Sony MDR-NC60 is a Great Buy For The Buck...... IF You buy them used.... (Note To Reader... this is a repeated review)

I am a videographer buy trade. I use Canon camcorders ( XF300 and XLH1a camcorders depending on the assignment)... I have been using Sony MDR- NC5 for years and years ( and I love the NC5 headsets ). Recently, I have been noticing that I have been having trouble discerning the "ambient audio" ie.. concert or wedding reception... and the audio that is going into my camcorder in very loud environments. That's where these NC60 headsets shine over the NC5 headsets. It may be as simple as the NC60 headsets encompassed your ear (go over the entire ear lobe thus reducing "ambient noise influence"... NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH ELIMINATING AMBIENT NOISE..... You still have to know what sound is coming through your camcorder and what is "live". This is important to me because I really need to know if my audio coming into the camcorder is either too loud and distorted or if it is too low causing me to have to raise the audio levels in post editing which could introduce "noise" (aka hissing or air sound also known as "gain noise")......

But that's way to technical..... what you should know is that these are noise canceling headsets so they require a AAA battery to make them "perform at it's best". You don't "have to use a battery" you can use the headsets with or without AAA batteries (just like the NC5). Unlike the NC5 however, when you have a battery installed into the headset and you have the "switch set to on", you can push a button located on the headset that allows you to "monitor" the ambient (live) sound. It's like pushing mute on your headsets so you can hear what's going on around you. You will be amazed at how much of the "out side noise" is eliminated. I take my NC5 with me on airplane rides and I "Literally" don't hear the plane engine when I have it switched on..... The funny/fantastic thing about the NC5 headsets is even when there is "NO" music or audio coming through the speakers on the headset, it significantly reduces the engine noise and ambient noise still. The same holds true for these NC60. It is almost like when you switch them on, the "Noise Canceling" (NC----thus NC5 , NC60) feature even with nothing coming through (playing on) the headset plugs your ears for you almost like sticking your fingers in your ears or placing some foam ear plugs into your ears. Seriously, if you put you fingers in your ears it is almost the same as putting these heads sets on without any music. Now add music to the equation and LOOK OUT,,,, When I am on assignment, I have to tell the people around me that if they want my attention, they have to tap me on the waist or shoulder. I have be accused several times for ignoring people because I don't respond to them when they are speaking to me. I have gotten in the practice of simply letting the people around me listen to my headsets (before the assignment begins) and prove to them that all though it is hard to believe, I really can not hear them...... Hey...... It works for me..... You don't get referrals if they think you are "conceited or stuck on yourself"....

These NC60 headsets are very good for listening to all types of music too. I don't use them for that much but on the occasion that I do, they sound wonderful. Very clear, very crisp, very "full" sounding, you won't win any contest for the most bottom end (base) but you will hear the reverb and the thump of the mid base. I typically listen to "smooth jazz, blues and smooth R & B. All have different sounds and all are mixed/produced differently. I enjoy listening to my portable DVD player with both headsets also....

So somebody is going to ask or wonder why do I choose to use the NC5 on the plane if I feel that the NC60 is better... It's simple... The NC5 headsets "collapse" and fold up into a "small footprint" making it easier to place either into you coat pocket or into your portable DVD case where as the NC60 the ear pieces only twist to allow it to lay more "flat" but it does not collapse/accordion down to a small storage size. In other words when you are traveling heavy, space is a premium...

Bottom Line, if you buy these headsets used you can get a steal of a deal and a fraction of the cost of purchasing them new. What's the difference between buying these new and used if you get a "like new looking" pair of headsets. Save yourself hundreds of dollars and purchase them used and you could literally spend the money you saved on traveling with the headsets that you just bought... I'm just saying.... or maybe you could take the family out with the money you saved and become the "hero" for the day..... or may you can just save it since you were going to spend well over $200 for a pair of headsets..... How would you feel if you pick up a pair of these including the Sony carrying case for under $50..... I've done it and I feel great..... For that price you will have to be patient and be diligent in your search.. $85-$95 you can get all day long...

These headsets NEW would be 3.5-4 stars but at $50 they are a 5

Sony MDR-NC60 Headphone good value reasonable price.

The Sony MDR-NC60 is a nicely working over-the-ear headphone. Along with very good frequency response, the NR circuitry does a very nice job of dealing with background noise, and the Monitor feature allows listening to outside conversations, by muting the audio signal when using the headphone mode, or by momentarily disabling the NR feature when using without audio input. Comfortable fitting, lightweight, and a smaller, yet efficient storage case makes this a value-added, reduced price NR headphone.Lire l'avis complet...

Sony MDR-NC60 Noise Cancelling headphone review

I use these headphones for amateur radio operating activities, particularly radio contests in the CW (Morse Code) mode of operation. I find the headphones to be comfortable to wear for extended periods of time, provide excellent sound qualities with seemingly a little amplification of volume, although that may simply be due to the good noise cancellation for things like transmitter cooling fans and background sound in the house during radio contests.Lire l'avis complet...

Great product for studio and editing workflow

This is a really good noise cancelling headphone product. Even though it's an older model, it beats the newer Sony noise cancelling headphone on the market today. The newer noise cancelling does not cup your ears like this one. So you don't get as much noise cancelling as with this older prodect. So, this headphones are both comfortable and very good quality sound.Lire l'avis complet...

Sound, comfort and durability. AAA+

I wanted high quality in a headphone that delivers clear music and eliminated outside noise. I could not have purchased a better set. I would definitely recommend these to family and friends. In fact these were recommended to me by someone that has had them for a couple of years. Great music, great comfort, good value and durability. AAA+Lire l'avis complet...

Sony NC 60

this is not what i ordered. It turned out to be a very old technology with an external battery pack. I am very unsatisfied with the purchase and was misled. I have been away and will try to return it. It was not the NC 60 model as was indicated when I purchased it.Lire l'avis complet...
