Sony Handycam CCD TRV318

I bought this camera to convert my 8mm tapes to DVD. It does an adequate job but I started getting an error message and the tape would hang. We tried everything from blowing it out to using a vacuum in case something was impairing the tape. I finally went online to search for help. I found a site that said give it a good bang. Several people said this worked and sure enough it worked for me too. The error message disappeared and the tape is moving flawlessly.
The other disappointment is that my old camera had stereo sound and this one is monaural, so I've had to bump up the sound using my editor (Pinnacle) to be able to hear the sound unless it is really loud. I didn't get a manual with it but there is one available online at no charge.
I've only used it once to tape. It seemed fairly easy to operate but like any equipment new to you there is a learning curve to learn the features and be able to utilize them easily.Lire l'avis complet...

Good Camera for low light shooting

I ordered this camera for my Ghost Hunting hobbie to shoot in low light. While it does work for that, the first time I used it it kept shutting off and the batteries went dead within a half hour or so. Could it be paranormal? Now I have to test it at home to see if that really was the problem or not. Also, I would like to be able to convert my 8mm tapes onto a memory stick or my computer as the manual says that is not possible. Anyone can help me out? I love this Sony Handycam!

This has been one of the best cameras I've ever used. Its very simple, it has all the features I use like zoom, back light, night vision and the battery on it lasts as long as the film. Also the rewind and playback are great and the sound is real clear when you do playback. My son had one similar that I had gotten him and I liked his so much that I got one for myself. I would recommend this camera to anyone and since I've told my mother how easy it is to use, she wants to get one for herself. And the price was very reasonable. Good Ghost Investigation Camcorder. Good battery life. Good picture.

I purchased this camcorder for paranormal investigations and to play back on the TV my old 8mm cassette videos I had from the 90's since the original 8mm Samsung camcorder died. The night vision works well but with an external infrared light mounted to the camera made it work very well with good quality for distant shots. An external infrared light is inexpensive and worth it. I was lucky to use this camcorder for a ghost investigation at Miss Carolines Bed and Breakfast in St Augustine FL. It worked fantastic. I purchased this on eBay and got one that was in mint condition, I was so excited.
It is however standard definition and mono audio. I have not tried to upload to PC yet but I'm sure there is an adapter to convert RCA to USB or serial. It may be or not possible to upload to PC.Lire l'avis complet...

Great camera!

I’m very happy for this purchase. The camera works great, is light weight and
very good in low light areas. Battery lasts almost two hours and maybe I consider upgrade with longer life battery.

Good Hi8 Replacement

The camera was purchased to replace a Sony CCD-SC55 Hi8 Handycam where the tape mechanism had stopped working. The repair estimate was $300 so I searched for a reasonable replacement that I could use to transfer family tapes to DVD. The TRV-318 appears to have been a good choice. The optical zoom is twice that of the SC55 and the camera takes infrared movies in the dark. The viewfinder is B&W and the color LCD screen is not of the detail of later cameras but acceptable. I bought this product to replace the one I had before which had dropped and stopped working. It is the exact product so I bought it so that I could watch those old tapes from my previous sony hi 8 camera. The problem with this replacement one is that you have to hit it many times with the palm of your hand in order for it to play tapes. Sony Handycam CCD TRV318 Bad News

I bought the Sony Handycam camcorder initially to be able to turn all of my old 8mm videos to DVD. I read the entire page when I ordered it and everything stated that the camcorder would be in proper working order. I did not expect to get the charger cord, nor did I expect to get any of the other accessories. What I did expect was for the camcorder itself to function. Sadly, while there is sound in player mode, the video screen and the eyepiece show no pictures and none of the lights work at all. Even the sound that did come out occasionally quieted to static.
