Garmin 2595

My wife and I are retired. We own / operate two cars. Each has a Garmin in its glovebox for those times when you need to navigate somewhere we haven’t been before. Garmin is so easy to use and 98% of the time right on target. It's biggest drawback is the TRAFFIC function. Even when programed to avoid rerouting around heavy traffic congestion – it has a mind of its own, and that is NOT a good thing. Best bet is to use Google maps, print out your route and have that hard copy as a safety net/ backup to insure against its traffic avoidance insanity. Particularly routing through New York City it is NOT to be trusted. In the wide open spaces of suburbia it can NOT be beat. I also have learned to remove the units from the cars during excess summer heat / excess winter cold. It will shorten the battery life big time. Smart phones running GPS / Google maps generally offer as good or better results, but alas . .I only own a dumb (read that CHEAP) phone! So, Garmin is my choice to get from point A to point B with the least hassle. I am hoping Garmin (which is a US Company) finally gets around to offering a hard wired – zero battery unit that can be mounted in the car and left there – no matter how hot / cold it gets.Lire l'avis complet...

Garmin Nuvi 2595LMT GPS

This is my first GPS so not a lot of comparison. It was easy to figure out. I do find it is important to try and know where you are going first using google maps or something as the unit can get confused sometimes. Like it thought I was on the frontage road instead of the hwy so it was telling me to do things that didn't make sense. Mind Blowing features, create a cheat sheet-VERY confusing at times

I just had the chance to use it in two different cities - Pittsburgh PA and Tampa FL. I am OVERWHELMED with all that it will do and created a cheat sheet that is PAGES long -because there is just SO much capability. I probably will not remember how to use 1/10th of it -but with ease it got me from Point A to Point B (still cannot figure out how to Save to Favorites) as they made some features that were SO EASY on previous models extremely complicated. The bonus on this model is the Pedestrian feature; so if you are traveling you can use in your car and also on your belt to walk around & get to the places you want to see. But extremely confusing to me to use vs. my 3 yr old model I had. I still recommend due to the screen showing you the EXIT sign to look for, the Speed Limit, etc - just need to spend a LOT more time learning the 10 basic steps which they complicated way too much - Saving something to Favorites SHOULD be SIMPLE - but so far, I've learned how to save Longitude/Latitude only...it's a start though. I would recommend to everyone THEN go through the online manual and cut & paste and create a smaller version of what you really WILL USE otherwise your head will spin due to the complexity & sheer volume of features.Lire l'avis complet...

This Garmin will amaze you with its speed and accuracy.

Anyone who has used GPS for the past few years know that Garmin makes the best unit. I've had 4-5 Garmins since 2005 (plus a Tom-Tom, NavTec and a (shudder) Magellan)and basic way in which you navigate the screens has been almost unchanged. This has changed in the 2595LMT. It has been taking me over a month to get used to it so I'm still in that awkward stage of not finding what I want but getting there eventually. The processor is blazing fast and it keeps up with quick turns with ease. It has the lifetime traffic update and will automaticly reroute you to the fastest way. In fact, I almost 2nd guessed it the other day when it took me off the X-way to a surface road... until I saw the sea of red lights where the traffic was backed up. It has the usual points of interest built-in and allows you to store destination based on "Where Am I?" instead of having to type in the address. The one disadvantage Garmin has aginst a Smart Phone and Google Maps is that Google Maps are updated continuously whereas you still have to pull the Garmin out of your car and let it spend the night (on your computer) downloading the newest map. Garmin 2595

I owned a few Garmins now and all of them had the triffic light camera which I got so use to so if you are looking for one that has that features don't get this Garmin. What I like about this one is the voice comand you just talk the address and it will come up with a section of address and you choose a line. I would like to get the others features like weather and live triffic view but don't want to spend the money and I don't know if it is a one-time price or a monthly fee. The app for Android devices don't really work it is useless I read all of the review and lots of people said it didn't work and I had to find out for myself and they were right about that. And I love Garmin GPS but lately I think that Garmin is slipping their maps are not accurate and up-to-date or maybe they can't keep up with Florida changing roads. Lire l'avis complet...

Great 5" GPS with a Bright screen and Advanced Features like Voice activated prompts

The nuvi 25xx series are the best of the Garmin portable automobile navigation products. Much better than the newer Drive series which is too complicated. The 2595 is at the top of the 25xx series and offers Horizontal as well as Vertical viewing. Best of all, they are programmed to understand your voice and accept voice commands.

The 2595 comes with ALL North America map, including all United States, Canada, Mexico and even some Caribbean Islands, not just regional US maps. The LM in the model number means that you get FREE lifetime updates for the North America map and there is enough memory in the 2595 to accomodate the FULL map updates. The 2595 also has built in Traffic. So you can use a Garmin Traffic charger and get traffic updates on the road. Even offers re-routing if there are delays on your route. The 2595, like other Garmin navigators, offers multiple spoken languages and keyboards.

The 2595 takes a microSD card up to 32GB. This means you can purchase maps for other parts of the world and install them, even several maps at one time, for example, Europe, South America, Asia, Middle East. And because the GPS Firmware is under 4.30, Open Street maps available on eBay are compatible with the 2595. These maps are NOT compatible with Garmin's Drive series so you have to pay a lot more money to get them from Garmin.

Disappointed

This Garmin sounds good, but it does not do good. Voice recognition for it is difficult. More often than not it comes back with the wrong address, not even close to what you ask for. The other problem is that when you use blue tooth the sound is horrible. The person you are calling through your phone directory can hardly hear you, and you can hardly hear them. You have to turn up the Garmin volume all the way to be barely heard. It also seems to have a problem finding addresses. It told me that I had arrived at a Hampton Inn when in fact the Inn was another ten miles away. This is not the first time it could not find an address. GPS usage has never been easier

I have had several Garmin GPS units but this is the best by far. It is easy to use, shows exits and turns well in advance and on split screens so that missing an exit is almost impossible. Perhaps the single best feature of all is the voice command. Now you can speak an address and the unit lists several choices by number. You then select your number (choice) and you never have to touch the unit. Occasionally, according to the noise level in the car, it may be necessary to repeat the command, but other than that, this is a great improvement in GPS voice technology.Lire l'avis complet...

Voice Command is Handy BUT NEED TO DO SOFTWARE UPDATE

Been using an old and reliable Garmin 1350 several years now and wanted to try a voice command model. Bought a used Garmin 2595LM and tried it. At first it did not work well and did not get ANY of my voice commands. I speak clear English and knew something was wrong. I repair computers and figured this unit needed a reset or something was wrong with the programming. I did a reset as instructed by the Garmin website but that did not work. I then did a scan for updates and it found a problem with the software as well as newer maps.
After installing and rebooting (it will prompt you) it worked like a charm. Every voice command is correctly done and works faster than the old 1350 I'm used to. I recommend every Garmin you might own to be updated.

Navigation without a phone bill!

I bought this for my daughter who is a new driver and me not wanting her on her phone can use this with its audible directions. It has so many attachments to place it. We put it on her vent not obstructing her view and yet easy to see and use if necessary but really as a comfort for her as a new driver not knowing any directions yet.
