Nothing special

I got this phone brand new with the renew every 2 program from Verizon. It replaced an LG vx 4500 that is over 2 years old(And has even been through a wash and rinse cycle in a washer). All bells and whistles aside, the 2 year old VX4500 LG phone is far superior to the VX8300 or any other current phone offered by Verizon for simply making a phone call.(Isn't that why we have cell phones for in the first place?)The Crystal clear sound quality of the earpiece, and its volume are untouchable, especially if there is a lot of ambient noise). The VX8300 excels ever so slightly in the area of reception; mainly when operating on the PCS band. I personally do not like the front display on the newer phones either, because they go blank after the preset time, just so they have the ability to display pictures, and or graphics. Why not have the LCD screen on the inside of the phone, so the front outside panel either shows the time, missed call or message status all the time? Seems much more practical. I have taken the 8300 back, and reactivated the older phone and couldn't be happier. Come on Verizon, lets get back to the basics!!Lire l'avis complet...

DURABLE PHONE

I have the chocolate touch now, but this was a review of my once-owned LG VX8300 phone, it was initially posted on phonescoop.

I give this phone a 3.5 because it was durable. The phone was cool, and I got the new Boulder to replace it (since replaced that as well, and this phone has stood up well.

The phone has been thrown at walls, it even was drowned in a cannoeing tipover and it still works, occasionally the screen would have lines in it and you couldnt see any thing you'd take out the battery and it would still work, despite all of that damage the phone has still worked and the battery is still ok, I have had 3 of these. This was the first one. The second one got thrown and smashed off the side of the phone i mean like the speaker on the side and smashed the screen, oh and it was not me that threw it, it was a grrrrrrrrrrrrr to halo, because my friend threw it, it had also gotten water spilled on it and worked.

third one i barely had for a week and it fell into water, i was emptying the dehimedifere and the phone dropped and the water was down, phone constantly said car kit mode, and i have to switch from it to the lg 3200 and then to the boulder. That last one even after drying didnt work,

The good features were the music buttons and the video camera. good phone.

Works but only for the basics, mediocre battery life, not great for MP3

Got this phone to carry me until my Verizon plan ends and I can switch without paying termination fees. It's a rather simple phone and many things don't work anymore. Anything with "Get It Now" won't work due to Verizon having made changes to the system (and that DOES mean no backup assistant restore of your contacts).

Battery life is ok, a little over a day, nothing to write home about nor to really cry about.

Another beef is that the headphone plug is non-standard 3.5mm so you have to get a special set of headphones to use the MP3 functions.

Basically, it's an old phone that used to be good and that now gets the job done in terms of calling and texting.

New and True

I received my VX8300 on 11/22/06 and after just a couple days of use I already love this phone. This phone is an upgrade from a three year old LG phone (which I had zero problems with). When I got the 8300 I was instantly impressed with its looks, weight, quality and ease of use. For those who don't know, you can preview songs before buying them and download them in less than a minute. The sound quality is outstanding, and there is even a memory card slot so that you can add more memory to hold hundreds of songs. To play your music, just press the play button on the front cover and the music starts. The only knock that I have on the phone is that it seems as though LG has regressed in the battery charging compartment. My old phone had a charging cradle, and with my extra battery I would never be out of commision for more than a few seconds. The 8300 has a small soft rubber plug (that will be prone to being dropped and lost) that you must remove in order to connect the charging cable. Should this prevent anyone from buying this outstanding phone, I think not. LG makes very good products and this one is no exception.Lire l'avis complet...

LG VX8300

I decided to get this phone because it uses the same charger as all the other older LG model phones had. And ive had those models.

What i really love about this phone is that its extremely strong. I have gone through a lot of phones because of breaking them and my last phone was strong but it was huge! I love how the VX8300 is very small and very strong

I also love the simple design, no fancy swirly touch pad buttons. everything is well placed and easy to press. Which i love because when texting the number pad is lifted and its great because you don't hit other buttons when you didn't mean to,

The camera is fair, nothing special. But its a freaking phone, i wouldn't rely on any phone to take nice pics. But this one takes pretty decent photos, and it has a lot of the dumb little special effects you can add on if you'd like.

This phone is perfect for me, i really couldn't pick out anything bad from it because its all i need. The only thing would be the athena and how it sticks out far from the phone. but thats such a minimal problem.

But ya, i like the phone because i dont need internet, or fancy applications. I just need a phone that calls and texts... And the VX8300 is that perfect phone

Cute and Sturdy

I just purchased this used little phone and am LOVING it. Its sturdy and well built. It comes with every little item you will need in a basic cell phone; a camera, memory card port and the ability to download ringtones etc. It has the capability of going online if you want that as well. I was flipping through the different options that this phone has and was impressed. The only thing I can see that a person wouldn't be thrilled with is a qwerty keyboard, while I would love it, I can deal without it. This phone is easy to use and just the right size. I recommend it to anyone that doesnt mind doing without the keyboard.Lire l'avis complet...

I liked the VX8300. Sturdy, easy to use, good value.

