It appears to be painted black in the photo. Thankfully it was an item that could be abused. One end of the accelerator assembly was sticking out of a torn hole in the side of the shipping box and the other end of the box was crushed inward significantly. UPS certainly wasn't too careful during transport, but it wasn't damaged so no harm no foul. You might want to tape packing around it inside the box.
