting situations. However, its fairly quick automatic functions make it great for family snapshots too. Images are reasonably sharp, color is outstanding and distortion is minimal. I don't believe this is a very sturdy camera. Both of the A-720s I've owned had to be sent to Canon for repairs--at $100 for each repair! Main reason for owning an A-720 is having a camera that is compact enough to be with you all the time and manual controls for creative photographers.Lire l'avis complet...
A “Very Nice Canon Powershot A720 8MP Digital Camera” 2018
I've written a photo essay about my experience which is too long to include in this space (but I can provide it if requested). In short, the product is great, just as described, The camera arrived with a dead lithium battery which powers the Date/Time indicator, but once I determined that that was the problem, I inserted the one from my old camera and it worked fine. The Canon A720 IS is a wonderful camera (I've now owned three) and it is a fantastic value. My main reason for preferring it is that it has a viewfinder (among other superior features, e.g., 6X zoom, 8 MP) which is not available in other cameras in this price range ($200 when I bought it new 10 or more years ago; $350 in the US now). I've used the Canon A720 IS for over 10 years and it performs great as a point and shoot camera. I used to use several SLR Nikons and many Nikon lenses but found I just didn't use the lenses. Canon PowerShot A720IS Digital Camera
My wife gave me this same model of camera for a gift and it takes great pictures. I now have two and use them both quite often. It is simple to operate and quick to respond to magnification and focus. With the different lenses that you can purchase seperately, there are unlimited possibilities which you can use this camera for. The memory cards can be found almost anywhere and the camera is very easy on the 2 AA batteries which it uses. The camera is small and fits in most pockets if that is how you wanted to carry it. Canon Powershot "A" line cameras are outstanding value for the buck
I have owned several of the "A" line of Canon Powershot cameras. Every one of them was outstanding. good battery life, easy download of pics,very quick cycle time for next pic. great size and really nice picture control abilities from such small and low priced cameras. Just what I needed to use on eBay and everywhere else.
The neighbor had the same camera, so I knew what I wanted when I went shopping. I bought this camera because I needed a digital camera with removable media card (SD card), a very close-up lens, and a reasonable telephoto lens. The LCD display is large enough with good resolution to hand the camera to others in place of a printout to view images. The size, weight and form fit comfortably in the hand, but not so large it won't fit in the pocket. When using it for close-ups the setup is done with a few button pushes as opposed to fumbling through a display menu. Important functions are just a button push away. Some features are setup through the menu and locked in as a default, and as with any digital camera, there is a learning curve you have to follow. Being able to push button the most used features is the right approach.
The only negative feature is that common with all digital cameras in the power requirements and the need to keep a supply of batteries on hand. Rechargeable batteries are a better approach, but why not a solar cell array.Lire l'avis complet...