I love the LG VX8300. I now have a Samsung Intensity II, and I miss the 8300. I lent it to a friend when I bought the Intensity, but I plan to change back when my friend is done with the 8300. Here are the things I like about it:

o it has worked reliably for over 5 years
o the keypad has large keys
o the organization of commands is simple and sensible
o it requires fewer keystrokes to execute the commands I use most
o I find the qwerty keypad on the Intensity too tiny and clumsy to hold although it is a typical querty pull-out keyboard; T9 was just fine for me
o I mainly text and make calls -- the other features just get in the way and make the menus more complicated
o To the extent that I use the other features, e.g. calendar, notepad, camera, voice recording, I find them just as good and easier to use than on my Intensity
o My Intensity occasionally makes calls even when I had locked it; that never happened with the 8300
o The 8300 had better reception and voice recognition

Potential negatives:
o It's not a smart phone. That is fine with me. I don't want the expense of a data line, and I am happy using a laptop or other computers to which I have easy access
o Thus it won't give you directions. I use a GPS device in my car instead. The readout is bigger and there's no data line fee.
o People can understand me better over the Intensity's speaker phone
o Typing numbers is easier on the Intensity
o The Intensity has a stopwatch
o The Intensity has more ringtones, although I liked the ringtones on the 8300 more -- simpler rings, not music.
o The intensity comes with games, which I don't use but my daughter enjoys.

Watch out if you buy a VX8300 to be sure access to the media center has not been turned off. Verizon does that if the media center has not been used for a while. Without, you cannot transfer you contacts.

LG VX8300 Almost the best

I would first like to state I love this phone, but there are a few things about it that I would love to see changed. Lets start with the good aspects - I get great reception, I love the mp3 player function, I love the camera, I love the color options (although the skins can be slower to load each page), and I love the GPS navigation feature.

Now the dislikes - the battery seems to get hot when talking on the phone or charging. Exchanged it for a new one, and still have the same problem. At that point talk time is shot and the battery drains quickly. Does anyone else have that problem?

Sometimes if I go to fast through the menus, or I am texting someone and it rings the phone gets confused and turns off, then back on. One again I was told that had been fixed. Mine has not been fixed after and exchange.

Other than those two things I highly recommend this phone. The extra micro SD storage card has saved me many times, although it would be nice if they included it in the package. The speakers sound pretty good for a phone, and the flash on the camera needs some work, but for better photos just bring your digital camera.

I would highly recommend this phone to anyone, and hope the battery problem is not a huge issue for anyone. This phone is great, and it should be getting cheaper as the newer phones come out.

Enjoy this phone it is really cool!

Lives up to LG's Standards and Quality

This Phone is the perfect combination of Substance, Size, Stlye, Easy of use. The phone has just about anything you could ask for from a phone. The Audio Player is setup to use WMA files syncronized through Windows Media Play with the puchase of a Music Essentials Kit. You can get around this by enabling the MP3 Player function in the service menu and reassign the front buttons to activate it instead of the Audio Player. You retain all the VZW Media Player functionality in doing this. The phone has great battery life and can get you through a day of high volume calling using the bluetooth headset and a little music listening aswell.

As with most LG phones the vibrate function almost defeats the purpose by causing almost as much noise as the ringer. The upside to this, is that you know you will feel it almost eveytime. The Ringer is loud and clear, notifying you of a call effectively. The internal memory of the phone is about 35 megabytes giving you room to store your ringers, pictures, and videos. It also has the added functionality of a MicroSD Slot allowing increased capacity for songs, pictures, and videos.

The Reciever sensitivity is less than I expected on this phone but it will still do the job, just not in the remote locations that some may visit were network coverage is spotty.

With the added feature of EV-DO, this phone is offically a V-Cast Phone, allowing you to enjoy mobile content on the go anywhere within the V-Cast coverage area. This can greatly enhance the enjoyability of the phone. Overall I give this phone a 4 out of 5 simply because I find Motorola Phones to be superior to other phones. I am reviewing this phone because I have owned it for about 4 weeks but then returned to my Motorola E815 simply because it will work in the places that I need it to.

A great phone for the kids or anyone looking for an inexpensive multimedia enabled phone.

If you have any questions please feel free to ask and I will assist you to the best of my ability.

Excellent Phone

In my opinion, this is the perfect phone for someone wanting their phone and MP3s together. I love this phone! T

he microSD card is perfect! The fact that more memory can be added at your leisure is invaluable, plus it makes carrying your favorite music and pictures simple and fun. I put the microSD card in my camera, take great pictures and even videos, then switch it back to my phone so I can upload the graphics for wallpapers and startup videos. Graphic are very sharp on the inner screen, but the outer screen could have been made a little better.

The external speakers are very crisp and clear, but they do distort just a bit if turned all the way up. The distortion is not very noticeable, though. I use my phone at the pool and people comment on how loud and clear the music is. Someone across the pool from me actually sang along to a song once. I walked over to see how audible it was and I was very impressed!

Phone calls are clear and better than all of the other phones I've ever used. The color of the phone (gunmetal grey) is sleek and stylish while still being professional. Overall, I give it a 5/5.
