This conversion distributor for the inline classic GM 6 cyl engines works perfectly. Its improved my old 53 trucks performance greatly. Follow the directions provided if you aren't all that mechanically inclined and its step by step and super easy. For any old time GM mechanic like me, this install took me a total of 20 minutes and I could probably do it now in 10 minutes. All you will need is to get an HEI spark plug wire set from a local parts store. I bought a set from a 1980 chevy truck V8. They are a little longer, but that doesn't matter as it just gives you a little extra room to route the wires. Run ignition on direct power to the cap where it states and thats all it needs. The power wire that already went to my original distributor fit perfectly. You can add an aftermarket Tachometer as well if your vehicle doesn't have one. Make sure you follow the directions well in regards to the alignment of the ignition rotor where you take out the old distributor and re align the rotor correctly when you put the new one in. The vacuum advance needs to be pointing in roughly the same direction as the original. I set it a little more advanced than original and it literally fired up in 1 crank as thats what it needs with an HEI. Previously, the truck would take 20-30 cranks to start when cold and 10-15 cranks even when it was hot to get it started. Now it starts in 3 cranks cold and 1 crank when its warmed up. I'm extremely pleased with the conversion and upset with myself for not having done this 3 years ago. Be sure to buy the correct distributor for your model as they are sold for various engines and years. The one I got fits the older GM inline 6cyl and fit right it. Not that these old trucks are fast, but there is a noticeable difference in power and it definitely accelerates well thru 2nd and 3rd gear now so its for sure faster. If and when I ever own another old classic chevy car or truck, I'll do this every time. For now, I can't wait to drive my old 53 Chevy truck on my days off. Thank you!Lire l'avis complet...
