Only negative is no viewfinder, but gives excellent images with the 40mm f2.8 pancake lens. K-01 review by long time Pentax user.

I have had K-1000 and ME Super Pentax film cameras and The K-100, K110, Q, K-5 and now the K-01 digital cameras. I like the live monitor features of the Q and the K-01. I use a TV monitor with the camera to compose images on the larger screen. I use a collection of Pentax and Tamron Adaptall lenses with adapters for the K and Q bayonet mount. I especially like the K bayonet mount because there are so many lenses available with this bayonet. The Shake reduction is as good on the K-01 as it is on the K-5, Q and K100. The menu's are very familiar as all my Pentax digital cameras use very similar menu options. For my images (Portrait and nature shots) I like both the K-5 and the K-01 but the mirrorless K-01 works better for my work because of the real-time monitor without having to move the mirror. One area where the K-5 excells is the ability to track Astronomical objects using a GPS accessory, another is the larger Pixel count. Perfect for those looking for this kind of niche camera.

I've used Pentax dlsrs for the past 7 years and have gathered an extensive line-up of k-mount lenses from M to DA* and limiteds. Currently I have a K-5 which shares a similar sensor with the K-01. Both have outstanding image quality for stills. The K-5 has pretty decent video quality but has huge files and limited control while filming. The K-01 allows so much more control and produces smaller, easier to use files, which is great. One thing I learned is the importance of shutter speed (not to be confused with frame rate) while doing video. Google it to learn more. This camera allows control for all: aperture, shutter speed, iso, exposure, focus, and frame rate.

Make no mistake, this is no pocket sized point and shoot camera. I bought it primarily for digiscoping and video. It is much lighter than any dslr, and a bit more compact. Focus peaking is another feature I was seeking for digiscoping and manual focusing for things like macro. While I love my k-5, this gem fills some gaps perfectly. And for the price, its a perfect back-up camera.

It is much more simple than the k-5 in features. But I don't need all those frills either on this camera. It is more than capable, adaptable, and usable. It gives me the manual and automatic controls I desire when I need them along with easily customisable buttons that make switching functions easy without having to menu dive too often.

The quality is top notch and seems rugged and robust enough (like all Pentax cameras) to last for years trouble free.

While some people scoff at the design, this camera is really in a class of its own. I am more of a functionality over design consumer anyway. It feels nice in the hands and most of the controls are easily accessible. It's size is contributed to the fact that it accommodates any k-mount lens from the past 40 years. This is a huge plus over size and design, for me. The lack of an optical viewfinder is if no issue to me since I plan to use it primarily in tripod setups where live-view is preferred anyway.

While this camera is not for everybody, it suits my needs perfectly and affordably with quality.Lire l'avis complet...

k-01 : nice camera for pentax users who don't want mirror vibration

I have a modified k1 body for near IR visible and near UV. i use it for micro/telescope use. I had a little diffuculty using it for regular snapshots because of color balance issues so i ordered an unmodified k1. The unit works great. I am thinking i probably want to use this new one for my microscope when i don't want any UV or IR spilling in. The advantage of using the K-01 for micro/telescope work is that there is no mirror vibration as i had with my other pentax cameras. Hi! It is the stylish and beautiful camera. It won't be simple to beginner to understand him, but it is possible to learn quickly. This my third K-01 camera body and yes the other 2 are still in use. This is a fantastic camera for serious macro photography.
